Space Groove Gragas

First game I played with Space Groove Gragas was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Locked him in jungle and immediately noticed the vibe shift. Gragas already has this goofy energy baked into his kit but slapping a disco funk aesthetic on top of that? Honestly not gonna lie, it works way better than it should. The whole skin leans into this 70s space party fantasy and Gragas fits it like he was born for the dance floor.

What Space Groove Gragas actually brings to the table

New VFX across the board. His Q barrel rolls out with these swirling cosmic particle trails, purples and pinks that pop against the Rift grass. The explosion on detonation has this groovy starburst effect. Clean read in teamfights which matters more than people think when youre trying to zone the backline with barrels during dragon contests.

W is where it gets fun. Gragas chugs from what looks like a glowing space cocktail and the self-buff aura pulses with rhythm. Kinda feels like the VFX team had a lot of fun with this one. His E body slam leaves a trail of sparkles and the impact has that satisfying cosmic crunch. R is the highlight though. The explosive cask detonation sends out these disco ball fragments in every direction. Threw one into baron pit last week and the visual chaos alone probably tilted their jungler.

(Random aside: the recall animation where Gragas busts out dance moves on a light-up floor might be the best recall in the entire Space Groove line.)

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for a 1350 RP Epic tier skin. The base Gragas voice still carries enough personality that it doesnt feel like a miss.

The Space Groove line and release context

Space Groove Gragas dropped November 17, 2022. Mid season 12. Rio Sabda and Caravan Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the disco energy perfectly in the splash. Gragas lounging with that cosmic drink, lights everywhere. Good stuff.

The Space Groove skinline is one of Riot’s more creative thematic sets. Been running since 2021 and keeps getting additions. Gragas joining the roster made sense because his character already has that party animal vibe. Compare him to something like Space Groove Lux or Nami and he still holds up. Different energy but equally committed to the theme.

8 chromas total. Tanzanite is my go-to, the deep purple reads as the most “space disco” of the bunch. Rainbow is flashy if you want to stand out in lane, gives the whole model this prismatic shift that catches the eye during ganks. Pearl cleans up the palette if the base colors feel too loud for you. Rest are solid but those three cover most preferences. Still in the shop, permanent availability, so no rush.

Is Space Groove Gragas worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong pickup for Gragas mains. Not the flashiest Epic skin ever made but the VFX work earns the price tag. Been spamming this in Diamond on jungle Gragas for maybe 30 games now and the abilities read well, the theme is fun, the recall is S-tier.

Could be wrong here but I think this edges out Warden Gragas and sits right behind Oktoberfest in the overall Gragas skin rankings. Oktoberfest has the nostalgia factor and the unique barrel model, hard to compete with that. But Space Groove Gragas brings the modern VFX quality that older skins just dont have. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Not overpriced, not a steal, just solid value.

Skip it if you only play Gragas as a counterpick once every 20 games. But if hes in your rotation, if you’re clearing camps with him regularly or running him mid in certain comps, this skin makes the experience better. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion feels in your hands. Been daily driving it since maybe two patches after release and keep coming back. Top pick for Gragas mains who want something that isnt a meme skin for once.
