Randuin’s Omen is a 2,700 gold tank item in League of Legends built against Critical Strike damage: 350 Health and 75 Armor in patch 26.21. Its Resilience passive cuts damage from Critical Strikes by 30%, and the Humility active slows nearby enemies by 70% for 2 seconds.

What does Randuin’s Omen do against crit champions?

It takes the edge off every Critical Strike that lands on you. Resilience is always on, so a marksman with two or three crit items deals 30% less with each crit against you, on top of the large pile of Armor that already reduces physical damage.

That stacking is the point. Armor alone shrinks every auto attack; Resilience then trims the crits further, and crit builds rely on those big hits to kill. Against a team whose damage comes from basic attacks without crit (on-hit builds, Lethality assassins), the passive does nothing, and you’re just buying an Armor item with Health. That’s why it pays to check what the enemy carry actually builds before you commit; our champion guides and counters help with the matchup side, and a marksman who goes on-hit instead of crit turns this item into a weaker pick than it looks on paper.

How does the Humility active work?

Press it and every enemy close to you is slowed by 70% for 2 seconds. That’s a huge slow (most slows in the game are far weaker). It works as a peel button when a fighter jumps onto your carry, as a way to stop a fleeing target after you engage, or simply as a get-off-me tool when you’re the one being chased.

In practice, range is short, so position matters. You have to be in the middle of the enemy, which tanks usually are anyway (that’s the job, after all). The cooldown isn’t listed in Riot’s data text; the in-game tooltip shows it.

Is Randuin’s Omen gold efficient?

Its raw stats cover 90% of the price. They’re worth 2,433 gold against a 2,700 gold cost, and the 267 gold left over pays for the passive and the active.

Broken down with basic item prices from the same patch: 350 Health at 2.67 gold per point comes to 933 gold, and 75 Armor at 20 gold per point comes to 1,500 gold. Is that a good deal? For a tank item with a strong slow and a damage reduction passive, yes, to be fair it’s about normal for the category.

What does it build from?

Two components: Warden’s Mail for 1,000 gold and Giant’s Belt for 900 gold, plus a 800 gold combine. Warden’s Mail is the smart first buy when the enemy marksman is already hurting you, since the Armor shows up early. Nothing builds out of the finished item.

What changed in its patch history?

A lot. The item dates back to 2013 or earlier in Riot’s data, and its Health and Armor have swung back and forth for years. The recent entries that set today’s numbers:

  • Patch 12.22: cost 2,700 → 3,000 gold, Armor 90 → 60, Health 250 → 400, Ability Haste removed.
  • Patch 13.19: cost back down, 3,000 → 2,700 gold.
  • 14.1 trimmed Armor from 60 to 55.
  • Patch 14.10: Armor 55 → 75, Health 400 → 350, effect text rewritten.

Patch 14.10 pushed it firmly toward Armor again. Funny enough, back in patch 12.11 it carried 90 Armor, more than today, but with far less Health. The table above has the whole record. Our LoL items database keeps the same kind of history for every other piece of armor in the shop, components included, so you can compare how often Riot has touched each one.

Who should build Randuin’s Omen?

Tanks and frontline supports facing one or two crit carries, mostly marksmen, or champions like Yasuo and Yone who build crit. Honestly, simple rule.

If the enemy’s main threat scales on Critical Strikes, it’s one of the best answers in the shop, and our guide to LoL roles explains which positions usually end up as the frontline that buys it.

Skip it when the physical damage comes from Lethality or on-hit effects; a plain Armor item with a better passive for that matchup does more. Mages can’t use it well either (no Ability Power, no reason). Not sure what the enemy is building? Look at the enemy marksman’s build after the first two items: if you see crit, Randuin’s Omen belongs in your next back, usually as the second or third defensive item.
