Odyssey Sona

First time I saw Odyssey Sona load in, I thought Riot finally figured out how to make Sona look like she belongs in a sci-fi universe without making it feel forced. The whole space explorer vibe just clicks. Been running this in Diamond for a while now, and honestly not gonna lie, it might be the smoothest Sona skin to play with from a pure visual clarity standpoint. The VFX read clean in teamfights, which matters more than people think when you’re trying to peel for your ADC and track cooldowns at the same time.

What Odyssey Sona actually brings to the table

So for 1350 RP you’re getting the full Epic treatment. New model, new VFX on all abilities, and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no changes there. The Q aura pulses with this orange-gold energy that pops against the Rift’s darker areas. W shield has a distinct teal shimmer that makes it easy to tell apart from Q in the middle of a chaotic engage.

The E speed boost trail is where it gets interesting. Leaves behind these little cosmic particles that fade out behind your team. Kinda feels like you’re actually propelling people through space. Her passive auto-attack proc carries the sci-fi theme too, with a satisfying energy burst on hit.

Recall animation has Sona playing her etwahl and opening some kind of star map. Short, clean, no filler. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last month in bot lane specifically and the recall never got old, which I cant say about every Epic tier skin.

Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attack animation feels slightly crisper than base Sona. Might be placebo. Might not be. Either way the whole kit reads well in lane and in late-game teamfights where you’re spamming W and trying to ult the backline.

The Odyssey line and release context

Odyssey Sona dropped September 12, 2018. Season 8. That whole Odyssey event was one of Riot’s better PvE experiments before they moved on to other things. Sona fit the crew naturally as the support archetype.

Kelly Aleshire nailed the splash. The composition puts Sona front and center with the etwahl radiating energy, crew visible in the background. It captures the space opera tone without going overboard.

The Odyssey skinline includes some heavy hitters like Odyssey Kayn and Odyssey Yasuo. Sona holds her own in the set though. Real talk though, I think the color palette on Odyssey Sona is more cohesive than half the other Odyssey skins. The warm golds against the deep space blues work. (random aside: I used the splash as my Discord banner for like three months straight back in season 9 I think or 10 dont remember)

6 chromas total. Tanzanite is my pick, the deep purple recolors the VFX in a way that reads almost Legendary. Obsidian goes dark and moody if thats your vibe. Rose Quartz softens everything into pastels which some Sona mains swear by. The rest are fine but those three carry the chroma set.

Who should pick up Odyssey Sona

Should you buy it? If you main Sona and want something that isn’t the default fantasy theme, this is your skin. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX clarity alone makes it worth considering for ranked. Had a game last Tuesday around 2 AM where I landed a five-person ult in dragon pit and the golden crescendo VFX just looked right.

Compared to other Sona options, I’d put this above Arcade Sona for pure gameplay feel but below DJ Sona obviously since thats an Ultimate. Star Guardian Sona is the main competition at the same price point. Different vibes entirely. Star Guardian leans cute, Odyssey leans cool.

Skip this if you already own DJ Sona and dont care about variety. But for climbing on Sona specifically, the visual clarity of Odyssey gives you a small edge in reading your own abilities during messy comp fights. Permanent shop availability, so no rush. Worth 1350 if you main Sona. Top pick for Sona mains who want something with an edge to it.
