How does ranked work on a fresh Valorant account?
Thing is, account level and rank are two different things. Level comes from playing anything at all and only decides when Competitive opens, at level 20. Rank comes from your Competitive matches, starting with placements that set where you begin.
On a fresh account those first matches swing more than they do later, because the game is still figuring out where you belong (that is also why smurfs climb quickly at first).
