Space Groove Nunu & Willump

First time I saw this skin in a loading screen I thought someone modded their client. Nunu & Willump riding a giant disco yeti through the jungle felt like a fever dream from a late night session. Been running this in Diamond for a solid stretch and honestly the whole vibe just works. Space Groove as a skinline leans hard into the retro funk aesthetic and Nunu & Willump might be the best fit in the entire batch.

The disco yeti treatment

Willump gets a full redesign into this groovy alien creature with fur that shifts between purple and teal. The color palette alone sets it apart from every other Nunu & Willump skin. Nunu himself is rocking a little space outfit with star-shaped accessories, which is a nice touch for the kid-on-a-monster fantasy.

Q consume has these sparkly particle effects that feel satisfying to proc on camps. Kinda feels like Willump is eating pure stardust. The W snowball becomes this rolling disco ball situation and I’m not exaggerating when I say it looks better than some Legendary skin abilities. Watching it roll through river toward bot lane at full speed is genuinely funny. E snowball toss gets retextured with the same funky particle system. Clean but not overwhelming.

The recall animation is where Riot put in extra work. Nunu and Willump break into a dance routine and its one of those recalls you actually let finish instead of canceling early. Not gonna lie, I’ve died in jungle because I wanted to watch the full thing. Worth it. Voice lines stay base, no new VO for this one, but the VFX carry enough personality that you dont really miss it.

(Random aside: I use this recall to BM after stealing dragon and it hits different every time.)

Space Groove context and the chroma situation

Released April 1, 2021. Right in the middle of season 11 when Space Groove dropped as a full skinline. Yan Kyohara and West Studio handled the artwork, they captured the retro-space energy perfectly in the splash. The whole Space Groove line includes champs like Lux, Blitzcrank, Rumble, and a few others but Nunu & Willump fits the theme more naturally than most. A giant fuzzy monster doing disco moves just makes sense.

9 chromas total which is a lot for an Epic skin. Obsidian goes full dark mode and reads really well on the Rift, probably my favorite for ranked because it feels less distracting. Disco chroma leans into the neon teal and purple combo harder than base, which is saying something. Rose Quartz gives a softer pink tone that honestly looks clean in teamfights. The rest are fine but those three stand out. Could be wrong here but I think Obsidian is slept on hard by most Nunu & Willump mains.

Is 1350 RP the right price?

For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP this delivers. Real talk though. The VFX quality on the W alone justifies the price for me. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across two seasons and it hasnt gotten stale. That rolling disco snowball into a gank from river around 2 AM last Tuesday still made me laugh. Some skins wear out after a month. This one doesn’t.

If you’re a Nunu & Willump jungle main this is top pick material. S-tier cosmetic for the champion. The only competition is Nunu Beelump if you prefer the cute angle, but Space Groove has more visual punch in my opinion. Papercraft is solid too but the VFX on that one feel dated compared to what Space Groove brought.

Shop has it, permanent availability. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Been maining Nunu & Willump with this skin locked in for jungle clear sessions and the W animation alone makes ganking more fun. Spammed this through my Diamond climb last season and never switched off. If you play Nunu & Willump at all, this is the one.
