Lulu Counters: Who Beats Lulu
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch.
Lulu counters are supports who engage through her tricks instead of around them. She’s a 550-range enchanter with a heavy slow, a polymorph that turns an enemy into a critter who can’t attack or cast, a shield that sends Pix to follow an ally, and an ultimate that enlarges a teammate and knocks up everyone nearby, so crowd control immunity, shield removal and hooks beat her.
Five picks, read off her patch 26.21 abilities against theirs. We didn’t open a stat site.

Why is Lulu hard to counter?
- Pix, Faerie Companion (passive): Pix fires homing bolts whenever the champion he follows attacks, and other units can intercept them.
- Glitterlance (Q): Pix and Lulu each fire a bolt that damages and heavily slows everything it hits. Cooldown 7 seconds.
- Whimsy (W): on an ally, Attack Speed and Move Speed for a short time; on an enemy, a polymorph into an adorable critter that can’t attack or cast spells. Cooldown 18.
- Help, Pix! (E): on an ally, Pix jumps to them, shields them and follows them; on an enemy, Pix jumps to them, damages them and grants vision of them. Cooldown 10/9.5/9/8.5/8.
- Wild Growth (R): she enlarges an ally, knocking nearby enemies into the air and granting a large amount of bonus Health, with a slowing aura for the next few seconds. Cooldown 120/100/80.
Lulu doesn’t fight you; she makes the fight stop happening. Dive her carry and Whimsy turns you into a critter who can’t attack or cast, and by the time it wears off, Help, Pix! has shielded the target and Wild Growth has knocked you into the air and handed the carry a large amount of bonus Health. Glitterlance slows heavily, so leaving is slow too. What does she lack? Any damage of her own worth fearing, any mobility, and any answer to crowd control that lands on her instead of her carry, which is honestly the whole plan behind the five supports below.
Which champions are the best Lulu counters?
Morgana
Black Shield (E) absorbs magic damage and disabling effects on an ally until it breaks, and Whimsy’s polymorph is a disabling effect, as is the knock-up from Wild Growth. A shielded carry walks through both (and keeps attacking). Dark Binding (Q) roots a target in place, and Lulu has no mobility to dodge it with, while Tormented Shadow (W) punishes anyone who stands in its circle, more the lower their Health. Soul Shackles (R) chains nearby champions, slows them and then stuns the ones who can’t break away, which catches an enchanter standing next to her carry. Her passive, Soul Siphon, turns the damage she deals into healing. Thing is, Morgana has to choose who gets the Black Shield before Lulu chooses who gets polymorphed. The guessing game is the matchup.
Alistar
Unbreakable Will (R) removes all crowd control effects on Alistar and reduces incoming physical and magical damage for its duration, so the polymorph that was supposed to stop his engage lasts exactly as long as it takes him to press R. Pulverize (Q) is a ground smash that sends nearby enemies into the air. Lulu is always nearby. Headbutt (W) knocks a target back, Trample (E) ignores unit collision and builds to a stun on his next attack, and Triumphant Roar (passive) heals nearby allies once charged. In practice Alistar is the engage Lulu can’t cancel, which makes him the engage she fears most.
Blitzcrank
Static Field (R), activated, removes nearby enemies’ shields, damages them and silences them briefly, and Lulu’s kit is shields: Help, Pix! on the carry, gone, and a silenced Lulu can’t cast the polymorph that would have answered the grab. Rocket Grab (Q) fires his hand to pull a target to him, which from 550 range away is how you take an enchanter out of her carry’s shadow. Power Fist (E) pops the target up for double damage, and Overdrive (W) adds the Move and Attack Speed to arrive. Mana Barrier (passive) shields him when he drops low. Funny enough, the hook doesn’t even have to land on Lulu; a grabbed carry with no Lulu in range is already a dead carry (the grab did the thinking).
Pyke
Ghostwater Dive (W) puts Pyke in Camouflage with significant Move Speed that decays, and a Lulu who can’t see him can’t Whimsy him before he arrives. Bone Skewer (Q) stabs or pulls an enemy toward him, Phantom Undertow (E) dashes and leaves a phantom that stuns champions on its way back, and Death From Below (R) blinks to and executes low-Health enemies, then lets him cast it again. The catch is Wild Growth: the large amount of bonus Health it grants is the one thing that pushes a target back above the execute line, so the kill has to come before the ultimate or after it fades. Gift of the Drowned Ones (passive) regenerates the damage he took while he’s hidden, so a failed dive costs him less than it should (ask any Lulu).
Nautilus
Dredge Line (Q) pulls him and the target together, Staggering Blow (passive) roots the first target he attacks, and Depth Charge (R) sends a shockwave that chases one opponent, knocking up everything in its path and stunning the target when it arrives. That’s three pieces of crowd control aimed at a 550-range enchanter with no dash. Titan’s Wrath (W) shields him and makes his attacks deal damage over time to the target and nearby enemies, and Riptide (E) slows in three rings around him. To be fair, Whimsy still turns him into a critter on the way in, but the Depth Charge already fired doesn’t care what Nautilus is at the moment it lands.
How do you play the lane against Lulu?
- Engage on Lulu, not on her carry. Every tool she has protects someone else; Whimsy cast on an enemy means it isn’t speeding up her ADC.
- Bait the polymorph with the tank. Whimsy is on an 18 second cooldown, and a critter tank is a cheaper loss than a critter assassin.
- Count Wild Growth. It’s 120 seconds at rank 1, and a dive while it’s down is a dive against a carry with normal Health and no knock-up waiting.
- Stand between Pix and the target. Pix’s bolts are homing but other units can intercept them, so a minion or a tank in the line eats the poke.
- Strip the shield first. Help, Pix! is a shield; Blitzcrank’s Static Field or Serpent’s Fang removes it, and a carry without it is the carry Lulu promised to protect.
Which items counter Lulu?
You itemize against what Lulu gives her team, which is shields and a polymorph. Serpent’s Fang is the direct answer to the shields: 55 Attack Damage and 15 Lethality, with Shield Reaver reducing the shields an enemy champion gains after you damage them and cutting the shields already on them. Help, Pix! shields on command and Wild Growth’s bonus Health isn’t a shield, so Serpent’s Fang handles half the kit and the hook handles the other. Against the polymorph: Mercury’s Treads bring 30% Tenacity at 1,250 gold, Quicksilver Sash cleanses crowd control debuffs at 1,300 gold, and the Spell Shield on Banshee’s Veil eats the next enemy ability, which against Lulu is Whimsy more often than not. Her own damage is magic and modest, so Spirit Visage’s 50 Magic Resist and 400 Health is plenty if you want any Magic Resist at all. All of them have a page in our item database, and Infinity Edge is the page for the marksman who’d rather out-damage the shield than remove it.
When is Lulu at her weakest?
With Whimsy on cooldown. For 18 seconds she has no polymorph, which means the engage you start is the engage you finish, and her remaining answers are a shield on a 10 second cooldown at rank 1 and a slow. That’s the window every support on this list waits for, and it opens every time she panics and polymorphs the tank (and it happens a lot).
And when she’s separated from her carry. Help, Pix! shields an ally, Wild Growth enlarges an ally, Whimsy speeds up an ally; a Lulu with no ally in range is a 550-range mage with a slow and a critter button. Where does that happen? Any time her carry dashes forward without her, which is more often than Lulu players would like.
Support still a mystery? Our guide to LoL roles explains the job. Cosmetics are on the Lulu skins page; the Lulu ARAM guide covers the mode where nothing about her changes. Put simply, the best Lulu counters make her choose between protecting her carry and protecting herself. She can’t do both.
FAQ
Who counters Lulu the most?
Supports who engage through the polymorph or strip the shields: Morgana, Alistar, Blitzcrank, Pyke and Nautilus.
Does Morgana counter Lulu?
Yes. Black Shield absorbs disabling effects until it breaks, which covers Whimsy’s polymorph and Wild Growth’s knock-up on whoever she shields, and Dark Binding roots a Lulu with no mobility.
Can you remove Lulu’s shield?
Yes. Blitzcrank’s Static Field removes nearby enemies’ shields when activated, and Serpent’s Fang reduces shields on champions you damage. Wild Growth’s bonus Health isn’t a shield and stays.
Does Quicksilver Sash remove the polymorph?
Yes. Whimsy’s polymorph is a crowd control debuff, and Quicksilver removes all crowd control debuffs except Airborne. It won’t remove the knock-up from Wild Growth.
Is this list based on win rates?
No. We held Lulu’s patch 26.21 ability text up against each pick’s kit and chose from the interactions alone.
