Miss Fortune Counters: Who Beats Miss Fortune

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch.

Miss Fortune counters are bot laners who can dodge, block or interrupt Bullet Time, because the rest of her kit has no escape. She’s a 550 range Marksman with a bouncing bullet, passive Move Speed that drops when she’s hit, a slowing rain of bullets and a channelled cone ultimate, so a dash, a spell shield or a wall of your own turns her biggest spell into a long pause.

The five below were chosen by comparing her abilities with theirs, one kit against another. We checked no statistics.

Why is Miss Fortune hard to counter?

  • Love Tap (passive): bonus physical damage whenever she basic attacks a new target.
  • Double Up (Q): a bullet that damages one enemy and a second target behind them, with Love Tap applying on both. Cooldown 7/6/5/4/3 seconds.
  • Strut (W): passive Move Speed while she isn’t attacked, and an active burst of Attack Speed. Love Taps shorten its remaining cooldown. Cooldown 12.
  • Make It Rain (E): a flurry of bullets that reveals an area and deals waves of damage while slowing. Starts at an 18 second cooldown and ends at 14.
  • Bullet Time (R): a channelled barrage into a cone in front of her, dealing large amounts of damage, and each wave can critically strike. Cooldown 120/110/100.

She punishes bad positioning better than almost any Marksman. Double Up through the minion into the champion standing behind it is free damage every 3 seconds at max rank, Make It Rain slows you into place, and Bullet Time deletes a team standing in a cone. The flip side is simple: Strut is her only mobility, and it’s Move Speed that switches off when she takes a hit, so there is no dash anywhere in the kit. Interrupt the ultimate or step out of the cone and she has spent a 120 second cooldown on nothing. That’s the whole kit.

Which champions are the best Miss Fortune counters?

Sivir

Spell Shield (E) blocks a single enemy ability cast on Sivir and gives her Health and a burst of Move Speed when it does. Double Up every few seconds means she gets to use it often. Boomerang Blade (Q) damages on the way out and back, outranging a Miss Fortune who wants to stand still, and Ricochet (W) bounces attacks between targets, so the minion-into-champion trick works in both directions. On The Hunt (R) gives her whole team Move Speed to walk out of Bullet Time. Honestly, this is the cleanest lane answer (and the easiest to learn).

Samira

Blade Whirl (W) destroys enemy missiles while she slashes around herself. Bullet Time is a cone of bullets, and Double Up is a bullet, so a well-timed Whirl makes both disappear. Wild Rush (E) dashes through an enemy and refreshes on a champion kill, which is the mobility Miss Fortune lacks entirely, and Inferno Trigger (R) shoots everyone around her, a point-blank answer to a 550 range champion who has to stand and channel. Does she need to be in melee for all of this? Yes, and Daredevil Impulse rewards her for getting there with bonus magic damage.

Yasuo

Wind Wall (W) puts up a wall for 4 seconds, and the wall moves with him and stops every enemy projectile that touches it. Riot’s text doesn’t list which of her spells count as projectiles, so test it before you build a lane around it, but her kit is bullets from start to finish. He dashes through targets with Sweeping Blade (E), the third Steel Tempest (Q) sends out a whirlwind that knocks Airborne, and Last Breath (R) blinks onto the Airborne champion and keeps everyone nearby in the air. A Miss Fortune held in the air isn’t channelling anything.

Xayah

Featherstorm (R) lifts Xayah into the air, untargetable, and she throws a fan of daggers on the way (Feathers included). Bullet Time goes on for a while, and she doesn’t have to be targetable for any of it. Bladecaller (E) calls every dropped Feather back, damaging and rooting enemies along the way, and Clean Cuts (passive) makes her attacks hit everything along their path after an ability, which also drops Feathers. Deadly Plumage (W) grants Attack Speed and Move Speed on champion hits. Thing is, she matches Miss Fortune’s poke pattern and adds a root that Strut can’t outrun.

Lucian

Relentless Pursuit (E) is a short dash, and Lightslinger attacks reduce its cooldown, so he can step sideways out of the Bullet Time cone and then dash again soon after. Piercing Light (Q) shoots a bolt through a target, which answers Double Up with poke that goes through the minion too. Ardent Blaze (W) marks enemies and grants Move Speed for attacking them, and The Culling (R) fires a torrent of shots of his own, the difference being that he keeps his dash while she keeps her feet planted. In practice he wins by being where the cone isn’t.

How do you play the lane against Miss Fortune?

  • Never stand behind a minion or a support. Double Up hits a second target behind the first, and both hits apply Love Tap.
  • Hit her once to turn Strut off. The passive Move Speed only works while she isn’t attacked.
  • Walk out of Make It Rain sideways. It deals waves of damage and slows, so the longer you stay the more waves you eat.
  • Save a dash or a spell shield for level 6. Bullet Time is a channel into a cone; leaving the cone, or going untargetable, ends your part in it.
  • Trade after she ults. At rank 1 the ultimate is a 120 second cooldown, and a Miss Fortune without it has no burst left.

Which items counter Miss Fortune?

Her damage is physical and much of it comes in waves, so Armor and anything that stops a single big hit both work. Randuin’s Omen gives 75 Armor and 350 Health and takes 30% off damage from Critical Strikes, which matters since every wave of Bullet Time can crit, and its Humility active slows nearby enemies by 70% for 2 seconds (long enough to walk out of the cone). Plated Steelcaps trim 10% from every Attack, including the Love Taps. For AD champions, Edge of Night’s Annul blocks the next enemy Ability, and against her that’s usually Make It Rain or the ultimate. Mages take Zhonya’s Hourglass: Stasis lasts 2.5 seconds, and a stasis target takes nothing from the barrage. Why not Magic Resist? Because nothing in her kit deals magic damage, so Sunfire Aegis (50 Armor and a burn) beats any Magic Resist item here. The rest of the Armor shelf is in our LoL items database.

When is Miss Fortune at her weakest?

Mid-channel. Bullet Time holds her in place for its full duration, and the whole kit has no dash to leave with, so a stun, a knock-up or a simple engage during the ultimate ends it early and leaves her standing in front of a team that is now very close. To be fair, a good Miss Fortune ults from behind her tanks for exactly this reason. Make her prove she is one (most don’t).

The second moment is after a Strut proc gets cancelled. One attack from any source turns the passive Move Speed off, and the active only gives Attack Speed, so a Miss Fortune who has been tagged is a 550 range champion moving at base speed with a 12 second cooldown on her W. Funny enough, a single auto from a support is enough to set that up.

New to bot lane? Our guide to LoL roles explains what a Marksman and a support each do down there. Her outfits are collected on the Miss Fortune skins page, and the Miss Fortune ARAM guide covers the map where her cone catches five people at once. Put simply, Miss Fortune counters are the bot laners who can leave the cone, and she can’t follow.

FAQ

Who counters Miss Fortune the most?

Sivir, whose Spell Shield blocks an ability; Samira, whose Blade Whirl destroys missiles; Yasuo and his Wind Wall; Xayah, untargetable during Featherstorm; and Lucian, who dashes out of the cone.

Does Miss Fortune have a dash?

No. Her only mobility is Strut, passive Move Speed that works while she isn’t attacked. There is no dash or blink in her kit.

Can you interrupt Bullet Time?

Yes. It is a channel, so any stun, knock-up or similar crowd control stops it. Its cooldown is 120/110/100 seconds.

Does Spell Shield block Double Up?

Sivir’s Spell Shield blocks a single enemy ability cast on her, and Double Up is an ability, so yes. Blocking it also gives Sivir Health and Move Speed.

Where do these counter picks come from?

We set Miss Fortune’s ability text for patch 26.21 next to each champion’s kit and picked by hand. Win rates played no part.
