Jinx Counters: Who Beats Jinx

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch.

Jinx counters are champions who shut down her abilities, jump past her traps, or burst her down before Get Excited! triggers. She is an immobile marksman with no dash, relying on Zap!’s slow, Flame Chompers’ root, and Fishbones’ extra range to keep enemies away. Remove those tools. She folds.

These picks are editorial, chosen by how each kit interacts with Jinx’s abilities. We don’t use win-rate or pick-rate data, so read this as an explanation of why a matchup works, not a number.

Jinx counters: Jinx, the Loose Cannon, splash art

Why is Jinx hard to counter?

  • Get Excited! (passive): massively increased Move Speed and Attack Speed whenever she helps kill or destroy an enemy champion, epic jungle monster, or structure.
  • Switcheroo! (Q): swaps between Pow-Pow (minigun, stacking Attack Speed) and Fishbones (rocket launcher, AoE and extra range, but slower attacks that drain Mana).
  • Zap! (W): a shot that damages, slows, and reveals the first enemy hit.
  • Flame Chompers! (E): a line of snare grenades that root champions who walk over them.
  • Super Mega Death Rocket! (R): a global rocket that gains damage over distance and deals bonus damage based on missing Health.

Once Get Excited! fires, Jinx gains massively increased Move Speed and Attack Speed. But until that first takedown she has zero mobility, and that’s the window Jinx counters have to hit. Close on her before the snowball starts or don’t bother.

Which champions are the best Jinx counters?

Samira

Blade Whirl (W) destroys enemy missiles. Press W and that threat is gone. Wild Rush (E) then dashes through an enemy to close the gap, and once Samira is in melee range (where Daredevil Impulse adds bonus magic damage), Jinx has only Zap!’s slow and Flame Chompers’ root to create space, with no dash of her own.

Yasuo

Wind Wall (W) blocks all enemy projectiles for 4 seconds (including Zap! and Super Mega Death Rocket!). Sweeping Blade (E) lets Yasuo dash through minions toward Jinx, and a two-stack Steel Tempest (Q) whirlwind knocks her Airborne for Last Breath (R).

Caitlyn

650 range. Jinx sits at 525 with Pow-Pow. Even switching to Fishbones for increased range costs Mana and slows her attacks, so extending her range comes at a price. Why pay it when Caitlyn never has to? Yordle Snap Trap (W) immobilizes for 1.5 seconds (punishing against a champion with no dash), and Headshot (passive) fires at doubled range on trapped targets.

Tristana

Rocket Jump (W) sails her clean over Flame Chompers. The catch is, Chompers are Jinx’s only root, and skipping them leaves her with just Zap!’s slow for self-peel. Explosive Charge (E) sticks a bomb on Jinx, and Buster Shot (R) punts her away from her team. Draw a Bead (passive) increases Tristana’s Attack Range as she levels.

Sivir

Spell Shield (E) blocks one enemy ability. Against Jinx the menu is stacked: Zap!’s slow, Flame Chompers’ root, or Super Mega Death Rocket!’s missing-Health damage, and losing any of those at the wrong moment guts her defense or wastes the cross-map snipe. On The Hunt (R) also gives Sivir’s team a surge of Move Speed, so running down a dashless carry is free.

How do you play the lane against Jinx?

Honestly, the lane plan barely changes no matter who you pick into her.

  • Punish before level 6. Without Super Mega Death Rocket!, she has no cross-map missing-Health damage.
  • Stand behind minions. Zap! hits only the first enemy in its path.
  • Walk around Flame Chompers. They sit for 5 seconds before exploding. Going around beats waiting them out.
  • Respect stacked Pow-Pow. Don’t let her build up Pow-Pow’s Attack Speed on minions, then turn on you with the bonus. Disengage or trade back immediately.
  • Deny the first takedown. Get Excited! triggers when Jinx helps kill or destroy a champion, epic jungle monster, or structure. No takedown, no snowball.

Which items counter Jinx?

Pow-Pow attacks grant Jinx Attack Speed, so how do you itemize against her attacks? Randuin’s Omen reduces incoming Critical Strike damage by 30% (Resilience passive) and its Humility active slows nearby enemies by 70% for 2 seconds, which is brutal against a champion with no dash. Frozen Heart’s Winter’s Caress lowers the Attack Speed of nearby champions by 20%, directly cutting into the Attack Speed Pow-Pow grants.

For boots, Plated Steelcaps reduce incoming Attack damage by 10% on top of 25 Armor. Mages can build Zhonya’s Hourglass to enter Stasis and dodge Super Mega Death Rocket! flying in from across the map. Compare all of these in our LoL items database.

Does Jinx have a weak early game?

Her kit has no dash, and her base attack range of 525 is shorter than Caitlyn’s 650 or Draven’s 550. Fishbones drains Mana per shot (a real cost in extended trades). A Get Excited! trigger gives her massively increased Move Speed and Attack Speed on top of Fishbones’ area-of-effect rockets. Put simply, the window to punish her is early. Use it.

New to bot lane? If the position itself is unfamiliar, start with our guide to LoL roles before worrying about matchups. For what it’s worth, the Jinx counters above all target the same weakness. No mobility. Check the Jinx skins page for cosmetics, or the Jinx ARAM guide for that mode.

FAQ

Who counters Jinx the most?

Champions who can block or negate her abilities. Samira’s Blade Whirl destroys enemy missiles and Yasuo’s Wind Wall blocks all enemy projectiles for 4 seconds.

Can Jinx escape ganks?

Barely. She has no dash. Flame Chompers! can root a chaser and Zap! can slow one, but if both miss she’s got nothing left unless Get Excited! is already running.

What is the best support to pick against Jinx?

Engage supports with gap-closers. Anyone who gets on top of Jinx forces her to burn Flame Chompers defensively, leaving her with only Zap!’s slow for the next engage.

Should I fight Jinx early or late?

Early. Her base range is 525 and she has no escape. Once Get Excited! triggers, she gains massively increased Move Speed and Attack Speed.

Is this list based on win rates?

No. It is an editorial list of Jinx counters based on ability interactions in patch 26.21. We don’t use win-rate data.
