Locket of the Iron Solari is a 2,200 gold support item in League of Legends with a team shield: 200 Health, 30 Armor, 30 Magic Resist and 10 Ability Haste in patch 26.21. Its Devotion active shields every nearby ally for 290 to 360 damage, decaying over 2.5 seconds, which is why tank supports buy it to blunt enemy burst.

What does the Devotion active do?

You press it and every ally close to you gets a shield at once. The shield is worth 290 to 360 damage, depending on the scaling shown in the tooltip, and it decays over 2.5 seconds, so it’s strongest right after you cast it.

That short window is the whole skill. Timing it as an enemy mage starts a combo or an assassin dives your carry can cancel a kill outright. Cast it too early and the shield fades before the damage arrives. Wait too long? Someone’s already dead. Thing is, it covers your whole team in one button, so in a five-versus-five fight the total shielding adds up quickly.

Is the Iron Solari Locket gold efficient?

A touch above even, at 102%. The four stats are worth 2,233 gold against a 2,200 gold price, and the team shield comes free.

Broken down with prices from basic items: 200 Health comes to 533 gold, 30 Armor and 30 Magic Resist to 600 gold each, and 10 Ability Haste to 500 gold. It’s one of the cheapest legendary items in the shop, which matters for a support on a small gold income (supports finish items slowly, so a lower price means the active shows up sooner).

What does it build from?

Kindlegem (800 gold), Cloth Armor (300) and Null-Magic Mantle (400), then a 700 gold combine. Kindlegem is the biggest piece and brings Health and Ability Haste. The two resistance components are cheap enough to pick up on short backs. Nothing builds out of the finished item.

How has it changed over the patches?

It’s been in Riot’s data since 2013 or earlier, and the recent history is mostly small resistance and price moves:

  • Patch 10.23: cost 2,200 → 2,700 gold, Magic Resist 60 → 30.
  • Patch 14.1: 100 gold cheaper (now 2,200), and Ability Haste halved from 20 to 10.
  • 14.19 trimmed Armor and Magic Resist from 30 to 25 each.
  • Patch 26.11: Armor and Magic Resist back up, 25 → 30.

Funny enough, patch 26.11 simply undid the 14.19 nerf. Why cut it and restore it two years later? Riot doesn’t say. Every change sits in the table above (older ones from patch 10.23 too), and support items in general are easy to compare in our LoL items database.

Who should buy the Iron Solari Locket?

Tank supports and engage supports, mostly. If the enemy team relies on burst, whether from mages or assassins, a Locket shield at the right moment saves more than raw stats on a single player would. Honestly, it’s also a fine pick for a tank jungler when the support takes a different item.

Enchanters who stay at the back usually pick other options, since they often want healing or shielding items with bigger single-target effects; Redemption is the usual alternative when the team needs a heal more than a shield. Usually one Locket per team is enough (one team shield button is usually plenty). Our guide to LoL roles explains who plays the support role, and for tank supports the Iron Solari Locket is a common first or second item.
