Rell ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Rell ARAM build is a tank-support build of aura and engage items, because Magnet Storm drags the whole enemy team into one spot and the items punish everyone standing there. The Howling Abyss trims her slightly: Rell deals 95% damage, takes 100% damage, and her healing and shielding drop to 90% and 90% in ARAM. None of that touches her crowd control.

We matched each item below to a line of her patch 26.21 ability text, without leaning on any win-rate chart.

How is Rell changed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Rell
Damage dealt 95%
Damage taken 100%
Healing 90%
Shielding 90%

Three small nerfs and one neutral value. Her damage falls by 5%, healing and shielding each by 10%, and damage taken stays where it is. The shielding cut hits Crash Down’s large shield, which is her main defensive tool when she lands. Why trim her? A pull-and-drag ultimate is brutal in a corridor where all five enemies are already close together. Riot takes a little off the numbers and leaves the crowd control alone (the part that actually wins ARAM fights).

Why does Rell fit the Howling Abyss?

Because Magnet Storm is at its best when enemies are close together, and on a single lane they always are. Her patch 26.21 kit:

  • Break the Mold (passive): extra magic damage on her attacks and abilities, plus stolen Armor and Magic Resist with each hit.
  • Shattering Strike (Q): a line of magic damage that breaks shields and stuns. Cooldown 11/10.5/10/9.5/9.
  • Ferromancy: Crash Down (W): dismounting knocks enemies up and grants a large shield plus defensive stats, at the cost of a slow; re-mounting gives speed and knocks up the next enemy she attacks. Cooldown 10.
  • Full Tilt (E): out-of-combat speed, or a ramping speed boost for her and an ally that doubles toward enemies, with an exploding next attack. Cooldown 14/13/12/11/10.
  • Magnet Storm (R): pulls nearby enemies in with a burst, then keeps dragging them toward her and dealing magic damage over time. Cooldown 120/100/80.

Look, the engage sequence is simple. Full Tilt with an ally, re-mount for the knock-up on the first enemy hit, Magnet Storm to pull everyone in, then Crash Down for a second knock-up and a shield. In practice that’s two knock-ups and a drag on most of the enemy team. Break the Mold makes it worse for them. Every hit she lands steals Armor and Magic Resist, and in a fight she touches everyone.

What should a Rell ARAM build focus on?

Thing is, she wants auras and on-crowd-control effects. She stands in the middle of the enemy team after Magnet Storm, so items that hurt or weaken everyone near her do the most work.

Zeke’s Convergence is the first buy. Frostfire Tempest creates a storm around her for 5 seconds whenever she casts her ultimate, dealing magic damage per second to enemy champions and slowing them by 30%. Since Magnet Storm drags everyone to her, the storm hits all of them for its whole duration.

Bandlepipes is second. Fanfare triggers whenever she slows or immobilizes an enemy champion, giving her 20 Move Speed and granting nearby allies Attack Speed. Rell immobilizes constantly (stun, knock-ups, drag), so the buff is almost always on in a fight.

Third, Abyssal Mask. Enemies close to her suffer Unmake’s 12% magic damage amplification, and after a Magnet Storm, close is exactly where they are. Her own passive and ultimate deal magic damage, so she benefits as well as her mages.

Locket of the Iron Solari closes the build. Devotion shields nearby allies for a moment, which covers your team as they follow her in, and it carries 30 Armor and 30 Magic Resist. Boots are Mercury’s Treads, for 30% Tenacity.

How do you play Rell on the Howling Abyss?

  • Engage with Full Tilt and a teammate. The speed doubles toward enemies and each other.
  • Cast Magnet Storm in the middle of the enemy team, then Crash Down for a second knock-up.
  • Aim Shattering Strike at shielded enemies. It breaks shields before the stun.
  • Re-mount between fights. Mounted Rell is faster and knocks up the next enemy she attacks.
  • Hit everyone at least once. Break the Mold steals Armor and Magic Resist from each target.

How do no-recall shopping and Mark change Rell’s game?

With no recall, Rell shops only at the opening and after each death. Her Crash Down shield is her main defence, and relics are her only healing, so she spends a lot of time at low Health. That’s normal for an engage tank in ARAM (dying after a five-man Magnet Storm is a good trade).

Mark is the snowball summoner; land it and you can dash straight to that champion. Your two spells are set before the match loads. Rell has Full Tilt for speed, so Mark is mostly a long-range opener: snowball the backline, dash, Magnet Storm. Is that a lot of commitment? It is. Honestly, that’s what Rell is for.

Is Rell good in ARAM?

Yes. Her 95% damage dealt, 90% healing and 90% shielding modifiers are small cuts, while Magnet Storm and two knock-ups hit far more people in a corridor than on the Rift. Her weak point is staying alive after the engage. She’s slowed while dismounted and her shield is trimmed, so her team needs to follow quickly.

The supports who handle her best are in our Rell counter list. For her usual role on the Rift, read our explainer on LoL roles. Each item’s numbers are in the League items database, and her cosmetics are collected on the Rell skins page.

The Rell ARAM build, then: Zeke’s Convergence, Bandlepipes, Abyssal Mask and Locket of the Iron Solari on Mercury’s Treads, with every fight started by Magnet Storm.
