Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | 400 | 2.67 g | 1067 g |
| Magic Resist | 55 | 20 g | 1100 g |
| Move Speed % | 4 | 75 g | 300 g |
| Total stat value | 2467 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 2467 ÷ 2800 = 88%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted.

Force of Nature is a 2,800 gold Magic Resist tank item in League of Legends: 400 Health, 55 Magic Resist and 4% Move Speed in patch 26.21. Its Steadfast passive adds 70 more Magic Resist and 6% bonus Move Speed once enemy champions have hit you with magic damage enough times.
How does the Steadfast passive work?
It stacks up during a fight. Every time an enemy champion deals magic damage to you, you get closer to the threshold, and after 8 hits the passive switches on: 70 extra Magic Resist and 6% bonus Move Speed on top of the base stats.
That’s a big jump. Fully stacked, the item gives well over double its listed Magic Resist, which is why it feels so tanky against teams with two or three magic damage threats who keep spamming abilities at you. Minion and monster damage doesn’t count, only champions.
So is it worth waiting for? Against a team with three magic damage champions the threshold tends to arrive during the first real exchange, which means that for most of a long fight you’re walking around with the boosted Magic Resist and the extra speed to chase a diver or peel for your carry. Short fights are a different story.
The catch is the ramp. Against one burst mage who dumps a combo and leaves, you might take the whole combo before Steadfast is even online (and that’s exactly when you needed it).
When is Force of Nature the right buy?
When the enemy team leans on sustained magic damage. Poke mages, champions with damage over time and fighters who weave lots of small magic hits stack it fast, so the passive is up for most of the fight, and against champions like that you’d struggle to get the same value from any single Magic Resist item that doesn’t stack. Long story short, it’s a frontline answer to an Ability Power heavy enemy team.
Against one or two big magic bursts, the order of items matters more. Look at Spirit Visage if your champion heals and shields itself, or Kaenic Rookern for a shield that blocks magic damage up front. Does the enemy have mostly physical damage? Then this item is the wrong slot entirely.
Is it gold efficient?
Not on paper: 88%, or 2,467 gold of stats for 2,800 gold. Honestly, that number is misleading.
The split is 400 Health at 1,067 gold, 55 Magic Resist at 1,100 gold (20 gold per point), and 4% Move Speed at 300 gold. Count the 70 Magic Resist from Steadfast at the same rate and the item is well past even, though only in fights where the passive stacks. The Move Speed is easy to forget, yet it’s the stat that gets a slow tank to the backline in time.
What does it build from?
Negatron Cloak (850 gold), Ruby Crystal (400) and Winged Moonplate (800), plus 750 gold to finish. Negatron Cloak is the early buy against a lane opponent with magic damage. Winged Moonplate brings Health and Move Speed, which already helps with roaming. Ruby Crystal is the filler for a short back, when you only have a few hundred gold and still want some Health for the next wave. It doesn’t build into anything.
How has Force of Nature changed?
It appears in Riot’s data from patch 8.16, and its Magic Resist number has moved more than anything else:
- Patch 10.23: Magic Resist 90 → 60.
- Patch 11.23: Magic Resist 60 → 70, effect text changed.
- Patch 13.10: cost 2,900 → 2,800 gold, Health 350 → 400, Magic Resist 70 → 60, effect text changed.
- Patch 14.1: Magic Resist 60 → 55.
- Patch 14.19: Move Speed 5% → 4%.
Funny enough, the base Magic Resist is now lower than at any point in that list, while the passive carries more of the load. The table above has it all. Our item database shows how other Magic Resist items moved in the same patches.
Who builds it?
Tanks and bruisers in top lane and jungle, mostly, plus the occasional tank support who sits in front of a mage-heavy team (rare, but it happens). In practice, it’s a second or third item once you know the enemy damage profile. Our guide to LoL roles shows where frontline champions play, and for them Force of Nature is the classic pick against a team full of magic damage.
