Morgana ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Morgana ARAM build is an AP mage build with Health and a stasis item, because the Howling Abyss nerfs her on both ends. She deals 95% damage and takes 110% damage in ARAM. What she keeps at full strength is the utility: a long root, a shield that eats crowd control and an ultimate that stuns a crowd.

The four items below come from reading her patch 26.21 abilities next to the current shop. Win rates played no part.

How is Morgana changed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Morgana
Damage dealt 95%
Damage taken 110%

A double nerf. Every tick of Tormented Shadow and every chain of Soul Shackles hits 5% softer than on Summoner’s Rift, while everything aimed at her lands 10% harder. Why would Riot trim a support like that? Because on a single lane her pool sits on top of the enemy team almost permanently, and a Morgana who survives the first trade usually wins the next one. Honestly, the damage-taken part is the one to plan around. Her 450 range is short for a mage, and the Abyss gives her nowhere to hide while she lines up a binding.

Why does Morgana still work on the Howling Abyss?

Because nothing in the modifier touches crowd control. Riot’s ability text for patch 26.21:

  • Soul Siphon (passive): healing whenever she damages champions, large minions or bigger jungle monsters.
  • Dark Binding (Q): roots one enemy in place and deals magic damage. Cooldown 10 seconds.
  • Tormented Shadow (W): a circle of magic damage over time that grows stronger against low-Health targets. Cooldown 12.
  • Black Shield (E): an ally barrier soaking magic damage plus disables, gone once broken. Cooldown 26/23.5/21/18.5/16.
  • Soul Shackles (R): chains every nearby enemy champion, slowing and damaging them, then stuns whoever couldn’t break free; she gains Move Speed while it runs. Cooldown 120/110/100.

Count the targets. On the Rift, Soul Shackles catches two people in a good bot lane fight; in a corridor where five enemies stand within a few steps of each other, it can chain the whole team. The root is a 10 second cooldown, so in a long poke war she throws it six times a minute (or close to it, with Ability Haste). Black Shield matters more here too. Engage champions are everywhere in random picks, and one shield on the right teammate cancels a big engage ultimate outright (as long as it disables rather than just deals physical damage). Short version? The modifiers cost her damage, not control.

What should a Morgana ARAM build focus on?

Damage over time, Health and a way to survive her own engage. Thing is, she spends most fights standing in the middle of the enemy team waiting for the chains to pop, and that’s where 110% damage taken hurts most.

Liandry’s Torment goes first, for what it’s worth on a support who isn’t supposed to carry. Torment burns enemies for 2% of their max Health as magic damage per second for 3 seconds whenever an ability damages them, and Tormented Shadow damages every second it sits under someone, so the burn barely ever drops off. Stay in a fight long enough and Suffering stacks toward 6% extra damage on top. The 300 Health is a quiet bonus (and a welcome one) that pays for some of the damage-taken modifier.

Zhonya’s Hourglass comes second, and the reason is the ultimate. Soul Shackles needs her to stay close until the delay runs out, which is when the enemy team turns around and hits her. Time Stop puts her in Stasis for 2.5 seconds, and the 50 Armor helps against the bruisers who reach her first. To be fair, it’s the one item on the list that does no damage at all. It doesn’t need to.

Third, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter. Rimefrost makes damaging abilities slow enemies by 30% for 1 second, and a slowed champion standing in Tormented Shadow has a harder time walking away from Soul Shackles too. That’s two ways to keep a target inside her zone. Another 400 Health comes with it.

Malignance rounds out the four. Scorn grants 20 Ultimate Ability Haste, which shortens a 120 second cooldown that only fires once per fight, and Hatefog burns the ground under any champion her ultimate damages for 3s while cutting their Magic Resist. Facing a team of healers? Morellonomicon swaps in for its Grievous Wounds. Boots are Sorcerer’s Shoes, 12 Magic Penetration for 1,100 gold.

How do you play Morgana on the Howling Abyss?

  • Throw Dark Binding through gaps in the wave. It roots one enemy, and a root on the frontline wastes the cooldown.
  • Keep Black Shield for the ally the enemy engage is aimed at, usually the carry, not yourself.
  • Walk in with Soul Shackles after the enemy has used a dash. The chains stun those who can’t break them, and a champion without a gap closer struggles to leave the range.
  • Drop Tormented Shadow on low-Health targets; its damage climbs as their Health falls.
  • Press Zhonya’s Hourglass the moment the focus lands on you, not after.

What do no-recall shopping and Mark mean for Morgana?

You can’t go back to buy. The fountain opens at the start of the game and after each death, and the health relics along the lane are the only top-up between them. Soul Siphon covers part of that gap, which is a real perk on a map where most supports bleed out slowly. Real talk, though: with 110% damage taken, she’ll be back at the fountain often enough that sitting on unspent gold rarely happens.

ARAM swaps in Mark, a thrown snowball that turns into a dash once it connects with a champion. Spells get picked ahead of the loading screen, then they’re yours until the nexus falls. On Morgana, the snowball is a delivery system for Soul Shackles: land it on someone in the back, dash in, ultimate, Zhonya’s. Is that greedy? A bit (it only works if your team follows), but it’s the fastest way to put the chains on the people you actually want stunned.

Is Morgana good in ARAM?

She’s fine, despite the nerfs. The 95% damage dealt and 110% damage taken modifiers both work against her, but a teamfight ultimate, a 10 second root and a spell shield that cancels enemy engage all keep their full value on a single lane. In practice she relies on her team to follow up, since her own damage after the nerf is modest.

The champions who handle her best deal damage that Black Shield can’t absorb, and our breakdown of who beats Morgana covers them pick by pick. On the Rift she usually plays support, a position our explainer on LoL roles describes in plain terms. The full stats for every item mentioned are in our items database, and her cosmetics sit on the Morgana skins page.

So, the Morgana ARAM build: Liandry’s Torment, Zhonya’s Hourglass, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter and Malignance on Sorcerer’s Shoes, with the ultimate saved for the moment the enemy team bunches up.

FAQ

Is Morgana nerfed in ARAM?

Yes, on both sides. For patch 26.21 the League of Legends Wiki lists her at 95% damage dealt and 110% damage taken, so she hits a little softer and gets hit a little harder.

What items does the Morgana ARAM build use?

Liandry’s Torment, Zhonya’s Hourglass, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter and Malignance, with Sorcerer’s Shoes. Morellonomicon replaces Malignance against heavy healing.

Why build Zhonya’s Hourglass on Morgana?

Soul Shackles only stuns after a delay, so she has to stay near the enemy team. Zhonya’s Hourglass puts her in Stasis while the chains finish.

Does Black Shield block crowd control in ARAM?

Yes. It absorbs magic damage and disabling effects until it breaks, exactly as on Summoner’s Rift. The ARAM modifiers do not change it.

Where do these Morgana items come from?

From comparing her patch 26.21 ability text with each item’s passive. No win-rate data was used.
