Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magic Resist | 25 | 20 g | 500 g |
| Move Speed | 45 | 12 g | 540 g |
| Total stat value | 1040 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 1040 ÷ 1250 = 83%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted, and neither are Tenacity (no basic item sells this stat alone).

Chainlaced Crushers is the tier-three upgrade of Mercury’s Treads in League of Legends, worth 1,250 gold: 25 Magic Resist, 45 Move Speed and 30% Tenacity in patch 26.21. Its Noxian Persistence passive gives you a magic damage shield for 5 seconds after an enemy champion hits you with magic damage.
What does Chainlaced Crushers do?
It keeps everything Mercury’s Treads had (Magic Resist, Tenacity, the standard boots speed) and adds a reactive shield. When a champion deals magic damage to you, Noxian Persistence puts a shield on you that blocks magic damage for 5 seconds.
Tenacity shortens crowd control. A stun, root or charm on you lasts a smaller share of its normal time (slows aren’t affected), so a chain of disables from a mage team has gaps you can walk or Flash through. Put that together with the shield and you get boots with one job: surviving a team that wants to lock you down and burst you with spells.
The catch is the passive’s numbers. Riot’s data text doesn’t give the shield size or how often it can trigger, so the client tooltip is where you check those.
Is it gold efficient?
On priced stats it reaches 83%, with 1,040 gold of value against a 1,250 gold total.
That figure counts 25 Magic Resist at 20 gold per point (500 gold) and 45 Move Speed at 12 gold per point (540 gold). No basic item sells Tenacity, so the math skips it, and it skips the shield too. Since the upgrade costs nothing on top of Mercury’s Treads, the efficiency number doesn’t change much about the decision anyway.
Where does the upgrade come from?
From Mercury’s Treads. Riot’s item data lists Treads as the only component with no extra combine cost; the total stays at 1,250 gold and the sell price is 875 gold. How the upgrade unlocks in a match isn’t described in the item data, so the shop in the client shows when it’s ready.
What did item 3173 used to be?
Two other things, believe it or not. It started as Eleisa’s Miracle, then became Space Boots of Lucidity in patch 8.18, and only took its current form with the 2025 season:
- Patch 25.S1.1: renamed from Space Boots of Lucidity, Magic Resist 35, Move Speed 50 and Tenacity 30% added, value 2,050 gold.
- 25.04 and 25.09 brought the value down to 2,000 and then 1,750 gold.
- Patch 26.1: value 1,750 → 1,250 gold, Magic Resist 35 → 30, Move Speed 50 → 45.
- Patch 26.16: Magic Resist 30 → 25.
Two Magic Resist cuts in one year. Riot clearly thought the upgraded Treads were too sturdy (the shield on top probably didn’t help). The older entries are in the table above, and our LoL items database shows the other boots upgrades for comparison.
Who should take Chainlaced Crushers?
Who’s it for? Anyone on Mercury’s Treads, which in practice means champions facing heavy magic damage and lots of crowd control. Tanks and fighters buy Treads most, and some marksmen and mages do too when the enemy team is full of stuns.
Honestly, you made the real choice at tier two. If Treads made sense, the upgrade does too, especially against two or more mages who open fights with crowd control. Against a mostly physical team? You probably shouldn’t have Treads at all. Our guide to LoL roles covers which positions face the most crowd control, and those are the players who end up with Chainlaced Crushers.
