How to Check Your MMR in Dota 2 (2026)

To check MMR in Dota 2, open the client, click your name in the top-left corner, open the Stats tab, and read the number in the upper right next to your Rank Confidence. That is the only place the exact figure lives. Other people’s MMR is hidden, trackers such as Stratz and Dotabuff only see your profile once Expose Public Match Data is on, and the medal on the loading screen is a label, not the number.

Dota 2 MMR Checker
Enter a Steam ID or profile link. The tool reads your public rank from OpenDota and estimates the MMR range it maps to.
Accepts a Steam32 ID, a Steam64 ID, or a full Steam profile URL. The player's Expose Public Match Data must be on in Dota 2 settings.
How to check your MMR in Dota 2 step by step
Three clicks, no add-ons. The path has not changed since medals arrived in 2017, even though everything underneath it has.
- Open Dota 2 and click your player name in the top-left corner of the main menu.
- Select the Stats tab (it sits between your match history and the other profile tabs).
- Read the MMR figure in the upper-right part of the Stats window. Your Rank Confidence percentage is next to it.
The same screen shows your most-played heroes, win rates and the performance chart, which is worth a glance when the number is going the wrong way. Where does the medal live, then? On the main menu, in the top-left card, and that badge is always visible even when the Stats tab is three clicks away. Keep the two apart (the badge is a medal, the Stats tab is the number).

What the MMR number means in Dota 2
MMR is Matchmaking Rating, the single figure Valve’s matchmaker uses to build your lobby. A Herald at 300 is grouped with Heralds, a Divine at 5,000 with Divines, and the medal is a band painted over that number: 770 MMR per medal from Herald to Ancient, 1,000 for Divine, Immortal from 5,620 up. The full table and a converter are in our Dota 2 ranks and MMR guide; this page is about finding and reading the number.
Since patch 7.33 on April 20, 2023, the number comes from a Glicko-based system with a second value, Rank Confidence. Confidence rises as you play and falls while you are away, and it decides how far a result moves you. Valve’s 7.33c notes put a settled player’s swing at “closer to +/-25 MMR”; a returning player with low confidence can see 40 or more either way. Kills, GPM and hero damage are not part of the calculation, only the win or the loss.
Two ratings exist, and you can only read one of them. The visible MMR moves with ranked games alone. Unranked, Turbo and event modes run on a hidden rating that Valve never displays, which is why a fresh calibration can land a long way from where your unranked lobbies felt. Honestly, the hidden number is not worth chasing. The ranked one is what the medal reflects and what this guide checks.
How to see your role-specific MMR adjustments
There is one MMR, but five roles. The Ranked Roles update of March 2020 replaced the old Core and Support ratings with a single rank that carries a handicap for each position: queue your best role and the matchmaker uses your full MMR, queue a weaker one and it drops you into a lower lobby. Valve’s note says you can track your current role adjustments in the Role Queue menu, and when a match is found the game shows the adjusted badge levels it used for each player.
In practice that explains a lot. A hard support main who queues mid once a month gets a softer mid lobby, wins more than they expected, and then wonders why the number barely moved. It moved by the normal amount; the lobby was the thing that changed. Whatever role you play, the result still lands on your real MMR.
Can you check someone else’s MMR in Dota 2?
Not from the client. Open another player’s profile and you get Trophies and Tickets, no Stats tab, because Valve hides the number to cut down on lobby flaming. Their medal and stars appear on the loading screen, and Immortals show a leaderboard position, so you can place a teammate within a band of roughly 150 MMR, give or take a star for Rank Confidence.
The one route around that is their own choice. If a player has switched on Expose Public Match Data, Stratz and Dotabuff can read their match history and estimate a rating from the lobbies they play in. If the setting is off, their page is empty, and no “Dota MMR checker” site can do anything about it, whatever its landing page promises.
Third-party tools to check Dota 2 MMR over time
The Stats tab is a snapshot. It will not tell you that you gained 150 this week or bled 200 over the weekend, and for that you need a tracker outside the client. Three are worth your time.
- Stratz: match-by-match MMR history, hero and role breakdowns, and the dataset behind most rank distribution charts (over 7 million calibrated Season 6 accounts).
- Dotabuff: the oldest of the three, with full match history, hero win rates and an MMR trend line once you sign in with Steam.
- OpenDota: open source, strongest on the deep cuts such as ward maps and teamfight breakdowns.
All three read Valve’s Web API, and all three go blank until you flip one switch: Settings, Options, Advanced Options, tick Expose Public Match Data. That shares match data only, not your Steam details. One gap stays no matter what you enable: since the March 19, 2025 update, Immortal Draft games (any lobby with a player above 8,500 MMR) are kept out of public match history and the API, so the very top of the ladder is invisible to every tracker.
Why your Dota 2 MMR check shows nothing
Three causes cover almost every case. Thing is, none of them is a bug. Ranked is still locked: you need 100 hours of play on the account and a phone number linked to Steam before the Stats tab has anything to show, and a number that leaves one account cannot count on another for three months (Valve set both rules in September 2019 to slow down smurfs). Calibration is not finished: Valve ties the end of calibration to Rank Confidence rather than a fixed count, though it works out to roughly ten matches. Or you are reading the badge instead of the number, which we covered above.
Long breaks do something else. The medal stays, the MMR stays, but Rank Confidence sinks, so the first games back swing hard and the profile can look off until a handful of matches rebuild it. That is not decay, even though it feels like it. And if the Stats tab shows nothing at all right after a client update, restart Dota 2 before you assume anything is wrong.
Calibration, recalibration and your first MMR
A new account has no MMR until the calibration run ends. Funny enough, that run is the only time your result history matters more than usual, because the system is building confidence from nothing, and a 7-3 start lands you a few hundred points above a 3-7 start. After that it is business as usual: win, gain; lose, drop; let the confidence settle.
Recalibration is a button, Settings, Account, MMR Recalibration, and it exists for people who come back after a long absence and feel the number is wrong. Valve fixed the button in patch 7.39b in May 2025, so it works, but there is no confirmation prompt and the cooldown is long, so do not click it to see what happens. Real talk, if you play every week your confidence is already high and recalibration changes little; it is a tool for returning players, not a shortcut.
Immortal: where the number turns into a leaderboard
At 5,620 MMR the stars stop. Valve’s leaderboards on dota2.com list about 5,000 players for each of four regions (Americas, Europe, Southeast Asia, China) and refresh roughly every hour, and a numbered rank shows on your medal only while you are inside that list. Above 8,500 the rules change again: Immortal Draft becomes mandatory, parties cannot queue ranked, an official name is required, and the matches are private. Yatoro was the first player past 16,000 in late October 2024, which makes the distance from a fresh Immortal to the top of Europe about twice the distance from Herald 1 to Immortal.
How to read the number once you have it
Most people who search for “check MMR Dota 2” want the number and then a verdict on it, so use the medal table to turn MMR into a star, then use percentiles to see what it means. Is 3,100 good? The October 2026 Stratz dataset puts the median at Archon 1, Legend 1 at the 67th percentile and Ancient 1 at the 82nd, to be fair, yes: a 3,100 player is already in the top third of ranked accounts. Sure, the number only moves with wins, but the catch is that it moves about 25 at a time, which means one medal is roughly 31 net wins and nobody climbs it in a weekend.
If you grind more than one game, note that Dota is the honest one. League shows LP and hides the rating (our LoL MMR checker estimates it from the numbers that are public), and Valorant caps what it displays, while Dota prints the matchmaker’s own figure on your profile. More Dota 2 guides, including ranks and distribution, live in our Dota 2 section, and accounts we have in stock are on the Dota 2 accounts page. To check MMR in Dota 2 tomorrow, the path is still the same: name, Stats, upper right.
FAQ
How do I check my MMR in Dota 2?
Click your name in the top-left corner of the main menu, open the Stats tab, and read the MMR in the upper right. Your Rank Confidence is shown next to it.
Can I check another player’s MMR in Dota 2?
No. Valve hides other players’ Stats tabs. You can see their medal on the loading screen, and if they have enabled Expose Public Match Data, Stratz or Dotabuff can estimate their rating from match history.
What separates MMR from the medal on my profile?
MMR is the raw number the matchmaker uses. The medal is a band laid over it, 770 MMR wide from Herald to Ancient and 1,000 for Divine, and it can lag the number because Rank Confidence also counts.
How much MMR do you gain per game in Dota 2?
Valve’s 7.33c notes put a settled player’s swing at about plus or minus 25 MMR. Low Rank Confidence, after calibration or a long break, makes the swings larger.
Why is my Dota 2 MMR not showing?
Ranked is not unlocked yet (100 hours of play plus a linked phone number), calibration is not finished, or you are looking at the medal on the main menu instead of the Stats tab.
How do I make Dotabuff or Stratz show my MMR?
In Dota 2 open Settings, then Options, then Advanced Options, and tick Expose Public Match Data. Trackers read Valve’s Web API and see nothing until that setting is on.
Does Dota 2 MMR decay when you stop playing?
No. The number and the medal stay. Rank Confidence falls while you are away, so your first games back move the MMR by more than usual until it rebuilds.
