Muse Sona

First time I saw Muse Sona in a loading screen I thought someone was running default. Had to squint. The color shift is subtle but once you notice it, the skin has its own identity that separates it from base Sona pretty cleanly. Been playing Sona on and off since season 2 and this one holds a weird nostalgic spot for me.

What Muse Sona actually brings to the table

So the big thing here is the outfit redesign. Sona trades her blue and gold aesthetic for this white and teal look that leans into the classical muse fantasy. The etwahl gets a visual refresh too, lighter tones, more of an ancient Greek instrument vibe. Fits the Fables skinline direction perfectly.

The VFX got some love which honestly surprised me for a 975 RP Standard tier skin from 2010. Her Q poke particles shift to match the new color palette. Not gonna lie, the teal aura on her W heal is cleaner than base in my opinion. Could be wrong here but I think the passive aura rings read better in teamfights because of the contrast against the Rift’s green tones.

Voice lines stay base. Erin Fitzgerald’s VO carries through unchanged, which is expected at this price point. No new recall animation either, so you’re getting the standard Sona recall. For what its cool though, the visual package alone does enough. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion reads in lane.

Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season in Diamond and the auto attack animation feels identical to base. Some Sona mains swear certain skins have smoother autos but I think thats placebo. The Q proc looks slightly different with the lighter particles and I actually prefer it for tracking whether my empowered auto is up in bot lane specifically.

The Fables line and where Muse Sona fits

Released September 21, 2010. Early League days. The Fables skinline is one of Riot’s smaller thematic collections and Muse Sona represents the Greek muse archetype within it. Season 1 era skin design was a different world compared to what Riot ships now.

975 RP price tag. Standard tier. For a skin from 2010 that actually got VFX work, I think thats fair. Most skins from this era were pure texture swaps and nothing else. Muse Sona at least tried.

This one sits in the Legacy vault so you cant just grab it whenever. Vault rotation skin, meaning you either wait for a Legacy sale event or hope to roll it from Hextech crafting. (Random aside: I got mine from a reroll back in like season 9 I think or 10 dont remember, felt like finding a rare drop in an MMO.) Seen maybe 5 of these in my ranked games all season which makes sense given the vault status.

Should you care about Muse Sona?

Real verdict: this is a collector’s skin. Best Sona skin? Not even close. Sona has bangers like DJ Sona and Star Guardian that blow this out of the water in terms of production value. But Muse Sona has a simplicity that works. Clean design, no visual clutter, and the teal palette pops during late-game teamfights when there’s already too much going on screen.

If you’re a Sona one-trick who wants every skin in the collection, keep an eye on Legacy vault openings. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I was browsing the shop during one of those events and skins like this fly under the radar while everyone chases the flashier Legacy options. Worth 975 RP if you main Sona and want something understated. Skip this if you only plan to own one or two Sona skins because Odyssey and Star Guardian exist. Kinda feels like the definition of a “nice to have” rather than a must-buy. For Sona mains who’ve been climbing with her for years though, the nostalgia factor alone carries it.
