How does the RP to dollar math work?
The thing is, there is no single exchange rate. A lot of sites multiply every amount by one flat number and call it done, which works for a chroma and drifts badly once you convert a few thousand RP, because the price of one point drops as the pack gets bigger. At the $4.99 pack, 1,000 RP works out to $8.68. At the $99.99 pack, the same 1,000 RP costs $7.41.
So the useful question is less “what is RP worth” and more “which packs do I have to buy to get the amount I need”. Put simply, you always pay for whole bundles, and the leftover RP sits in your wallet until the next purchase.

How much are Riot Points in USD for each NA bundle?
These are the six packs the NA client shows when you press Purchase RP. Riot last reworked them in 2022, when the small and middle packs got fewer points or a slightly higher price.

Does the pack size really matter? The largest pack gives about 17% more RP per dollar than the smallest. That sounds small until you add it up over a year: ten $4.99 purchases give you 5,750 RP for $49.90, while one $49.99 pack gives 6,500 RP for practically the same money, and those 750 RP are a full extra skin from the 750 tier.

Epic skins line up almost perfectly with the $10.99 pack (30 RP spare, which is about as tidy as Riot’s store gets). Legendaries are the awkward ones. No single pack fits, and the trap is grabbing the $21.99 pack out of habit when a $10.99 plus a $4.99 pack covers it for six dollars less. For what it’s worth, the Ultimate row surprises people too: two $10.99 packs and one $4.99 pack come out a cent cheaper than the $21.99 plus $4.99 combo, and leave less RP stranded.
If what you actually want is a big skin collection rather than one skin, compare the RP math with the price of accounts that already have rare LoL skins on them.
What about Mythic and gacha skins?
Those don’t follow the table at all. Mythic skins cost Mythic Essence, which comes from event passes, the Mythic shop rotation and other rewards, not straight from an RP pack. The top-tier gacha skins Riot added in 2024 come out of paid rolls, so the dollar figure depends on your luck and on the pity rules of that event, and it can climb into the hundreds. If a guide gives you one exact USD price for a gacha skin, treat it as an estimate.
Do Riot Points cost the same in USD everywhere?
No. Every region has its own price list in local currency, and Riot adjusts those lists separately, so a skin on EUW or BR does not cost the same as on NA once you convert it. What actually matters is how many RP you get for local money, and the store in your own client is the only list that stays current.
Real talk, two things trip people up here. In the EU, the listed price already includes VAT, while in the US, sales tax gets added at checkout depending on your state. And prepaid cards are tied to a region, so a card bought for NA will not redeem on an EUW account (Riot’s support page on prepaid cards spells out the rules).
Moving to another server to chase cheaper RP is not worth it either. A region transfer costs RP of its own, your RP balance stays tied to the account rather than to a currency, and if the account came from a shop, a transfer usually ends the seller’s warranty. If you play on the wrong server for ping reasons, a fresh LoL account on your own server is often the cleaner fix.
How can you spend less on RP?
None of this is a secret, but most players skip it and buy whatever pack the store highlights first.
Buy one larger pack instead of several small ones
If you know you will spend $50 over the next couple of months anyway, buying it as one pack gets you 750 more RP than ten small purchases, and the $99.99 pack is better still at 135 RP per dollar.
Wait for Your Shop and sales
Your Shop appears a few times a year with personal discounts on skins for champions you actually play, and the regular store runs weekly sales on top of that. In practice, if a skin is not urgent, waiting a few weeks for a discount saves more than any bundle trick.
Look at event passes before single skins
Passes cost RP up front, but if you play through the event, the tokens buy skins, chromas and other rewards that would cost way more one by one. The catch is that this only works when you actually finish the missions.
Buy prepaid cards on sale
Gift cards cost the same as the client price most of the time, but stores sometimes discount them during holiday sales. Just make sure the card is for your region.
Can you get Riot Points for free?
A little, yes. Microsoft Rewards lets you exchange points for League gift cards, and streamers and community events give codes away from time to time. Hextech crafting? No RP there, but it does hand out free skin shards, which gets you skins without spending anything.

What can you buy with RP?
Skins are the main reason people buy RP, but the store also sells chromas, champions (you can unlock those with Blue Essence instead), event passes, emotes, ward skins, Hextech keys and chests, and services like a region transfer. None of it changes your stats. Not one item. Your MMR does not care which skin you queue with, so no, RP does not make you better at the game.

Are Riot Points the same as Valorant Points?
