Santa Gragas

Been running this skin every December since like season 3 and honestly it never gets old. Santa Gragas is one of those holiday skins that just works because Gragas already looks like he belongs in a Santa outfit. Big belly, loves drinking, throws barrels around. The whole fantasy writes itself. First time I saw this in a ranked lobby back in 2014 I think, my support started spamming laugh emote before minions even spawned.

What Santa Gragas actually brings

So this is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP, which means you’re not getting a full overhaul. Base voice lines, no new recall animation. But the model swap is solid for the price point. Gragas gets the full red Santa suit with white fur trim, the hat, big black boots. His barrel becomes a present or gift-wrapped keg depending on how you look at it. Clean concept.

The VFX changes are what surprised me. His Q rolls out with a frosty holiday vibe, and the barrel explosion has some festive particle work that reads well on the Rift. Not gonna lie, for a skin from 2010 the visual updates hold up better than some 1350 RP skins I’ve seen recently. His W chug animation with the Santa outfit is peak comedy. Played maybe 40 games with this last December and the Q particles specifically caught my eye in teamfights around dragon pit.

Voice pack is base only. J.S. Gilbert’s Gragas voice fits the Santa vibe naturally though, so it doesnt feel like a miss. The deep laughs and burps work overtime here. Playing this skin, the whole package just comes together without needing custom VO.

Snowdown Showdown and the holiday vault

Santa Gragas dropped December 14, 2010. Early League days. Part of the Snowdown Showdown line, which is Riot’s annual winter event series. Some of the best legacy skins live in this skinline and Santa Gragas sits comfortably near the top.

Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it whenever. Typically shows up in the shop around December during the Snowdown event, or you might roll it from Hextech chests if you’re lucky. I got my second account copy from a reroll last Tuesday around 1 AM, was not expecting it at all (random aside: I’ve rerolled probably 300 skin shards total and this was only my second Snowdown drop ever).

No chromas available. Straight base Santa outfit. Kinda feels like Riot could add some, maybe a green elf variant or a blue frost version, but the classic red works fine on its own.

Should you pick up Santa Gragas?

Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The model is iconic, the VFX additions give it enough juice to not feel dated, and it’s genuinely funny to play. Best holiday Gragas skin full stop. Oktoberfest gets all the hype from Gragas mains but Santa holds its own for seasonal ranked grinding.

If you play Gragas jungle or mid and want something for the winter months, this is the pick. Could be wrong here but I think it reads better in game than the splash suggests. The splash art is serviceable, older style, but once you’re in lane throwing presents at people the charm kicks in hard. Skip it if you only play Gragas occasionally, but for mains who want the full collection this one earns its spot. Sits in the vault most of the year so grab it when Snowdown rolls around. Season 9 I think or 10 dont remember, but one year I bought it specifically for clash and my team went 3-0 with me on Gragas engage comp. Good memories with this one.
