First time I saw Omega Squad Tristana in the loading screen I thought Riot finally nailed the military yordle fantasy. This isnt cute Tristana with a cannon painted green. This is a full on war-hardened version of her, and the splash alone had me locking it in before the game even started. Been running this skin in Diamond for a solid stretch and it just feels right on a marksman who’s already about blowing things up.

What Omega Squad actually changes on Tristana

The model is the obvious standout. Tristana gets tactical gear, night vision goggles pushed up on her forehead, and her cannon looks like something out of a military surplus catalog. The green camo palette works. Not flashy, not trying too hard. Just a yordle who’s seen some stuff on the Rift.

New VFX across the board here. Her E – Explosive Charge – plants this little military device on targets, and the detonation particles feel heavier than base. More debris, more impact. Q steroid has a subtle muzzle flash overlay that I think reads better in teamfights than the default. Could be wrong here but the auto attacks feel snappier with this skin, even though thats obviously placebo. W – Rocket Jump – leaves behind a green smoke trail instead of the usual burst, and the landing has this dust-kick effect that looks clean.

Recall animation is where the personality shines. She sets up a little camp, pulls out binoculars, does the whole recon routine. Fits the Omega Squad theme perfectly. Played maybe 150 games with this skin across two seasons and I still watch the full recall sometimes instead of canceling it.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Bit of a missed opportunity honestly. Would have loved some military callout lines, especially since Omega Squad Teemo got the full treatment. But for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, the visual package carries it.

The Omega Squad line and where Tristana fits

Omega Squad dropped July 26, 2017. Late season 7, right around the time everyone was spamming Ardent Censer bot lanes. Jem Flores handled the artwork, and the splash captures this intense jungle warfare vibe with Tristana front and center looking like she’s about to call in an airstrike.

The Omega Squad skinline is one of Riot’s more cohesive themes. Teemo was the original back in 2015, then they expanded it with Tristana, Veigar, Fizz, and Twitch all at once. The yordle squad plus Twitch as the token non-yordle. Kinda feels like Tristana is the most natural fit after Teemo though. She’s already a gunner, already has military energy in her base kit. The skin just leans into what’s already there.

(Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play any other Tristana skin and has been using this one exclusively since release. Seven years straight. That’s commitment.)

5 chromas available for this one. Obsidian is my go-to, the dark tactical look reads cleaner than base green in most lighting on Summoner’s Rift. Pearl gives her this arctic ops vibe that I think actually looks better than the default colorway. Citrine is fine if you want to stand out but it kind of breaks the military fantasy when you’re running around in bright gold camo. Still in the shop, 1350 RP, standard Epic pricing.

Should you buy Omega Squad Tristana?

Real verdict: this is a solid mid-tier pick in Tristana’s skin lineup. Not gonna lie, Dragon Trainer exists and that’s a Legendary with a whole baby dragon companion, so if you’re picking one Tristana skin ever, that’s probably it. But Omega Squad fills a completely different niche. Dragon Trainer is whimsical. Omega Squad is for when you want to feel like you’re actually in a war zone poking the enemy ADC under tower at 15 minutes.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, new VFX, new recall. The standard Epic package done well. Not groundbreaking but nothing feels cheap either. Last Tuesday I had a game where I W’d over a wall into their backline, got a triple kill, and the green smoke trail on the jump just made the whole play look cinematic. Small thing but it matters.

For Tristana mains who grind ranked, this is top three easily. Maybe top two depending on how you feel about Firefighter. Fair warning, if you’re someone who needs flashy particle effects to justify a purchase, this might feel understated. The military aesthetic is deliberately muted. That’s the point. Worth 1350 RP if you main Tristana and want something that matches the aggression of her kit without the cute factor. Skip it if you only play her as a pocket pick, there’s not enough here to justify it for occasional use.
