First game I played with Fright Night Nunu & Willump was around 1 AM on a Tuesday. Loaded into a ranked match, locked it in, and my jungler immediately typed “what is that thing.” Willump looks like something crawled out of a Tim Burton movie and brought Nunu along for the ride. Honestly not gonna lie, the splash alone sold me before I even saw it in game.
What Fright Night actually changes
The whole model is a horror-carnival redesign. Willump becomes this stitched-together nightmare creature with exposed teeth and glowing eyes, and Nunu sits on top looking like a kid who wandered into the wrong haunted house and just went with it. The color palette leans into deep purples and sickly greens. Fits the Fright Night line perfectly.
New VFX across the board. The Q chomp has this ghoulish particle effect, almost like spectral teeth clamping down. W snowball gets replaced with something darker – rolls with a shadowy trail that looks genuinely creepy in the river at night. Kinda feels like Riot leaned harder into the horror angle on Nunu & Willump than they did on some other Fright Night skins from the same batch.
E snowballs throw out these little ghostly projectiles. Not a massive change visually but the color shift from icy blue to haunted green makes it read differently in teamfights. You can actually track it better against the Rift’s default terrain, which is a small gameplay clarity win. The R channel is where it gets good though. The zone fills with this swirling vortex of spectral energy, dark fog creeping outward. Been running this in Diamond and the ult zone genuinely makes enemies hesitate a half-second longer. Could be placebo but I’ll take it.
New recall animation too. Nunu & Willump do this little horror show bit that ties into the carnival theme. Base voice lines, no changes on the VO side. Standard for an Epic tier skin at this price point.
The Fright Night skinline and release context
Dropped September 25, 2024. Late into the season, right around the spooky-season window Riot loves to target. Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures the carnival horror vibe with Willump looming huge in the background while Nunu grins in front. Strong composition.
The Fright Night line has been one of Riot’s better thematic experiments. Started with champs like Draven and Trundle, expanded into more picks over time. Nunu & Willump fit the theme naturally because Willump already has that monster energy in his base design. The Fright Night treatment just cranks it to eleven. (Random aside: the Fright Night Trundle splash is still my desktop background, the whole line has incredible art direction.)
9 chromas total for this skin. Obsidian goes full dark mode and its probably the cleanest looking one for ranked – minimal visual noise. Tanzanite pushes the purple deeper which works with the horror theme. Ghoulish is the weird one, mixes green and gold in a way that shouldnt work but kind of does. Ruby exists, Catseye exists, standard fare. I keep coming back to Obsidian though. The dark colorway on Willump’s stitched-up body just reads better than base in my games.
Should you buy Fright Night Nunu & Willump?
Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, solid model redesign, a recall that actually has personality. Nunu & Willump have a decent skin catalog but most of their older options look dated. Space Groove is the main competitor and that one goes for a completely different vibe. If you want something darker for your jungle clear rotation, Fright Night is the pick.
Not sure if it’s just me but this skin makes the W ganks feel more intimidating. Something about a nightmare creature rolling at you from fog of war hits different than a happy yeti. Been maining Nunu & Willump with this since it dropped and I’ve played maybe 80 games across two patches. The VFX hold up, the model doesnt get old, and the chromas give you options if you want variety.
Skip this if you only play Nunu & Willump as a pocket pick once a month. But for jungle mains who have the boy and his yeti in regular rotation, this is top pick for Nunu & Willump mains. Shop has it, 1350 RP, grab the Obsidian chroma while you’re at it. Season 14 jungle meta has been kind to Nunu & Willump and this skin makes the grind a lot more enjoyable. Worth it.
