Leona ARAM Build and Guide
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.
Leona deals 95% damage and takes 105% damage in ARAM, Riot hits her on both sides. Three hard CCs in one kit, though, and that’s all she needs. She locks people down. Your team does the rest, so build tank, wait for the enemy team to group up, land Solar Flare on as many of them as you can, and go in.
Leona’s items come from reading their effects this patch against her stuns. We don’t use win-rate data.

How is Leona changed in ARAM?
| ARAM modifier | Leona |
|---|---|
| Damage dealt | 95% |
| Damage taken | 105% |
Both numbers push against her. She hits softer and takes more punishment than on Summoner’s Rift, so every engage costs her. Why both nerfs? Honestly, a champion with a point-and-click stun, a skillshot immobilize, and a ranged area stun would be oppressive at full power in a single lane.
Why does Leona’s kit work in one lane?
- Sunlight (passive): her spells mark enemies for 1.5 seconds, and allied champions consuming the mark deal bonus magic damage. Five teammates in one lane means Sunlight gets consumed constantly.
- Shield of Daybreak (Q): her next basic attack stuns the target. The cooldown is 5 seconds at all ranks, so she can stun more than once per fight.
- Eclipse (W): grants Damage Reduction, Armor, and Magic Resist, then deals magic damage to nearby enemies when the duration first ends. This is what keeps her alive while she’s sitting on top of someone.
- Zenith Blade (E): a line skillshot that deals magic damage, briefly immobilizes the last champion hit, and dashes Leona to them. In a single lane with ten players, someone’s getting hit.
- Solar Flare (R): a ranged beam that stuns enemies in the center and slows those on the edges. Grouped ARAM teams make it easy to land on multiple people.
Thing is, every ability here is about going in. Leona has no poke, no sustain, and nothing to help her disengage once she dashes forward. If your team doesn’t follow up, she dies for free.
What should a Leona ARAM build focus on?
Survive the engage, then protect the team. Look, she’s not the damage.
Locket of the Iron Solari (200 Health, 30 Armor, 30 Magic Resist, 10 Ability Haste) is the default first item. Its active shields nearby allies for 290 to 360 Health, and in ARAM that means all four teammates are close enough to catch it. Zeke’s Convergence (300 Health, 25 Armor, 25 Magic Resist, 10 Ability Haste) pairs well with her ult: casting Solar Flare summons a storm around her that deals 30 magic damage per second and slows enemies by 30% for 5 seconds.
After those two, Unending Despair (400 Health, 50 Armor, 15 Ability Haste) deals magic damage to nearby enemy champions every 4 seconds in combat and heals for 250% of the damage dealt. She’s always in the thick of things, so it procs reliably (she’s a 125-range melee champion, after all). Sunfire Aegis (350 Health, 50 Armor, 10 Ability Haste) is the swap if you want the Immolate passive for more constant area damage.
How do you play Leona on the Howling Abyss?
- Start fights with R, not E. Solar Flare has range. If you open with Zenith Blade and miss, you’re stuck in the middle of five enemies with no way out.
- R first, then E into the stun. The center of Solar Flare stuns; follow up with Zenith Blade and Shield of Daybreak before they can flash.
- Cast W during the E dash. Eclipse grants Damage Reduction, Armor, and Magic Resist on activation, and its damage triggers when the duration first ends, so activate it while traveling to have the full effect ready when you land.
- Peel when behind. If your team is losing fights, use Q and E to protect your carry instead of diving. Sure, most games are about engage, but sometimes peeling wins.
How do shopping and Mark change the plan?
You can’t recall in ARAM, so you buy at the start and each time you respawn. For Leona, that often means dying in a fight you started. That’s fine. Your team wins the fight, you did your job. Plan the next item before you go in, not after you’re staring at the shop. Health relics in the lane restore health between deaths, and in practice your carries need them more than you do.
Mark is the big one. Hit someone with its snowball and a recast sends you flying to them. On Leona, that’s a gap closer on top of a gap closer: hit the snowball, dash in with the recast, then E and Q onto someone else entirely. You reach one target with the snowball dash and lock down another with E and Q before the fight really starts. You pick Mark before the game loads, and it stays fixed the whole match. Take it.
Is Leona good in ARAM?
Yes. Her kit is nothing but CC, and all ARAM does is throw ten people into the same lane over and over. Does the 95% damage penalty matter? Not really. Her value was never in damage. It’s in holding someone still while four allies unload.
She hates poke-heavy teams that whittle her down before she can go in, and she’s dead weight if nobody on her team has follow-up damage. For who gives her trouble on Summoner’s Rift, see our Leona counters guide. Her skins are on the Leona skins page, and every item in this Leona ARAM guide has full stats in our item stats database.
FAQ
Is Leona buffed or nerfed in ARAM?
Nerfed. On the Howling Abyss the wiki puts Leona at 95% damage dealt and 105% damage taken.
What does Sunlight do in ARAM?
Leona’s passive marks enemies hit by her spells for 1.5 seconds. When an allied champion damages a marked target, the mark is consumed for bonus magic damage. With four allies in one lane, it gets consumed quickly.
What items does Leona build on the Howling Abyss?
Tank and support items. Locket of the Iron Solari for the team shield, Zeke’s Convergence because it pairs with her ult, and Unending Despair or Sunfire Aegis so she doesn’t melt in extended fights.
Should I take Mark on Leona?
Yes. Mark gives her a second gap closer on top of Zenith Blade, letting her reach targets outside E range or lock down two people in one sequence.
Is this build based on win rates?
No. This Leona ARAM guide is editorial, based on item and ability effects in patch 26.21. We don’t use win-rate data.
