Vandal Gragas

Been running Vandal Gragas on and off since season 3 and honestly its one of those skins that just feels right on him. The biker fantasy, the leather, the attitude. Gragas already has this rowdy energy in his base kit and the Vandal line leans into it hard. First time I saw the splash I thought yeah, thats the Gragas I want throwing barrels in my ranked games at 1 AM on a Wednesday.

What the Vandal skin actually changes

So this is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP, which means you’re not getting a full model overhaul or anything wild. But what you do get works. Gragas swaps out his default look for a full biker getup. Leather vest, spiked accessories, the whole deal. His barrel gets a makeover too, fits the rough aesthetic way better than the wooden cask from base.

The VFX got touched up which is nice for a skin at this price point. His Q barrel roll and R explosive cask read a bit differently on the Rift. Not gonna lie, the particles feel slightly heavier. Could be placebo but after maybe 40 games with it I swear the Q looks meatier when it lands in a teamfight. His W still has that satisfying chug animation and the E body slam connects with the same impact. Voice lines stay base, no new VO on this one.

No new recall animation either. Standard stuff. You press B, Gragas does his thing. For 975 RP in 2012 that was completely normal though. Might be overthinking it but I think the model alone carries this skin. The silhouette reads differently enough in lane that your opponent notices. Had a game last season where my ADC pinged the skin in champ select and typed “respect.” Small things.

The Vandal line and where this skin sits

Vandal Gragas released March 2, 2012. Early season 2 era. The Vandal skinline was one of Riot’s first thematic sets, putting champions in this post-apocalyptic biker gang fantasy. Gragas fits the vibe naturally. Big dude, loves drinking, breaks stuff. The line also includes Brand, Jax, Twitch, and Vladimir if I remember right.

No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which tracks for older skins. Riot wasnt always consistent about crediting artists back then. The splash itself holds up okay for its age. Gragas looking mean on a motorcycle, barrel in hand. Classic composition.

Zero chromas on this skin. None. Which is fine honestly, chromas on older Legacy skins would feel weird anyway. This is a Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it from the shop whenever you want. Sits in the vault and comes out during special events or you roll it from Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season which gives it that rare factor.

Should you pick up Vandal Gragas?

Real verdict: if you’re a Gragas main looking for something with personality that isnt Oktoberfest or Hillbilly, this is a solid pickup. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The biker theme works on Gragas better than on most of the other Vandal champions honestly.

(Random aside: I keep this skin in my rotation specifically for when I’m playing Gragas jungle and want to feel like I’m ganking with intent. Something about the leather vest energy.)

The downside is availability. Legacy catalog means you’re waiting for Riot to open the vault or praying to the Hextech gods. Not sure if it’s just me but that actually makes it more appealing. You lock in Vandal Gragas and people know you either been playing a while or you specifically hunted this down. Either way it says something about your commitment to the champ.

Skip it if you only play Gragas casually in ARAM or whatever. But for anyone who plays him in ranked, who knows the Q poke in lane, who lives for the flash R into backline play – Vandal is one of his better skins for the price. Top pick for Gragas mains who want something understated. Not flashy, not memey. Just a big dude with a barrel and a bad attitude. Kinda feels like that’s all you need on this champion.
