Lillia Counters: Who Beats Lillia

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch.

Lillia counters are junglers who catch her before Blooming Blows stacks its Move Speed and hold her still once they have. She’s a 325-range fighter-mage built around hitting spells and running away, with a slowing seed and a sleep ultimate, so hard crowd control, a gap closer or a spell shield gives her the most trouble.

These five picks come from reading the kits side by side in patch 26.21, not from a stat site. Each reason names the ability that does the work.

Why is Lillia hard to counter?

  • Dream-Laden Bough (passive): hitting a champion or monster with a skill deals additional max Health damage over time.
  • Blooming Blows (Q): passively, she gains stacking Move Speed when her spells hit enemies. The active deals magic damage to nearby enemies, with extra true damage on the edge. Cooldown 6/5.5/5/4.5/4 seconds.
  • Watch Out! Eep! (W): damage in a nearby area, heavy in the center. Cooldown 14/13/12/11/10.
  • Swirlseed (E): she hurls a seed that damages and slows whatever it lands on, and if it hits nothing it keeps rolling until it meets a wall or a target. Cooldown 12.
  • Lilting Lullaby (R): every enemy carrying Dream Dust becomes Drowsy, then falls asleep, and takes extra damage when forcibly woken. Cooldown 150/130/110.

Lillia wins by never standing still. Every spell that connects feeds Blooming Blows more Move Speed, the passive keeps burning max Health after she’s already gone, and the Q cooldown drops to 4 seconds by rank 5, so a Lillia who lands her spells is simply faster than you. Then the lullaby arrives. Anyone she has tagged recently goes Drowsy, falls asleep, and her team gets a free opening on sleeping targets (that’s the part that decides team fights). And what doesn’t she have? A dash, a shield, or any way to stop crowd control, which is where all five picks below come in.

Which champions are the best Lillia counters?

Jarvan IV

Cataclysm (R) is the answer to a champion who kites: Jarvan leaps at a target and raises an arena around them (walls and all), and a Lillia inside it has nowhere to stack Move Speed toward. Dragon Strike (Q) pulls him to his Demacian Standard and knocks up everyone in the path, which is a second lock on top of the first. Golden Aegis (W) shields him and slows the enemies around him. Short range, long reach.

Xin Zhao

Audacious Charge (E) closes the gap and slows everyone it reaches, and Three Talon Strike (Q) knocks her into the air on the third hit. Thing is, the real counter is Crescent Guard (R). It knocks back any target he hasn’t Challenged and makes him impervious to damage from champions outside the circle it creates, so a Lillia circling at the edge of her Q range does nothing to him at all. Wind Becomes Lightning (W) marks her as Challenged, and Audacious Charge gains range against Challenged targets. Every third attack also heals him, which blunts the passive’s slow burn.

Nocturne

Shroud of Darkness (W) creates a barrier that blocks a single enemy ability. Timed on Swirlseed, that’s the slow gone; timed on Lilting Lullaby, that’s a sleep he never takes. Nocturne attacks from 125 range, so he needs a way in, and Paranoia (R) is exactly that: it removes the enemy team’s vision and launches him at a champion, erasing whatever distance Lillia has built. Unspeakable Horror (E) then fears her if she can’t get out of range by the end of its duration. A feared Lillia isn’t stacking anything. Funny enough, she’s the one who ends up running in the wrong direction.

Warwick

Blood Hunt (W) gives Warwick Move Speed toward enemies below 50% Health and attack speed against them, and when they drop under 25% those bonuses triple. Lillia’s whole plan is to be the faster one. Against a frenzied Warwick? She isn’t. Infinite Duress (R) leaps in a direction and suppresses the first champion it hits for 1.5 seconds, Jaws of the Beast (Q) heals him for the damage it deals, and Primal Howl (E) reduces the damage he takes for 2.5 seconds, then makes nearby enemies flee for 1 second. Once he’s below half Health, Eternal Hunger heals him for the bonus damage on every basic attack, which is honestly a bit unfair to someone whose plan was a slow burn.

Elise

Cocoon (E) stuns the first enemy it hits from 550 range, before Lillia has landed a single spell and started stacking Move Speed. A stunned Lillia with no dash is an easy Rappel target, and in Spider Form her bonus damage and healing from Spider Queen go up after she drops onto someone. Neurotoxin (Q) deals damage based on how high the target’s Health is, so a Lillia who builds Health to survive the jungle is feeding it. The catch is that Cocoon has to land. Miss it and the spider is just another jungler she can outrun.

How do you play the jungle against Lillia?

  • Fight her early, in her jungle. Her Q cooldown falls from 6 seconds to 4 as it ranks up, so the window is before that.
  • Don’t chase. Blooming Blows gives her Move Speed every time a spell connects, and chasing feeds it.
  • Dodge the seed. Swirlseed is her only slow and it rolls until it hits a wall or a target, so sidestep rather than back off in a straight line.
  • When you turn Drowsy, use your gap closer or crowd control right then. Once you’re asleep, you can’t.
  • Peel for the sleeper. Enemies take extra damage when forcibly woken, so a sleeping teammate is where her team’s burst is about to go.

Which items counter Lillia?

Her damage is mostly magic, and her passive keeps burning after she leaves, so Magic Resist with Health is the first purchase. Spirit Visage gives 400 Health, 50 Magic Resist and 10 Ability Haste, and its Boundless Vitality increases heals and shields on you by 25%, which suits junglers who already heal. Force of Nature’s Steadfast grants 70 Magic Resist and 6% bonus Move Speed after taking magic damage from champions 8 times, and against a champion who hits you with a spell every few seconds those 8 stacks arrive fast. Kaenic Rookern carries 400 Health and 80 Magic Resist, though its Magebane shield only returns after 15 seconds without magic damage, which her passive makes rare. For the lullaby itself: Banshee’s Veil and Edge of Night block the next enemy ability with a Spell Shield, Mercury’s Treads add 30% Tenacity, and Quicksilver Sash removes crowd control debuffs for 1300 gold (the cheapest way out of a nap we know of). Every one of them is in our item database, and tanks who plan to stand in her W can compare Sunfire Aegis there too.

When is Lillia at her weakest?

Before her first spell lands. Blooming Blows gives Move Speed only when spells hit, so a Lillia who has just walked into a fight is at her base speed, with 325 range and no dash. That is the moment to engage Lillia, and in practice it’s the only moment where a slow jungler gets to choose the fight.

The second window is after Lilting Lullaby. At rank 1 the ultimate is on a 150 second cooldown (two and a half minutes), and without it her crowd control is one slowing seed every 12 seconds. Did she waste the ultimate on one target? Then she’s a kiting mage whose next real threat is 150 seconds away.

If you’re still working out where a jungler like her fits, our guide to LoL roles goes through each position. Her cosmetics are on the Lillia skins page, and for the one-lane version of this matchup there’s the Lillia ARAM guide. To be fair, the best Lillia counters all do the same thing: they stop her moving, and a Lillia who can’t move is just a target that used to be fast.

FAQ

Who counters Lillia the most?

Junglers with hard crowd control and a gap closer: Jarvan IV, Xin Zhao, Nocturne, Warwick and Elise.

Does a spell shield block Lillia’s ultimate?

Yes. Banshee’s Veil, Edge of Night and Nocturne’s Shroud of Darkness each block the next enemy ability, which can be Lilting Lullaby or Swirlseed.

Does Lillia have a dash?

No. Her mobility comes from Blooming Blows, which grants stacking Move Speed when her spells hit enemies. She has no dash, blink or shield.

Does Quicksilver Sash counter Lillia?

It removes crowd control debuffs except Airborne, so it can end the sleep from Lilting Lullaby. It does nothing about her damage.

Is this list based on win rates?

No. We compared Lillia’s patch 26.21 ability text with each pick’s kit. No win-rate data went into it.
