Snow Day Ziggs

First time I saw Snow Day Ziggs in a loading screen I thought it was a custom skin someone modded in. Snowballs instead of bombs. The whole concept is so simple it loops back around to being genius. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and it still holds up better than some 1350 RP skins Riot puts out now.

Snowballs, sleds, and everything that changes

So the big thing here is VFX. Every single one of Ziggs’ abilities gets the winter treatment. His Q throws a packed snowball instead of a bouncing bomb. Chunky, round, satisfying. The W is a snow mound that pops enemies up, and his E scatters little snowballs across the ground like landmines at a snowball fight. His R drops a massive snowball from the sky. Watching it arc across the Rift and land on someone’s head in a teamfight never gets old.

Not gonna lie, for a 975 RP Standard tier skin from 2012 this is generous. Most skins at that price point back then gave you a texture swap and called it a day. Snow Day Ziggs got custom particles on every ability plus a unique recall where he builds a little snowman. The recall animation alone puts it above half the skins in that price bracket.

Voice lines stay base. No filter, no new VO. Thats expected at this tier and honestly Ziggs’ default voice is already so energetic it fits the snow theme without any changes. The base sound effects are swapped though, you get that soft crunch on ability impacts instead of the usual explosion sounds. Subtle but it makes the whole package feel cohesive.

(Random aside: I used this skin exclusively during the 2023 Snowdown event and my duo kept saying the snowballs were harder to see against the winter map. Placebo or not, I’ll take it.)

The Snow Day line and when this dropped

Snow Day Ziggs released December 14, 2012. Right in the middle of season 2 preseason if I remember right. James Strehle did the splash and honestly captured the vibe perfectly. Ziggs sitting on a pile of snowballs looking absolutely unhinged. Classic.

The Snow Day skinline is one of Riot’s cozier themes. Ziggs was one of the earlier entries alongside Malzahar and Singed I think, or maybe that was later. Could be wrong here but I believe Ziggs was the first Snow Day skin period. The line eventually grew to include Bard, Gnar, Syndra, Graves. Solid roster. Ziggs fits the theme better than any of them though because his entire kit is about throwing things. Snowballs instead of bombs is the most natural reskin possible.

No chromas on this one. Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever you want. Gotta wait for the vault to open or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 3 of these in my games all season which is a shame because it deserves more play.

Should you pick up Snow Day Ziggs?

Real verdict: this is the best budget Ziggs skin. 975 RP when it shows up in the Legacy pool and you’re getting custom VFX on every ability plus a unique recall. Compare that to base Ziggs or even some of the newer options and Snow Day holds its own. Might be overthinking it but I think the simplicity is what makes it work so well. Snowballs read cleanly, the color palette pops against Summoner’s Rift, and the recall is charming without being over the top.

If you main Ziggs and dont have this one, keep an eye on the vault rotation. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. I’d rank it just below Odyssey and Master Arcanist in the Ziggs skin tier list but above everything else. For mains who like spamming Q in lane and poking from a screen away, the snowball Q is genuinely satisfying to cs with. Last Tuesday I played six ranked games straight with this skin and every single Q felt crisp. Skip this only if you already own one of his Legendary-tier options, otherwise its a must-have for any Ziggs one-trick climbing through Diamond.
