First time I saw Justicar Syndra in a loading screen I thought someone modded their client. Back in September 2012, Syndra had just dropped and this was her first alternate skin. The gold and white palette felt so far removed from her base dark sovereign look that it almost read like a different champion. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and honestly the VFX shift alone makes it worth talking about.
The visual overhaul on Justicar Syndra
So the big thing here is the VFX. Syndra’s dark purple spheres go full golden-white, and in teamfights thats actually a meaningful change. Her Q drops these bright orbs that pop against the Rift’s green, and the W grab-and-throw reads way cleaner than base. Could be wrong here but I think the E stun is slightly easier to track for your teammates because of the lighter particle color. Not a competitive advantage or anything, just a visual clarity thing I noticed after maybe 50 games.
The model swap goes from purple-black robes to this angelic white and gold armor look. Justicar Syndra feels like she switched factions entirely. Her recall is the same base animation though. No new voice lines either, voice stays default. For a 975 RP Standard tier skin released in 2012, new VFX without a recall change was pretty normal.
One thing that bugs me slightly: the orbs hovering around her can blend into certain terrain. Specifically around dragon pit and baron area where the lighting gets warm. Minor gripe. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play against this skin because he says the Q is harder to see on his monitor settings, which I find hilarious.)
Justicar line and where this skin sits
The Justicar skinline is tiny. Just Syndra and Aatrox. Released September 12, 2012, this was early Riot exploring the “divine champion” fantasy before Arclight took over that space entirely. Kinda feels like the Justicar line got abandoned for Arclight which did the same gold-and-white thing but across way more champions.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Which tracks for 2012 releases since chromas werent a thing yet, and Riot never went back to add them. 975 RP and still in the shop. Permanent availability. For Syndra mains who want something different from the base look without dropping 1350 on a newer Epic skin, this fills that gap.
Played this in a Diamond ranked game last Wednesday where I was mid against a Katarina one-trick. The golden spheres scattered across the lane during a level 6 all-in looked genuinely clean. Landed the full Q-Q-Q-E-W-R combo and the kill screen was just gold everywhere. Beautiful stuff.
Should you pick up Justicar Syndra?
Real verdict: Justicar Syndra is a solid budget option. Not gonna lie, the newer Syndra skins like Withered Rose and Star Guardian blow this out of the water in terms of features. But for 975 RP you get a complete color identity swap with new VFX on all abilities. That’s more than some 975 skins from the same era offered.
Skip this if you already own Star Guardian or Coven Syndra. Those are objectively more polished. But if you’re climbing through ranked on a budget and you main Syndra, 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The Justicar fantasy is unique in her skin catalog and nobody else really does the golden mage thing for her. Seen maybe 4 of these in my games all season, so you wont run into mirror skin situations either. Rare pick energy.
