Thresh ARAM Build and Guide
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.
A Thresh ARAM build has to cover a small nerf: in ARAM, Thresh takes 105% damage. His kit still works on the Howling Abyss: nonstop fighting feeds his passive souls all game, and every hook in that narrow lane has a clump of targets behind it.
Thresh’s items were picked for their effect text this patch and how they back up his hooks. We don’t use win-rate data.

How is Thresh changed in ARAM?
| ARAM modifier | Thresh |
|---|---|
| Damage taken | 105% |
Only 5% extra damage taken, and no change to his damage, healing or shields. Souls and hooks matter much more than the modifier.
Why does Thresh fit the Howling Abyss?
- Damnation: souls from enemies dying near him grant permanent Armor and Ability Power, and ARAM has deaths every fight.
- Death Sentence: a hook that pulls an enemy to him, with a second cast that pulls Thresh in.
- Dark Passage: a lantern that shields allies and lets them dash to him.
- Flay: a sweep that knocks enemies in a direction, useful to peel or to drag a target back.
- The Box: walls that slow and damage enemies who break through, strong in a lane with no side paths.
What should a Thresh ARAM build focus on?
Team protection and tankiness. Locket of the Iron Solari (200 Health, 30 Armor, 30 Magic Resist) puts a shield on every ally standing near Thresh. Knight’s Vow adds 200 Health and 40 Armor. It also lets him take part of the damage his chosen Worthy ally receives. Zeke’s Convergence (300 Health, 25 Armor, 25 Magic Resist) summons a storm around him when he casts his ultimate.
For what it’s worth, the 105% damage taken means Armor and Magic Resist on every item stretch further than usual.
How do you play Thresh on the Howling Abyss?
- Collect souls. Stay near fights so enemies die close to you.
- Hook the backline. The front line usually stands in the way, so aim between tanks.
- Box the lane. The Box in a narrow lane is hard to walk around.
- Lantern the diver. Dark Passage can pull an ally who went too deep back to safety.
How do shopping and Mark change the plan?
Two ARAM rules hit you every game. You can’t recall to buy items, so you shop at the fountain at the start and each time you respawn (plan the next item before you die, not after). Thresh recovers from lane relics, since nobody goes home to heal here. Mark is the mode’s own spell: a snowball that, on a hit, lets Thresh follow it with a dash (which pairs nicely with a lantern for the ally behind him).
For Thresh, Mark is a second catch tool: a snowball that lands can set up Flay or The Box even when Death Sentence is on cooldown. For Thresh, that choice is locked from the loading screen on. On a support it decides how often you can make a play.
What do those numbers mean in a fight?
How much does 105% damage taken hurt? A burst of 1,000 damage aimed at him lands as 1,050 in ARAM. For a support tank standing at the front, that extra damage stacks up fast, so build resistances on every item.
His passive is where ARAM pays him back. Enemies who die near him leave souls that give permanent Armor and Ability Power, and ARAM fights produce deaths every minute or two. Long games make him a lot tankier, since every soul permanently adds Armor and Ability Power.
Who gives him the most trouble? Supports who block his hook, like Morgana or Braum, and teams that hide behind the minion wave, since Death Sentence stops on the first enemy it hits.
Is Thresh good in ARAM?
Yes, and he gets stronger the longer the game goes, because every soul adds permanent Armor and Ability Power. The catch is the hook: minions block it, and the wave is always in the way. Laning against Thresh on the Rift has its own page, the Thresh counters guide. Every Thresh skin sits on our Thresh skins page, while the LoL items database keeps each item’s full patch history.
Put simply, a good Thresh ARAM game comes down to souls early, hooks on the backline, and a Box across the lane when the enemy commits.
