First time I saw Leprechaun Veigar in a loading screen I thought someone was trolling. Little green hat, the whole Irish getup on a tiny yordle dark mage. Honestly not gonna lie, it grew on me after like three games. There’s something about dropping a massive cage on someone’s head while dressed like you belong at a St. Patrick’s Day parade that just hits different.
What Leprechaun Veigar actually changes
For a 520 RP skin this one punches above its weight. Veigar gets a full leprechaun outfit with the classic green top hat, a matching green robe, and his staff gets swapped out for something that looks like a shillelagh. The model is clean for how old it is. Released March 15, 2011, so we’re talking early League here, and the proportions still hold up after Veigar’s visual update.
The VFX are where it gets interesting. Your Q shoots little green particles, your W drops what I think are supposed to be gold coins or clovers raining down. Hard to tell in a teamfight but the color shift from base purple to green is noticeable. Been running this in Diamond and the green E cage actually reads slightly differently than base, which threw off a Katarina I was laning against last Wednesday. She walked straight into it. Could be wrong here but I think the color change genuinely messes with people who autopilot against Veigar.
Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which is expected at this price point. No new recall animation either, standard Veigar backing. The skin does what it needs to do visually and doesnt overpromise.
The Fables line and some context
Leprechaun Veigar sits in the Fables skinline. Not one of Riot’s biggest thematics but it has charm. The whole fairy tale and folklore angle works naturally for Veigar since he’s already this tiny mage with delusions of grandeur. Slapping a leprechaun costume on him is almost too perfect.
Back in March 2011 when this dropped, 520 RP skins were the bread and butter of the shop. No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which tracks for that era. (Random aside: the splash art is genuinely funny though, Veigar sitting on a pot of gold looking menacing is peak early League energy.) Shop has it permanently, so you can grab it whenever. No vault nonsense, no loot gambling. Straight purchase.
Should you lock in Leprechaun Veigar?
Real verdict: for 520 RP this is one of the better budget Veigar options. You get model changes plus green VFX on a champion where ability visuals matter for your lane prio and zoning game. I played maybe 40 games with it last season before rotating back to Final Boss, and the only reason I switched was because I wanted the Legendary voice lines for spamming emote in lane.
If you’re climbing on Veigar and dont want to drop 1820 on Final Boss or grind for Omega Squad, Leprechaun is the budget pick. Zero chromas available so what you see is what you get. No customization. Kinda feels like the skin doesn’t need it though. The green theme is strong enough on its own. Veigar one-tricks in my games always seem to rotate between this and Bad Santa depending on the season. 520 RP well spent for mains, skip it if you only play Veigar as a counterpick in specific comps. Simple change – huge impact for the price.
