First game I played with Snow Day Syndra was a late-night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Picked her into some poke comp and the second I dropped Q in lane I just sat there for a second. Snowballs. Syndra is throwing actual snowballs. Not gonna lie, it caught me off guard even though I knew what the skin was. Something about seeing it in motion on the Rift hits different than the splash preview. The whole vibe shifts from dark sovereign to winter playground and I think thats exactly what Riot was going for with the Snow Day line.
What Snow Day Syndra actually changes
So the core of this skin is the VFX rework on Syndra’s spheres. Every dark sphere becomes a packed snowball, and the Q placement has this nice frost particle burst on impact. Her W picks up a snowball and chucks it with a small snow trail. Clean animation. E scatters them with a frosty shockwave that reads well in teamfights, which matters because Syndra’s whole kit revolves around tracking sphere positions during engages.
The R is the highlight. Syndra launches a barrage of snowballs at the target and each one has individual frost particles on contact. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in Diamond last season and the ult never got old visually. Could be wrong here but I think the snowball impacts feel slightly more satisfying than base, like there’s a crunchier visual feedback on each hit. Might be placebo.
Her recall animation is where the personality lives. Syndra builds a little snowman using her telekinetic powers, levitating the pieces into place. Cute touch. Standard voice lines, no new VO, which is expected at the Epic tier for a 2015 release. The model swap puts Syndra in a winter coat with fur trim and a scarf, plus earmuffs. She looks cozy. The outfit design leans into the casual winter aesthetic without losing the floating-mage silhouette that makes Syndra recognizable from across the lane.
(Random aside: I used the recall animation to BM after solo killing a Zed once and my jungler pinged me like 14 times. Worth it.)
The Snow Day line and where this skin fits
Snow Day Syndra released December 10, 2015. Right in that holiday patch window. Kelly Aleshire did the splash, and the composition is solid. Syndra floating above a snowy landscape with spheres orbiting her, big scarf energy. The color palette is cool blues and whites with warm accents from the outfit, works well as a loading screen piece.
The Snow Day skinline is one of Riot’s recurring winter themes. Syndra shares it with Bard, Malzahar, Gnar, Graves, Ziggs. It’s a lighter tone than Snowdown or Winterblessed. More “snow day off school” than “ancient winter god.” Syndra fits the line better than you’d expect given her lore as this power-obsessed mage. The contrast between her personality and the playful snowball VFX is part of the charm honestly.
No chromas on this one. Zero. For a 1350 RP Epic skin from 2015 that tracks, chromas werent really standard back then. It does limit your options though. You get the blue and white color scheme and that’s it. Been maining Syndra with this on and off since season 6 and a darker winter variant would have been nice. Like an icy black chroma or something. But Riot never went back to add them.
Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it any time. Sits in the vault and comes out during winter events or shows up in Your Shop occasionally. I got mine from a Snowdown sale back in 2017 I think. If you want it, keep an eye out around December or try your luck with Hextech crafting.
Is Snow Day Syndra worth the 1350 RP?
Real talk though. 1350 RP for Snow Day Syndra is fair for what you get. New particles on every ability, solid recall, good model. The VFX are thematically consistent and read cleanly in lane and in teamfights. For mid lane Syndra mains who want something lighter than her darker skins like Atlantean or Withered Rose, this fills that niche.
The competition in Syndra’s skin catalog is real though. Star Guardian exists. Coven exists. Both have more going on visually. Been playing ranked this season and I rotate between Snow Day and Coven depending on mood. Snow Day comes out when I’m feeling less tryhard, more vibes. Coven for the serious climbing sessions.
Where I’d rank it: mid-tier in the Syndra lineup. Not her best skin full stop, but a comfortable pick with personality. The snowball VFX on Q spam in lane is genuinely fun and after 200+ games it still makes me smile when I proc Electrocute with a snowball to the face. Skip it if you already own Star Guardian or Coven and only play Syndra occasionally. But if you’re a Syndra one-trick, this belongs in your rotation for the winter months at minimum. The legacy availability means you might wait a while to get it, so if it pops up in Your Shop or during Snowdown, dont sleep on it. 1350 RP well spent for mains who want the full collection.
