Space Groove Teemo

First game I played with Space Groove Teemo was around 1 AM on a Tuesday, right after the November 2022 patch dropped. Locked it in immediately for a ranked game. The loading screen splash alone told me Riot did something different here. This isnt just a reskin with some sparkles thrown on top. Full Legendary treatment on the most annoying yordle in the game, and honestly, it works way better than it should.

What Space Groove Teemo actually brings to the Rift

So the whole Space Groove line has this retro-disco cosmic vibe, right? Teemo fits it perfectly. The model is completely reworked. He’s got this funky space suit, oversized headphones, and the mushrooms look like little disco balls. Not gonna lie, the first time I saw the shroom VFX I laughed out loud in a Diamond lobby.

Q fires off with this groovy particle trail, purple and pink energy that spirals toward the target. Clean read on it too, you can tell exactly when it procs the blind. W activation gives Teemo this little boosted animation where he starts grooving harder as he runs. Kinda feels like he’s skating across the lane. Small touch but you notice it every game.

E poison particles got the full treatment. The toxic shots leave these swirling cosmic dots on enemies, and the poison tick has a subtle disco shimmer. In teamfights where you’re just auto-attacking from the backline, the visual feedback is genuinely better than base Teemo. Easier to track who’s poisoned.

R is the star though. The mushrooms. Each shroom plants as this little glowing disco orb with rings around it. When someone steps on one the explosion is this burst of funky energy with musical notes scattering out. Been running this in Diamond for three seasons now and I still get a kick out of watching the enemy jungler walk into a shroom nest near dragon pit. The chain detonation looks incredible.

New voice lines carry this skin hard. Melissa Hutchison on the VO, and Teemo sounds like this spaced-out DJ who wandered onto the Rift by accident. The recall animation has him setting up a little DJ booth, spinning records, the whole thing. Could be wrong here but I think the recall music is actually unique to this skin, not shared with other Space Groove skins. Worth checking yourself.

Played maybe 200 games with this skin between season 12 and now. The auto attack animation feels slightly smoother than base, which matters when you’re trying to cs in top lane against a Darius who wants to run you down pre-6. Might be placebo but multiple Teemo mains in my games have said the same thing.

The Space Groove line and release context

Space Groove Teemo dropped November 17, 2022. Late season 12, right before preseason chaos. Horace ‘Hozure’ Hsu nailed the splash, the composition puts Teemo center stage with the cosmic disco background radiating out behind him. Portfolio piece level work honestly.

The Space Groove skinline is one of Riot’s more creative thematic sets. You got Blitzcrank, Lulu, Nami, Rumble, and a bunch of others in the line. Teemo getting the Legendary slot for the second wave made sense. He’s the poster child for “annoying but beloved” and the groovy aesthetic softens his image just enough.

6 chromas total. Obsidian is my pick, goes full dark mode on the suit and the mushroom VFX shift darker too. Rose Quartz hits a softer pink that reads well against the green of Summoner’s Rift. Rainbow is the meme choice obviously but (random aside: I’ve had three separate teammates compliment the Rainbow chroma unprompted in ranked). The rest are fine but those three stand out.

1820 RP for a Legendary. Standard pricing. Full Legendary price, earns it though. New model, new VFX on every ability, new VO with unique voice lines, new recall, new animations. This isnt a situation where you’re paying Legendary tax for Epic-tier content. Everything you expect from that price point is here.

How it compares in the Teemo skin pool

Teemo has a massive skin catalog. Little Devil Teemo was the previous “premium” pick for most mains. Omega Squad had its moment. Beemo is the cute option. Spirit Blossom Teemo is solid. But Space Groove Teemo occupies a lane of its own because of the full VO package.

Not sure if it’s just me but the other Teemo skins feel dated after you play Space Groove for a while. Going back to Omega Squad last week felt like downgrading. The particles on Omega Squad are good but the voice lines are what you miss. Space Groove Teemo has context-specific lines for poke, for kills, for placing shrooms. That level of detail in the VO makes every game session feel more alive.

One thing I’ll note for splitpush mains specifically. The shroom visibility on Space Groove is slightly more noticeable than base skin shrooms for the enemy team. The disco glow before they stealth is a hair brighter. In my Diamond games nobody’s mentioned it being an issue but if you’re the type who obsesses over competitive advantage, fair warning. Probably doesnt matter below Challenger.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. If you play Teemo with any regularity, Space Groove Teemo is the skin. S-tier Teemo cosmetic. The VO alone justifies the Legendary price and the VFX package is clean across every ability. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault rotation to worry about.

For Teemo one-tricks this is a no-brainer. 1820 RP well spent for mains. For people who play Teemo once every 30 games in ARAM, probably skip it and grab Beemo or Cottontail for cheaper. But real talk though, if you’re locking in Teemo for lane and want the best gameplay experience the skin catalog offers, Space Groove is where you end up. Been my go-to Teemo skin since it dropped and I dont see that changing anytime soon.
