First time I saw Odyssey Ziggs load into my game I thought someone was playing a different champion entirely. The whole silhouette shifts with this one. Ziggs goes from his usual Zaun gremlin energy to full space pirate territory, and honestly the transition works way better than it has any right to. Locked this in during a late night session back in September 2018 and didnt look back for months.
How Odyssey Ziggs plays different
The bombs. Thats what you notice first. Every Q you throw out has this orange-gold plasma effect that pops against the Rift in a way base Ziggs never does. The bouncing bomb trail leaves behind these little energy wisps that actually make it easier to track where your poke is landing. Could be wrong here but I think the Q hitbox reads cleaner with this skin just because the VFX contrast is sharper.
W detonation has a proper sci-fi burst to it. The satchel charge looks like a miniature warp drive, and when it goes off there’s this concentric ring explosion. Clean. E mines scattered across a chokepoint glow with that Odyssey gold-and-teal palette, and in teamfights they create this carpet of space debris that looks intimidating even if the enemy ADC walks right through them.
R is the showpiece though. Mega Inferno Bomb comes down looking like a meteor from another galaxy. The impact zone has these swirling energy particles that linger for a second after detonation. Been spamming this in Diamond ranked and I can tell you the ult VFX genuinely makes enemies sidestep harder. Placebo or not, I’ll take it. The recall animation puts Ziggs on this little spacecraft contraption where he’s fiddling with controls before it all blows up in his face. Classic Ziggs energy translated into the Odyssey universe perfectly.
No new VO unfortunately. Voice lines stay base, which is a minor letdown since the Odyssey event had such strong lore potential. But the sound effects on abilities are completely reworked with these techy detonation sounds that fit the space theme. Simple change – huge impact on how the kit feels.
The Odyssey event and where this skin fits
Odyssey dropped September 12, 2018. Season 8. The whole Odyssey skinline was one of Riot’s more ambitious event pushes, came with that PvE game mode that I played maybe 23 games in a row one weekend. Ziggs was part of the crew alongside Kayn, Jinx, Malphite, Sona, and Yasuo. The skinline lore had them as a ragtag space crew, and Ziggs filled the demolitions expert role. Fits his personality perfectly.
Jem Flores handled the artwork on the splash. They captured the vibe perfectly, Ziggs mid-explosion with that manic grin, debris flying everywhere against a deep space backdrop. The composition puts him dead center with enough chaos around him to sell the fantasy. (Random aside: this splash was my Discord avatar for like three months straight.)
This is a Legacy vault skin now so you cant just grab it from the shop whenever. Sits in the vault, comes out during special events or you can roll it from Hextech crafting. At 1350 RP when it was available, it’s standard Epic tier pricing. For what you get – full VFX overhaul, new recall, new SFX – the price point feels fair.
6 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my pick, turns the whole palette dark and makes Ziggs look like he’s running black ops in deep space. Aquamarine gives him this cool ice-blue energy that reads well against most map skins. Rose Quartz exists too but kinda feels like it clashes with the space pirate vibe. Real talk though, most of the chromas are solid picks here.
Should you pick up Odyssey Ziggs?
Okay, the real question. If you main Ziggs mid or play him APC bot lane, this is one of his better skins. Not gonna lie, I think it competes with Master Arcanist for his best overall. The VFX clarity is genuinely useful in lane, especially when you’re poking under tower or zoning off cs with E mines.
The Odyssey line ages well too. Might be overthinking it but the sci-fi aesthetic doesn’t feel dated the way some 2018 skins do. Compare it to something like Pool Party Ziggs which is fun but reads as a novelty after a while. Odyssey has that everyday ranked skin energy where you dont get tired of it after 50 games.
Main issue is availability. Since it’s Legacy, you’re either waiting for a vault opening or hoping Hextech crafting blesses you. If you see it pop up in Your Shop or during an event sale, grab it. 1350 RP well spent for Ziggs mains. Not sure if it’s just me but I’ve seen maybe 4 or 5 of these in my games all season, so you’ll stand out from the usual Snow Day and Arcanist picks that everyone else runs.
Skip it if you’re not committed to Ziggs. But if you’re a one-trick or even just have him in your mid lane rotation for when you need safe waveclear and poke, Odyssey is the skin. S-tier Ziggs cosmetic, held back only by the vault lock.
