First time I saw Curling Veigar load into my game I thought someone was trolling. A tiny evil yordle sliding a curling stone down mid lane. Thats the whole concept and honestly it works way better than it should. Been running this skin on and off since maybe season 4, back when Legacy skins popped up in the shop around Snowdown and you just grabbed whatever looked funny.

What Curling Veigar actually changes

Real talk though, this is a 520 RP Standard tier skin from 2010. Expectations need adjusting. No new VFX on Dark Matter or Event Horizon. No new recall animation. Voice lines stay base. What you get is a full model swap: Veigar trades the wizard robes for a curling outfit complete with a broom and sliding stone. The hat situation changes too, more of a winter sports cap vibe than the classic pointy mage look.

The curling stone replaces his staff and it reads surprisingly well in game. Not gonna lie, the silhouette still looks distinctly Veigar which matters when you’re trying to land Q poke in lane or stack your passive off cs. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animation feels slightly different with the broom, might just be placebo from 200+ games on this skin.

For what doesnt change: abilities are all base particles. Dark Matter is still the same purple circle, Primordial Burst still looks like base Veigar ult. No VO refresh. At this price point and this era of skin design that’s completely expected. Riot wasnt doing ability VFX on anything below 975 RP back then.

Winter Sports and the 2010 release window

Curling Veigar dropped February 12, 2010. Deep into season 1 territory. Part of the Winter Sports skinline alongside skins like Curling and Ice Toboggan Corki. The Winter Sports line is one of those early thematic sets Riot did where the concept was pure comedy. No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which tracks for that era of skin production.

Legacy vault skin. You cant just walk into the shop and buy Curling Veigar whenever you want. Hextech only these days, or you wait for one of those rare Legacy sales Riot does maybe once a year. Seen maybe 3 of these in my Diamond games all season, which honestly adds to the appeal. (Random aside: the loading screen card for this skin always gets someone in lobby chat asking what it is.)

No chromas available. Zero. Given the skin’s age and Legacy status thats not surprising. Riot doesn’t typically go back and add chroma packs to vault skins from 2010.

Should you grab Curling Veigar?

520 RP is the asking price if it ever rotates back. Cheap. The Winter Sports concept is genuinely funny and Veigar mains who one-trick the little guy tend to collect every skin anyway. Might be overthinking it but I think the comedy factor gives this skin more personality than half the 975 RP options Veigar has.

If you’re climbing ranked and want the cleanest Veigar experience, Final Boss or Astronaut Veigar are better picks with actual new VFX and sounds. But if you’ve been spamming Veigar in Diamond and want something nobody else runs? Curling Veigar hits different. Last Tuesday I dropped a five-man Event Horizon in dragon pit and the enemy Katarina typed “did I just get stunned by a curling broom” in all chat. Worth it for moments like that alone.

Not the best Veigar skin for competitive feel. S-tier Veigar cosmetic for vibes and rarity though. If you roll it from a chest, keep it. 520 RP well spent for mains who want the full collection and something unique in the loading screen.
