Prestige Immortal Journey Sona

Not gonna lie, the first time I saw Prestige Immortal Journey Sona load into a game on my team, I thought it was a custom skin mod. The gold detailing on the etwahl looked unreal. Sona already has one of the cleanest silhouettes in the game for a support, and this Prestige version turns it up in a way that actually feels earned. Been playing Sona on and off since season 7, mostly as a pocket pick when my main support gets banned, and this skin made me lock her in way more during late 2023.

What the Prestige version actually changes

So the base Immortal Journey Sona is already solid. Good skin. But the Prestige takes the color palette and shifts everything toward this warm gold and white scheme that reads completely different on the Rift. The outfit trades the darker tones for a celestial ivory look with intricate golden embroidery running through the fabric. Gorgeous stuff.

VFX got the full treatment here. Her Q sends out these shimmering golden notes that trail light particles behind them. Looks clean in lane when you’re poking. The W heal aura pulses with this soft radiant glow – actually easier to see than base Immortal Journey, which helps your ADC know when they’re getting healed. Could be wrong here but I think the E movement trail is the best part visually. Leaves behind these fading golden wisps that make roaming through river feel cinematic.

Her R is where it peaks though. The crescendo wave carries this massive golden energy burst that spreads across the screen. Hit a 4-man ult in a teamfight last September around midnight and my duo literally said “what was that” because the VFX just dominated the screen. Beautiful execution. The recall animation fits the Immortal Journey fantasy perfectly – Sona meditating with the etwahl floating around her, golden particles ascending. No new voice lines, standard VO, but honestly thats fine because the visual package carries everything.

Worth noting the auto attack animations have that golden particle trail too. Small detail. Makes csing during lane phase feel smoother even though nothing mechanically changed.

The Immortal Journey line and release context

Prestige Immortal Journey Sona dropped August 16, 2023. Mid-season 13. The Immortal Journey skinline is one of Riot’s more elegant thematic sets – wuxia-inspired, flowing robes, celestial weaponry. Sona fits the line naturally because her whole champion identity revolves around grace and music. Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the splash, they captured the vibe perfectly.

The Immortal Journey roster includes some bangers across the board. Zed, Zeri, Shyvana all got skins in the line at various points. Sona’s Prestige stands out because the gold transformation actually complements the eastern fantasy aesthetic instead of fighting it. Some Prestige skins feel like “we made it gold because Prestige” but this one integrates the palette shift into the theme. Real talk though, the splash art alone is phone wallpaper material (random aside: it was my phone wallpaper for like three months after release).

Mythic tier pricing on this one. Special acquisition through the Mythic shop rotation. No chromas available, which makes sense for a Prestige skin. Available now through the Mythic essence system. If you’re sitting on Mythic essence and main Sona, this is one of the better ways to spend it.

How it plays in Diamond games

Spammed this in Diamond for maybe 40 games after picking it up. The VFX clarity is genuinely good for competitive play. Some skins look amazing but muddy your ability reads in teamfights. Not the case here. Your Q poke is visible, your W heal radius is clear, your E speed boost trail helps teammates follow your engage or disengage calls. Played a game where my Kayn kept following the E trail into river for ganks and said the golden path made it obvious where to go. Might be overthinking it but I think readable VFX on a support skin actually matters for coordinated play.

The R visual is flashy without being distracting to your own team. Big golden wave, clear hitbox read, clean animation. Pre-6 laning feels the same as any Sona skin obviously, but post-6 when you’re looking for flash R engages in the backline, the skin just hits different.

Should you grab Prestige Immortal Journey Sona?

Straight talk: this is arguably the best Sona skin if you can only own one. The Prestige treatment elevates what was already a strong base concept. DJ Sona exists as the Ultimate tier option and yeah it has more features, but Prestige Immortal Journey Sona looks cleaner and more cohesive as a complete package. Been daily driving this over Star Guardian and Odyssey for months now.

The Mythic pricing means you cant just impulse buy it for RP. You need to plan your Mythic essence spending. If you’re a Sona one-trick or even someone who plays her regularly in ranked, this should be priority. If you play Sona maybe twice a season, probably save your essence for a champion you actually main. The skin is top tier Sona cosmetic design but Mythic essence isnt free. For mains though? First choice, no question. The golden VFX, the refined Immortal Journey aesthetic, the splash by Francis Tneh and West Studio – the whole package delivers. S-tier Sona cosmetic and I dont see Riot topping it anytime soon (season 9 I think was when I started collecting Sona skins, or 10 dont remember, and nothing has come close to this level of polish since).
