Ahri Counters: Who Beats Ahri
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch.
The best Ahri counters are champions that block or dodge Charm and punish her when she goes in. She chains Charm into Orb of Deception and Fox-Fire for kills, then escapes with up to three Spirit Rush dashes, so you want someone who walls off her projectiles, goes untargetable through the combo, or makes her regret dashing in.
Each pick here comes from an editorial read of how a champion’s abilities line up against Ahri’s kit. No win-rate data went into it, so read each matchup as reasoning rather than a tier list.

Why is Ahri hard to counter?
- Essence Theft (passive): Ahri heals after killing 9 minions or monsters, and heals more after a champion takedown.
- Orb of Deception (Q): sends out an orb dealing magic damage and pulls it back dealing true damage.
- Fox-Fire (W): grants a burst of Move Speed and releases three fox-fires that lock onto nearby enemies.
- Charm (E): Ahri blows a kiss that damages and charms an enemy, stopping movement abilities and forcing them to walk toward her.
- Spirit Rush (R): dashes forward and fires essence bolts, up to three casts. Champion takedowns grant additional recasts.
Charm starts the combo. Spirit Rush gives her up to three dashes to escape, and because Q’s return deals true damage, you can’t just stack MR and call it a day.
Which champions are the best Ahri counters?
Yasuo
For 4 seconds, Wind Wall (W) stops every enemy projectile, and that means Charm and Orb of Deception simply vanish into it. Way of the Wanderer (passive) also builds a shield while Yasuo moves (just from walking around), so he has a buffer before the wall even goes up. One wall erases Charm and Orb of Deception in a trade.
Fizz
Playful / Trickster (E) makes Fizz untargetable. He dodges Charm on reaction and avoids the follow-up burst. Thing is, Ahri’s kill pattern requires Charm to land first, and a Fizz who holds E for that moment forces her to throw Charm into nothing or give up the trade entirely. Urchin Strike (Q) dashes through the target, so he closes distance fast once she wastes her CC. She has nothing left.
Kassadin
Void Stone (passive) reduces the magic damage Kassadin takes, and the outgoing half of Orb of Deception deals magic damage (the return half deals true damage). That half lands softer. Null Sphere (Q) gives him a magic damage shield on top of that, and Riftwalk (R) lets him teleport to a nearby location, damaging enemies around him. She can Spirit Rush away all she wants, he follows.
Vex
Doom ‘n Gloom (passive) is the problem. Whenever a nearby enemy dashes, Vex applies a mark for bonus damage and reduces the cooldown of her empowered fear. Spirit Rush gives Ahri three dashes, sometimes more on takedowns. Every single one triggers a mark.
Malzahar
Void Shift (passive) gives Malzahar CC immunity and blocks most damage, as long as he hasn’t taken a hit or been CC’d recently. Charm is crowd control, so a Malzahar with passive up just ignores it (walks right through). Nether Grasp (R) suppresses the target, locking her down even if Spirit Rush is available. The catch is, he needs that passive shield intact when she engages, so he has to avoid her poke beforehand.
How do you counter Ahri in lane?
- Sidestep, don’t retreat. Charm and Orb of Deception are both skillshots Ahri has to aim. Moving sideways dodges both; walking backward just delays the hit.
- Punish after Charm misses. It has a 12-second cooldown at all ranks. That’s a long window where Ahri has no hard CC and limited kill threat.
- Track Spirit Rush. The cooldown starts at 140 seconds at rank one. Once it’s down, she has no mobility for over two minutes. Call for ganks in that window.
- Don’t eat both halves of Q. The return pass deals true damage, which MR can’t reduce. Sidestep after the first hit if you can.
Which items counter Ahri?
Her combo starts with Charm, so what blocks it? Banshee’s Veil grants a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability (one hit and it’s gone), and if Charm hits the shield her combo falls apart before it begins. Edge of Night does the same for AD champions. Mercury’s Treads add 20 Magic Resist and 30% Tenacity, which shortens the Charm duration so she has less time to follow up. Maw of Malmortius gives a magic damage shield when magic damage would drop you below 30% health, which can absorb part of her burst. AP laners want Zhonya’s Hourglass. It puts you in stasis for 2.5 seconds, letting you avoid damage while her combo is active. Check our LoL items database for the full numbers.
Is Ahri harder to counter in teamfights?
Sure, in lane you can track Charm’s 12-second cooldown and fight in the gap. Teamfights are messier. Ahri throws Charm at whoever steps out of line, and Spirit Rush gains additional recasts on takedowns, so she can dash way more than three times in a single fight. So why pick these counters? Because the tools still work: Wind Wall still eats her projectiles in a 5v5, Nether Grasp still pins her, Vex passive still procs on every dash.
Honestly, Ahri counters hit harder in lane than in teamfights, where you can’t predict who she’ll Charm next. If mid is new to you, our guide to LoL roles breaks it down. All her cosmetics are on the Ahri skins page, and ARAM players can grab builds from the Ahri ARAM guide.
FAQ
Who counters Ahri the most?
Yasuo is a strong counter because Wind Wall blocks enemy projectiles for 4 seconds, wiping Charm and Orb of Deception out of the air before her combo even starts.
Can you dodge Ahri’s Charm with a dash?
Charm stops movement abilities on hit. If the projectile connects during your dash, your dash ends immediately. You need to dodge it entirely or use an ability that makes you untargetable, like Fizz’s Playful / Trickster.
Why is Spirit Rush so hard to play against?
It gives Ahri up to three dashes, with additional recasts on champion takedowns. The cooldown is 140 seconds at rank one, but while active she can reposition multiple times in a single fight.
Does Magic Resist fully counter Ahri?
No. Orb of Deception deals true damage on the return trip, which ignores all resistances. MR still helps against the rest of her kit, but in practice, that true damage chunk hits full force no matter what.
Is this list based on win rates?
No. Ability interactions in patch 26.21 are what this editorial list is built on. We don’t use win-rate data.
