First time I saw Gragas, Esq. in a loading screen I thought someone was trolling. Big dude in a pinstripe suit rolling barrels around the Rift. Took me maybe three games to realize this skin actually goes harder than it has any right to. Not gonna lie, there’s something about a suited-up Gragas body slamming your backline that just hits different in a teamfight.
The suited barrel roller
So what do you actually get here. Gragas trades his usual barbarian look for a full pinstripe suit, tie, and dress shoes. The barrel becomes this classy wooden cask. Whole vibe is old-school Crime City mobster who happens to weigh about 400 pounds.
The VFX got some love which surprised me for a 975 RP skin from 2011. His Q barrel roll has a slightly different tint, the W drink animation looks like hes sipping something expensive instead of cheap grog. E body slam in the suit is comedy gold honestly. Watching this absolute unit in formal wear charge through a minion wave never gets old. Been running this in Diamond for a couple seasons now and it still makes me laugh mid-lane phase.
Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Same old Gragas voice which honestly fits fine. The drunk businessman fantasy doesnt need new lines when “Happy hour” already works perfectly. No new recall animation either, standard for this era of skins. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly different with the cask, might just be placebo though.
Crime City origins and the 2011 release
Gragas, Esq. dropped April 12, 2011. Early League days. Part of the Crime City skinline back before Riot expanded it into the nightmare versions years later. The original Crime City set had this classic mafia aesthetic and Gragas fit right in as the enforcer type.
975 RP for the price tag. Standard tier. Shop has it, permanent availability so no vault hunting required. No splash artist credited in the data which tracks for older skins from that period. (Random aside: the splash art has aged way better than most 2011 splashes, something about the composition just works.)
The Crime City line eventually got skins for champions like Graves and Jinx, but Gragas, Esq. was one of the early entries. Kinda feels like Riot nailed the concept immediately with this one. Big guy, big suit, big barrel. Simple formula.
Should you pick up Gragas, Esq.?
Real verdict: this is one of the better comedy skins in the game for the price. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. Not the flashiest Gragas skin, sure. Warden and Space Groove exist for people who want more particle work. But Gragas, Esq. has personality that those skins cant match.
If you main Gragas or even just play him as a pocket pick for jungle clear or mid lane, this skin earns its spot in rotation. Last Saturday I had a game where I full combo’d their Yone under tower with this skin on and my duo said “the suit makes the E hit harder.” Obviously it doesnt. But it feels like it does.
Skip this if you need chromas or heavy VFX overhauls. Zero chromas available. But for Gragas one-tricks who want something with character over spectacle, this is the pick. Best value Gragas skin full stop. The Crime City fantasy plus Gragas is a combo that Riot stumbled into perfectly, and at 975 RP you’re not exactly breaking the bank. Lock it in.
