Snow Day Malzahar

First time I saw Snow Day Malzahar loading in, I thought someone was trolling. Malzahar in a winter parka throwing snowballs. Took me a second. Then the voidlings came out as little poros and honestly I wasnt even mad anymore. This skin has no right being as charming as it is on a champion known for pressing R and watching someone slowly question their life choices.

What Snow Day Malzahar actually changes

So the whole void prophet aesthetic gets tossed out the window. Malzahar is bundled up in a blue winter coat with a scarf, goggles pushed up on his forehead. Looks like he’s about to go sledding, not drain your health bar. The Q sends out a burst of snow and ice particles instead of the usual void energy. Clean effect, reads well in lane. The E feels similar but has this frosty trail that sticks to targets. Subtle change but it keeps the winter theme consistent.

W is where it gets fun. Poro voidlings. Tiny little poros waddle around doing your bidding. Been running this in ranked during December for years and people still ping the poros. Every time. The ult tethers with snowflake particles, which looks cool but I think the base ult VFX actually reads scarier in a teamfight. Not gonna lie, suppressing someone with sparkly snow doesnt hit the same as void beams.

The recall animation has Malzahar building a little snowman. Simple, cute, fits the skin. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at 975 RP. Standard tier pricing for what is honestly a solid package of visual changes.

Snow Day line and release context

Snow Day Malzahar dropped December 15, 2014. Right in the middle of the holiday patch that season. The Snow Day skinline is one of Riot’s cozier themes. You got Snow Day Bard, Snow Day Syndra, Snow Day Gnar in the same universe. Malzahar fits the vibe better than you’d expect for a void mage.

There’s 1 chroma available, Golden. It swaps the blue coat palette to a warm gold tone. Kinda feels like a prestige version of the skin without the prestige price tag. I actually prefer the base blue colorway for the winter feel but the Golden chroma pops harder on the Rift, especially against the green terrain in bot lane specifically.

This one sits in the Legacy pool, so you cant just grab it any time. Comes back around during Snowdown events or you get lucky with Hextech crafting. Saw maybe two of these in my games all of last season. (Random aside: the poro voidlings alone make this worth rerolling skin shards for.)

Is Snow Day Malzahar worth 975 RP?

Real verdict: for a Standard tier skin at 975 RP, Snow Day Malzahar delivers. New VFX on abilities, the poro voidlings, a solid recall animation. You’re not getting new voice lines or a model overhaul on the level of a Legendary, but nobody expects that at this price point.

Could be wrong here but I think this is a top three Malzahar skin. Played it last Tuesday around 2 AM in a Diamond game and my support literally typed “poro diff” in all chat when the voidlings spawned. The skin has personality. If you main Malzahar and you see this pop up during a vault rotation or in your loot, lock it in. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The Golden chroma is a nice bonus but not essential. Skip it unless you really hate blue.

Spammed this in Diamond during preseason 5 when it first came out. Still rotate it into my Malzahar games during winter months. Might be overthinking it but there’s something about matching your skin to the season that just hits different. Worth the RP for mains, worth a reroll for anyone else.
