First time I saw Earnest Elf Tristana was back in like season 2, maybe season 3. Couldn’t tell you exactly. Someone on the enemy team locked in this tiny elf with a cannon and I genuinely thought it was a different champion for half the laning phase. Been playing League long enough that the old holiday skins hit different now. Nostalgia factor is real.

What you actually get for 520 RP

Straight talk: this is a texture swap. Earnest Elf Tristana gives her a full Christmas elf outfit, green and red with pointy shoes and a little hat. The cannon gets a holiday makeover too, wrapped up like it belongs under someone’s tree. No new VFX. Voice stays default. No recall animation because this skin predates custom recalls entirely.

For a Standard tier skin at 520 RP thats about what you’d expect. The model itself holds up okay considering it went through Tristana’s visual update. Riot cleaned up the proportions when they reworked her, so the elf costume actually looks decent on the current model. Not gonna lie, the color palette reads well on the Rift. Green and red pop against Summoner’s Rift terrain, especially in bot lane where the river contrast helps.

The splash art is vintage Riot. Old school style, simple composition. Tristana standing there looking festive. No dynamic pose, no cinematic lighting. It has charm though. (Random aside: old League splashes feel like trading cards from a game that doesnt exist anymore and I kind of love that.)

Snowdown Showdown and the Legacy vault

Earnest Elf Tristana dropped December 31, 2009. Right at the tail end of the first year League was live. Part of the Snowdown Showdown line, which was Riot’s original holiday event. Back then they’d release a handful of Christmas skins every year and rotate them into the Legacy vault after the event ended.

Sits in the vault now. You can sometimes grab it during the winter Snowdown shop or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Legacy catalog means it shows up maybe once a year if Riot decides to open the vault for the holidays. Could be wrong here but I think the last time they unlocked it was around December 2023. Seen maybe two of these in my Diamond games all of last season and one was probably someone who’s had the account since beta.

No chromas available. Riot doesn’t really go back and add chromas to skins this old, especially not 520 RP Legacy ones. The Snowdown Showdown line has some bangers in it like Winter Wonder Lulu and Snow Day Bard, but Earnest Elf is from the era before Riot figured out what holiday skins could be.

Should you pick this up?

Real verdict: Earnest Elf Tristana is a collector’s piece. Pure and simple. If you main Tristana and want every skin in the collection, this one matters. It’s a piece of League history from when the game had like 40 champions and skins cost less than a coffee.

520 RP feels fair for what you get. Model change, holiday theme, some nostalgia. But if you’re looking for the best Tristana skin to actually use in ranked, Dragon Trainer exists. Firefighter exists. This isn’t competing with those. Played a couple games with it last Tuesday around midnight just to see how it felt in modern League and honestly its fine for what it is. The elf hat during teamfights is funny. Your E landing on someone’s backline while you’re dressed as Santa’s helper has a specific energy to it.

Worth 520 RP if you main Tristana and catch it during a vault opening. Skip it if you’re looking for new particles or flashy effects. Kinda feels like buying a vintage jersey. You’re not wearing it for performance, you’re wearing it because you were there. Or wish you were.
