Pengu Cosplay Tristana

First time I saw this skin pop up in the shop I thought Riot was trolling. April 1, 2020 release date and Tristana running around in a penguin onesie? Had to double check it wasnt an April Fools joke that would vanish from my collection. Locked it in immediately. No regrets. Been running this as my default Tristana skin for ranked since season 10 and honestly the novelty still hasn’t worn off.

What Pengu Cosplay Tristana actually brings

So the whole concept is Tristana dressed up as Pengu, the little penguin emote mascot everyone spams in chat. She’s got the full suit on, waddling around bot lane looking ridiculous. The cannon gets a penguin themed redesign too, which I think is a nice touch because Riot could have been lazy about it.

New VFX across her abilities. Her W Rocket Jump leaves behind penguin themed particles on takeoff and landing. Solid change. Her E Explosive Charge has this cute fish-splatter effect when it detonates, ties into the whole arctic penguin theme. The Q Rapid Fire gets subtle ice blue tracers that read cleanly in teamfights without being distracting. Not gonna lie, the auto attack particles feel smoother than base Tristana to me, might be placebo but I swear my cs improved when I first switched.

The recall animation is where this skin really shines though. She does this whole penguin belly slide thing and it genuinely makes me smile every time. Been playing maybe 200 games with Pengu Cosplay Tristana and I still watch the full recall instead of tabbing out. That says something.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. Kinda feels like new voice lines would have pushed this into S-tier territory but I get it, budget constraints or whatever.

(Random aside: I use the Pengu emote exclusively when playing this skin. The synergy is too good to pass up.)

The Definitely Not line and release context

Pengu Cosplay Tristana sits in the Definitely Not skinline, which is one of Riot’s goofier collections. Same family as Definitely Not Blitzcrank and Definitely Not Vel’Koz. The whole premise is champions wearing bad disguises. Tristana pretending to be a penguin fits perfectly.

Horace ‘Hozure’ Hsu nailed the splash. The composition has Tristana mid-waddle with this determined look on her face, cannon slung over her shoulder, surrounded by actual penguins who look mildly confused. It captures the energy of the skin perfectly. Hozure consistently delivers on the fun skins.

Released April 1, 2020, right at the start of season 10. Could be wrong here but I think this dropped alongside a batch of other joke skins that patch. The timing made a lot of people dismiss it as temporary content. Still in the shop though, permanent availability. 1350 RP, standard Epic pricing.

6 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to because dark penguin just hits different in Diamond games, gives the whole thing a slightly more serious edge if thats even possible with this skin. Rose Quartz turns the onesie pink which is honestly adorable for the meme value, and Pearl goes full snow-white arctic penguin. The rest are fine but those three stand out to me after cycling through all of them over the past few seasons.

How it plays in ranked

Real talk though. There’s something about playing an ADC in a penguin costume that tilts the enemy bot lane. Had a game last week around midnight where the enemy Draven kept all-chatting about the skin instead of focusing on lane prio. Free wins.

Tristana mains specifically will appreciate how clean the ability VFX read in late-game teamfights. When you’re jumping into the backline with W and trying to burst someone down, you need particles that don’t obscure what’s happening. Pengu Cosplay Tristana keeps things visually clear. The E bomb timer is easy to track, the R knockback direction is obvious. Functional and funny.

Spammed this in Diamond for two full seasons before I even considered switching. Dragon Trainer Tristana gets more love from the community and I understand why, it’s a Legendary with way more features. But for 1350 RP? Pengu Cosplay Tristana punches above its weight. The personality alone carries it.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. If you main Tristana and you have any sense of humor, this is a must-own. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, great recall, six chromas to customize with. It doesn’t compete with Dragon Trainer on raw feature count but it doesn’t need to. Different vibe entirely.

Skip this if you want something serious or edgy for your Tristana. Omega Squad exists for that. But if you want to waddle into bot lane, blow someone up with a penguin cannon during a crucial teamfight at dragon, and then belly-slide back to base? Only one skin does that. Been daily driving Pengu Cosplay Tristana since season 10 and I keep coming back. Top pick for Tristana mains who dont take themselves too seriously.
