First time I saw Omega Squad Veigar load into my game I thought someone was running a custom skin. The little yordle in full tactical gear holding what looks like a detonator instead of a staff. Honestly not gonna lie, it caught me off guard in the best way. Veigar already has one of the most satisfying kits in the game for anyone who likes deleting people, and slapping military cosplay on him just makes the whole fantasy hit harder. Been running this in Diamond for a solid chunk of season 7 and beyond, and it still holds up years later.

What Omega Squad actually changes on Veigar

The model rework is the star here. Veigar goes from generic dark mage to this tiny commando yordle with night vision goggles pushed up on his helmet, full camo gear, and combat boots. The staff is replaced with some kind of remote detonator device. Clean redesign.

VFX got a proper overhaul for an Epic tier skin. His Q fires these green tracer rounds instead of the usual dark energy bolts. Looks sharp against the Rift, easy to track in lane. W calls down what feels like an airstrike marker, the circle on the ground has this military targeting reticle vibe before the hit lands. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last month and the W animation specifically feels more satisfying to land than base, something about the impact VFX reading cleaner.

E, the cage, shows up as this electric fence perimeter. Military checkpoint energy. Not sure if it’s just me but it actually feels slightly easier for enemies to misjudge the edges, which is a tiny psychological advantage in teamfights. Could be wrong here but I swear I catch more people walking into it with this skin on.

R is where it gets fun. The ult drops what looks like a missile strike on whatever poor backline squishy you’re targeting. The deletion fantasy goes from “dark magic nuke” to “orbital bombardment on a single target.” Banger. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the skin doesnt need it. The visual package carries.

The recall animation is Veigar pulling out a map, planning his next tactical operation. Short and sweet. Fits the theme without overstaying its welcome.

Omega Squad lineup and where Veigar fits

Jojo So nailed the splash on this one. Veigar standing in what looks like a war-torn jungle with explosions behind him, holding that detonator with way too much confidence for a yordle. The composition sells the “tiny but dangerous” angle perfectly.

Released July 26, 2017. Right in the middle of season 7. The Omega Squad skinline was already established with Teemo’s Legendary, and then Riot dropped a full squad: Fizz, Tristana, Twitch, and Veigar all at once. Of the batch, I think Veigar got the best treatment. The military theme maps onto his personality better than you’d expect. He’s already a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur, so making him a battlefield commander just works.

Three chromas available for this one. Sapphire swaps the green camo for blue tactical gear, kinda gives off UN peacekeeper energy. Tanzanite goes purple, which reads more like special ops at night. Catseye is the yellow variant, and real talk though, it makes Veigar look like a hazmat worker more than a soldier. I keep Sapphire in rotation personally. (Random aside: my duo partner calls the Tanzanite chroma “Barney with a gun” and I cant unhear it now.)

Context for Veigar mains shopping around

1350 RP. Standard Epic pricing. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault rotation to worry about. For Veigar’s skin catalog this sits comfortably in the upper half. Final Boss is the obvious comparison since thats his showcase Legendary, but Omega Squad offers something completely different in tone. Final Boss is the arcade power fantasy. Omega Squad is the gritty military one-trick energy.

If you’re a Veigar one-trick climbing through ranked, you probably want both eventually. But if you’re picking one Epic skin, Omega Squad competes with Astronaut and Elderwood. Astronaut leans cute, Elderwood leans fantasy. Omega Squad leans aggressive. Pick based on your vibe.

Been spamming Veigar in Diamond since around season 9 I think, and Omega Squad is still my go-to when I want to feel like every ult is a targeted drone strike. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I deleted a fed Katarina with R from fog of war and the airstrike VFX made it look like a war crime. Peak League experience.

Should you buy Omega Squad Veigar?

Verdict time. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, full VFX overhaul, custom recall, three chromas if you want variety. No new voice lines but thats expected at this price point. The Omega Squad theme translates surprisingly well to a yordle mage who wants to conquer the world.

Worth 1350 if you main Veigar. Skip it if you already own Final Boss and only play him occasionally. But for anyone who locks in Veigar regularly in solo queue and wants something that isn’t the default dark mage aesthetic, this skin delivers. The Q tracers and R missile alone justify the price for me. S-tier Veigar cosmetic, maybe just behind Final Boss overall but ahead of everything else in his catalog. Grab it next time you see it in your shop rotation or just hit the store directly. Permanent shop, always there.
