First time I saw this skin in champ select I actually laughed out loud. Not sure if it’s just me but there’s something about a giant Void tentacle monster wearing a trench coat and fake mustache that just hits different at 1 AM on a Tuesday. Vel’Koz trying to pass as human is the funniest concept Riot has put out for the Definitely Not line, and honestly the execution lands harder than most novelty skins at this price.

The disguise and what it changes

So lets be clear about what you’re getting here. This is a Standard tier skin at 750 RP. No new VFX on Q, W, E, or R. Voice lines stay base. No recall animation change. What you get is a full model swap, and honestly thats where the entire value lives.

Vel’Koz is wearing a brown trench coat buttoned up around his tentacles, a bowler hat sitting on top of his head, and a fake mustache. The glasses sell it. His tentacles poke out from underneath the coat and it looks ridiculous in the best possible way. Been running this in Diamond for a few seasons now when I want to tilt the enemy mid laner before the game even starts. The comedy factor alone has value.

In lane specifically, the model reads clean enough that you dont lose any gameplay clarity. His abilities still fire the same base particles, same colors, same hitbox visuals. The coat flaps around during movement which adds a nice touch. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I lock this skin because he says it breaks his focus from laughing.) Playing this skin, the W combo still feels snappy and the R beam looks the same as default.

Where Definitely Not Vel’Koz fits

Alvin Lee nailed the splash. Vel’Koz standing in what looks like a convenience store trying to buy groceries while everyone around him is terrified. Classic Definitely Not energy. The Definitely Not skinline is one of Riot’s oldest joke lines. Blitzcrank got one, Udyr got one. Vel’Koz fits the theme naturally because he’s the most alien-looking champion on the Rift trying the hardest to blend in.

Released March 31, 2016. Season 6 era. Kinda feels like Riot was in a good groove with humor skins back then. No chromas on this one which makes sense given the price point and the joke being so specific to the base color scheme.

Shop has it permanently. 750 RP is about as cheap as skins get these days outside of the 520 tier. For Vel’Koz mains who want something lighthearted between Arclight and Battlecast games, this fills that gap perfectly.

Should you buy it?

Real verdict: if you play Vel’Koz at all, this skin is a must-own at 750 RP. Best comedy skin in his pool. Spammed this in maybe 30 ranked games last month and got compliments in all chat at least four or five times. The lack of new VFX or voice filter keeps it from being a daily driver for me personally, I rotate back to Blackfrost or Arclight when I want the full package. But for the price point this is hard to argue against.

Real talk though, the skin does exactly one thing and does it well. Funny model, clean readability, cheap price. Could be wrong here but I think every Vel’Koz one-trick owns this already. If you’re picking up Vel’Koz for midlane poke comp or support, grab this as your second skin after whatever carries the better VFX. 750 RP well spent for mains who appreciate Riot’s sense of humor. Skip it only if you’re the type who needs flashy particles on every Q poke – this aint that skin.
