Renekton Counters: Who Beats Renekton
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch.
Renekton counters are top laners who ignore or resist his stun, out-range his short engage, or simply outlast his early pressure. He’s a 125-range fighter who builds Fury from attacks, then spends it on an empowered heal, a three-slash stun, or a dash that shreds Armor, with a Tyrant form that adds Health for his ultimate.
Fury thresholds, a short dash and a single heal source shaped the list, all read from his patch 26.21 ability text. There are no win rates behind the list.

Why is Renekton hard to counter?
- Reign of Anger (passive): attacks generate Fury, more when he’s low, and Fury empowers his abilities.
- Cull the Meek (Q): a spin that damages everything around him and heals for a small part of the damage; above 50 Fury, both the damage and the heal grow. Cooldown 7.
- Ruthless Predator (W): two slashes and a 0.75 second stun; above 50 Fury, three slashes, high damage, a 1.5 second stun, and any damage shield on the target destroyed. Cooldown 16/14/12/10/8.
- Slice and Dice (E): a dash that damages units along the way; empowered, it deals bonus damage and reduces Armor. Cooldown 16/14.5/13/11.5/10.
- Dominus (R): the Tyrant form, with bonus Health, damage to nearby enemies and Fury over time. Cooldown 120/100/80.
Renekton’s lane is a short, violent loop. He dashes in with Slice and Dice, stuns with Ruthless Predator, spins with Cull the Meek, and dashes out, and if he has Fury to spend, each of those hits harder and the stun lasts twice as long. That’s a strong early game. Where does it break? The stun is the centerpiece, so anything that ignores or resists it removes the scariest part. His range is only 125. And his healing all comes from Cull the Meek, which Grievous Wounds cuts down.
Which champions are the best Renekton counters?
Olaf
Olaf’s ultimate, once activated, makes him immune to disables for as long as he keeps attacking, which is a long time in a top lane brawl. The empowered Ruthless Predator stun, the whole reason Renekton trades, does nothing to him. Ragnarok also gives passive Armor and Magic Resist, and Renekton’s Q, W and E all deal physical damage. Reckless Swing (E) hits for true damage, which skips Armor completely, and Berserker Rage (passive) adds Attack Speed and Life Steal as Olaf loses Health. Undertow (Q) reduces Armor and Move Speed on enemies it passes through, and catching the axe resets its cooldown. Tough It Out (W) adds Attack Speed and a shield (which empowered Ruthless Predator destroys, so pop it after the stun).
Dr. Mundo
Goes Where He Pleases (passive) resists the first immobilizing effect that hits Mundo, costing him some Health and dropping a canister he can pick up to get it back. A Renekton who opens with his stun just lost it. The passive also gives significantly increased Health regeneration, which outlasts a champion whose damage comes in short bursts. Infected Bonesaw (Q) slows and damages based on current Health, Heart Zapper (W) stores damage taken and heals part of it with a burst, and Maximum Dosage (R) heals a percent of missing Health and regenerates more over time. Honestly, Mundo just keeps standing there.
Quinn
525 attack range against 125. Renekton has to spend Slice and Dice just to reach her. Vault (E) dashes onto him, slows and briefly interrupts, then bounces Quinn back near her maximum Attack Range, so she gets the hit and the distance. Harrier (passive) marks targets for extra physical damage on the next attack, Blinding Assault (Q) blocks vision and hits everyone close, and Heightened Senses (W) gives Attack Speed and Move Speed after hitting a marked target. Behind Enemy Lines (R) lets her fly off when the dash does connect. Quinn makes Renekton’s short range a long problem.
Kennen
Kennen fights from 550 range, and three hits from his abilities stun through Mark of the Storm (passive). Thundering Shuriken (Q) is a fast skillshot, Electrical Surge (W) marks every few attacks and adds another mark on activation, and Lightning Rush (E) turns him into lightning that passes through units, which helps avoid the Slice and Dice angle. Slicing Maelstrom (R) strikes every nearby enemy champion, so if Renekton dashes in with Dominus, he’s standing in the storm. To be fair, a Renekton who lands the empowered stun first still wins the trade, so Kennen has to keep his distance.
Poppy
Slice and Dice is Renekton’s way in and his way out, and Poppy’s Steadfast Presence (W) stops dashes near her while it’s active, slowing and grounding whoever she catches. Without the dash, the combo breaks. After that, her E pins him to a wall for a stun and her ultimate punts him out of the lane entirely (Hammer Shock’s slow zone fills the gaps). Steadfast Presence also adds Armor and Magic Resist passively, more when she’s low, which is when Renekton usually commits. Iron Ambassador (passive) adds a shield, though Ruthless Predator’s empowered version destroys damage shields, so don’t count on it during the stun.
How do you play the lane against Renekton?
- Watch his Fury. Above 50 Fury, Ruthless Predator stuns for 1.5 seconds instead of 0.75 and destroys shields, so trade when he’s below that.
- Count Slice and Dice. It’s his engage and his exit, on a 16 second cooldown at rank 1.
- Don’t stand in Cull the Meek. It hits everything around him and heals him for part of the damage.
- Back off when Dominus comes out. The Tyrant form adds Health, damages nearby enemies and builds Fury over time.
- Scale. His kit is built for early pressure, and a lane that ends even early usually favors his opponent later.
Which items counter Renekton?
Armor, Tenacity and Wounds. Plated Steelcaps give 25 Armor against a champion whose abilities all deal physical damage, while Mercury’s Treads offer 30% Tenacity to shorten the 1.5 second stun, so pick boots based on which hurts more. Bramble Vest applies 40% Wounds when attacks hit you, which reduces Cull the Meek’s healing, and Thornmail is the full version. Randuin’s Omen and Dead Man’s Plate add Armor and Health for tanks. Damage dealers can use Death’s Dance to spread his burst over 3 seconds, or Executioner’s Calling for Wounds of their own. Our items database has every number.
When is Renekton at his weakest?
When he’s below 50 Fury. That threshold doubles his stun, adds a third slash, destroys shields and boosts his heal, and without it his kit is a lot more ordinary. Trade then. Long story short, watch the Fury bar more than his Health bar.
He’s also weaker later in the game. Renekton’s whole kit is built around short, early trades, and tanks with sustain or ranged champions who never let him close the gap make those trades fail. Why does he fall off? Mostly because the opponents he bullied early catch up on items, and his 125 range doesn’t grow (in practice, a Renekton who didn’t get ahead early has a long game ahead of him).
