Valorant Server Status: How to Check If Servers Are Down

Valorant won’t load, or matches keep dropping? Check status.riotgames.com before anything else. Pick Valorant and your region, and the page shows whether Riot has maintenance or a known problem running. Clean page? Then it is probably your router, WiFi, DNS, VPN or Vanguard, and the fixes further down cover all five.

Valorant server status: how to check if Valorant is down

How do you check if Valorant servers are down?

Four places, in this order, and together they take about a minute if you go straight down the list without stopping to troubleshoot your PC first.

1. Riot’s service status page

Go to status.riotgames.com, choose Valorant and your region. An active problem shows up as a notice (login, matchmaking or store) with what broke and when. The catch is that the page isn’t instant, and small regional issues can take a while to appear, so if the game feels broken and the page is green, wait a few minutes and refresh.

2. Downdetector

Players report problems there the moment they can’t log in, and the site graphs reports per hour. A flat line means business as usual. A sudden spike means something broke for a lot of people at once, and the outage map shows where.

3. Riot on X and Reddit

Riot’s Valorant and support accounts on X post when they know about an outage. Searching “Valorant down” on X or opening r/VALORANT works too: thousands of complaints at the same moment means it is not just you.

4. The Riot Client itself

If the client opens but the game won’t, look near the Play button. Riot shows maintenance banners there.

What turns the Valorant server status red?

Riot schedules some of it, and the rest just hits you.

  • Patch maintenance. Valorant patches roughly every two weeks, and Riot announces the maintenance window ahead of time on its status page and social channels. Each region gets its own window, usually at a quiet hour for that region.
  • New acts and big releases. Larger updates mean longer maintenance, and new agents or events often bring slow queues for the first hours afterwards because everyone logs in at once.
  • Unplanned outages. A crash or a backend problem can hit one region without warning. Most get fixed fairly quickly.
  • Your own connection. Router, provider or routing problems look exactly like a server issue from your chair.

Put simply, don’t queue ranked right before a scheduled patch. Losing RR to maintenance announced a day earlier is the worst kind of loss.

What if the Valorant server status confirms an outage?

Wait. There is no fix on your side for Riot’s servers being offline. For planned maintenance, Riot posts when it expects to be back. Random outage? Keep status.riotgames.com open and refresh every few minutes.

While you wait, check the Valorant tier list for your next pick, or see how busy the game is on our Valorant player count page.

Valorant server status is green but you can’t connect?

This is worse than real downtime: friends are playing, Riot’s page is green, and you are stuck on a spinning circle. Real talk, it is almost always fixable. Work through this list in order:

  1. Restart everything as administrator. End the Riot Client and Valorant in Task Manager, then relaunch with “Run as administrator”.
  2. Power-cycle your router. Unplug it for 30 seconds. Basic, and it works more often than it should.
  3. Use a cable. WiFi packet loss feels exactly like a server problem, and Ethernet removes it.
  4. Change DNS. Set your DNS to a public resolver such as Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), then run ipconfig /flushdns in an administrator Command Prompt.
  5. Turn off your VPN. VPN routing often causes timeouts with Riot’s servers.
  6. Check your firewall. Windows updates can reset exceptions, so make sure Valorant and Vanguard are allowed.
  7. Reinstall Vanguard. If nothing else works, uninstall Riot Vanguard, reboot and launch Valorant, which installs it again.

If the game shows an error code, look it up in our Valorant error codes guide. Some codes point to Riot’s side, where waiting is the only fix, while others (Vanguard errors in particular) point to your PC.

Valorant server status is fine but your ping is bad?

A green status page and laggy games means the problem is the route between you and the server. In a game where one peek decides a round, 20 to 30 ms extra hurts.

Ping How it feels
Under 30 ms Shots land the moment you click
30 to 60 ms Solid, you rarely notice it
60 to 100 ms You feel it on peeks and close duels
Over 100 ms Rough: delayed shots and enemies that seem to jump

Valorant normally picks the server with the lowest ping for you, and you can choose servers manually in the play menu. Over 60 ms even to the nearest server? Go back to the cable and DNS fixes above, because at that point it is almost never the server and almost always something on your network.

Does the Valorant server status differ on PS5 and Xbox?

No. Console Valorant runs on the same servers as PC. When PC goes down for maintenance, consoles go down too, with the same timing. Console players are matched with other console players (not with PC), but the status page and the network fixes are the same.

How can you avoid connection problems in the first place?

Plug into Ethernet, set a decent public DNS, update your network drivers once in a while, and kill VPNs and heavy downloads before you queue. For what it’s worth, those four habits fix most of the “random” disconnects players blame on Riot. If you also play League, our LoL server status page covers the same checks for League. And when something feels off, check the Valorant server status first, which saves you an hour of troubleshooting something that turns out to be on Riot’s end.

FAQ

How do I check if Valorant is down?

Open status.riotgames.com, select Valorant and your region. For a second opinion, check Downdetector or search “Valorant down” on X.

Why can’t I connect to Valorant when the servers are up?

Usually a local problem: router, WiFi, DNS, VPN, firewall or Vanguard. Restart as administrator, power-cycle the router and switch to a cable first.

How long does Valorant maintenance take?

Usually a few hours for a normal patch, longer for big updates. Riot posts the window in advance.

Do PS5 and Xbox use different Valorant servers?

No. Consoles use the same servers as PC, so maintenance and outages hit both at the same time.

Is Downdetector reliable for Valorant?

A sharp spike almost always means a real outage. A flat line doesn’t guarantee everything works, so cross-check with Riot’s status page.

Can I play Valorant offline?

No. Every mode needs a connection to Riot’s servers, including the Range.
