Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 940 ÷ 1250 = 75%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted, and neither are Tenacity (no basic item sells this stat alone).

Mercury’s Treads are 1,250 gold boots in League of Legends built to shorten crowd control: 30% Tenacity, 20 Magic Resist and 45 Move Speed in patch 26.21. There’s no passive. The Tenacity cuts the duration of stuns, slows, roots and similar effects, which is why they’re the usual pick against crowd-control-heavy teams.

What does Tenacity actually do?

It shortens most crowd control on you by a percentage. With 30%, a stun that would normally last two seconds wears off noticeably sooner, and the same goes for roots, slows, fears, taunts and silences.

Not everything is affected (knock-ups and suppression ignore Tenacity), but most of the crowd control in a typical team comp is. Over a whole teamfight, those shaved fractions of a second add up to a lot more time spent moving and casting. Ever been chain-stunned from full Health to dead without pressing a button? That’s the scenario these boots exist for.

The Magic Resist is the second half. Most heavy crowd control comes from mages and AP supports, so the 20 points line up with the same threat the Tenacity answers. A mage who lands a stun and follows with a full combo is the classic case: with these boots you take less of the combo’s damage and you’re free to move or cast again sooner, so the follow-up from their teammates has less time to arrive (and a fraction of a second is often what separates a Flash from a death). On a tank, that extra time also means you start your own crowd control earlier in the exchange.

No passive, no active.

Are Mercury’s Treads gold efficient?

On the standard formula, 75%. Only Magic Resist and Move Speed get priced: 20 Magic Resist at 20 gold per point is 400 gold, and 45 Move Speed at 12 gold per point is 540, against a 1,250 gold price.

Tenacity has no basic item, so it’s left out entirely. Honestly, it’s the main stat here, which makes the efficiency number close to meaningless for these boots.

How do you build them?

Boots (300 gold) plus a Null-Magic Mantle (400 gold), then 550 gold. Mantle first if the enemy mid laner is already bullying you with magic damage; Boots first if you need to roam.

Later they upgrade into Chainlaced Crushers: 25 Magic Resist, the same Tenacity and speed, plus Noxian Persistence, a magic shield for 5 seconds after you take magic damage from a champion.

What changed in recent patches?

Riot’s data has the boots from 2013. The recent changes were all about price:

  • Patch 14.15: cost 1,100 → 1,200 gold, Magic Resist 25 → 20.
  • Patch 14.19: cost 1,200 → 1,300 gold.
  • Patch 25.04: cost 1,300 → 1,250 gold.

So they got pricier and lost a little Magic Resist in 2024, then got a small discount in 2025. To be fair, even at 1,250 gold, they’re the most expensive standard boots (tied only with their own upgrade), because against the right team the Tenacity is worth the extra gold.

Who should buy Mercury’s Treads?

Almost anyone facing a team with lots of crowd control, especially if much of it comes from mages. Fighters and tanks who charge into the enemy team benefit most, since they eat the most stuns.

When are other boots better? Against heavy auto-attack damage, Plated Steelcaps do more. Marksmen often still prefer Attack Speed boots unless the crowd control is extreme. Look, it comes down to counting stuns: if the enemy has three or more reliable ones, Mercury’s Treads are usually the right pair.
