LoL Server Status: How to Check If League Is Down Right Now

Can’t log in, or the client just keeps spinning? Check status.riotgames.com first: pick League of Legends, pick your region, and the page shows whether login, matchmaking or the store have problems on Riot’s side. It takes ten seconds and saves you reinstalling a game that was never broken.

How do you check LoL server status?

Is it just you, or everyone? Every region runs on its own. EUW can be down while NA plays normally, so always check your own region rather than trusting a friend on another server. This is the order that works:

1. Riot’s status page

Go to status.riotgames.com, choose League of Legends and your region. Planned maintenance and known problems show up there. The catch is that the page can lag behind a fresh outage by a while, so a clean page doesn’t prove everything is fine.

2. Downdetector

Downdetector plots player reports over time. A flat line usually means the problem is yours, while a sudden spike from a handful of reports to thousands means Riot. Its map also shows whether reports cluster in your country (handy for regional ISP trouble).

3. Riot Support on X

Riot’s support account on X posts when they are aware of a big issue (usually a short “we’re investigating” message). Not much detail, but it confirms the problem is on their end.

4. Reddit and Discord

Honestly, r/leagueoflegends is often the fastest signal of all. When login breaks for a whole region, a thread with hundreds of “same here” comments appears within minutes.

Why does the LoL server status turn red?

Patch maintenance

League gets a new patch roughly every two weeks, and most patches take the servers offline for a few hours. Riot disables ranked queues a little before the shutdown (so nobody is stuck mid-game), and the launcher usually announces the window in advance. Downtime is scheduled for the quiet early-morning hours of each region, so late-night players run into it most. Bigger season updates can run longer.

Unplanned outages

Hardware fails, a hotfix brings a new bug, or one backend service stops talking to another. No warning, no pattern: one region goes down while the rest are fine, and Riot usually patches it within a few hours. When the problem sits in the Riot Client itself rather than the game servers, League, Valorant and TFT can all fail at once.

Your connection, not Riot’s

Sometimes everything is green and you still can’t connect. That means something between your PC and Riot’s data center is dropping packets: your router, your ISP, or a bad route along the way. A LoL ping test tells you.

LoL server status is green but you can’t play?

If Riot’s page is clean, Downdetector is flat and Reddit is quiet, the problem is almost certainly on your side. Try these in order:

• Restart your router. Unplug the modem and router for 30 seconds (both, not just one). Boring, and it fixes more than anything else here. On WiFi, try a cable too, because packet loss looks exactly like a server problem.
• Flush DNS. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run ipconfig /flushdns, so your PC looks up Riot’s addresses fresh.
• Check your firewall. Both LeagueClient.exe and RiotClientServices.exe must be allowed. Windows updates sometimes reset these rules.
• Check Vanguard. League requires Riot Vanguard, its anti-cheat, and won’t connect without it. Look for the shield icon in the system tray. Some antivirus programs block it, so add an exception or reinstall Vanguard.
• Turn off your VPN. If League works without it, the VPN route was the problem.
• Run the Hextech Repair Tool. Riot’s own tool from its support site repairs broken game files and settings.

Do you lose LP when the server crashes mid-game?

Sometimes. After big outages Riot has cancelled affected games or softened the losses, but that doesn’t happen every time, and small regional blips often count as normal games. If you disconnect, keep the client open and press reconnect for several minutes. A game that died on Riot’s side often disappears from your history on its own.

Which regions does the LoL server status page cover?

All of Riot’s League regions, including NA, EUW, EUNE, OCE, BR, LAN, LAS, TR, RU, KR, JP, the Middle East server and the PBE test server. China runs separately under Tencent and isn’t on Riot’s page. Each region is independent, so an account stays on the server it was made on unless you pay for a transfer (2,600 RP).

The PBE has its own status entry. It goes down far more often than live servers because Riot tests patches there, and a PBE outage doesn’t affect your normal games.

What can you do while League is down?

Real talk, refreshing the client won’t bring it back sooner. Rewatch a recent loss and find the moment it turned, or read the notes for the next patch so changes to your main don’t surprise you. Some players keep an account on a second region for exactly these evenings.
