Withered Rose Syndra

First game I played with Withered Rose Syndra was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Locked her in mid against a Zed one-trick and honestly the skin just felt right immediately. The dark romantic aesthetic hits different from her other options. Not gonna lie, I wasnt expecting much from another 1350 RP Syndra skin but this one caught me off guard with how polished the VFX turned out.

The visual changes on Withered Rose Syndra

So the whole Withered Rose theme gives Syndra this corrupted gothic beauty look. Her spheres get a dark rose petal treatment with thorny energy swirling around them. The Q orbs specifically have this deep crimson and violet color scheme that reads cleanly against the Rift. Solid change.

Her W pickup and throw keeps the rose petal particles, and you can actually track the projectile better than base in teamfights. Could be wrong here but I think the E stun cone has slightly more visual clarity too. The scatter particles fan out with these wilting petal effects that look clean when you’re peeling for your ADC or catching someone in the backline.

The R is where this skin earns it. Each sphere that slams down during Syndra’s ult carries that dark rose burst effect. In a late-game teamfight where you’re dropping a full 7-sphere ult on their carry, the screen just fills with these gothic explosions. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season and the ult VFX never got old. (Random aside: my duo partner thought I was playing a different champion the first time he saw the ult animation.)

New recall animation fits the theme. Syndra conjures withered roses around her in this elegant but menacing display. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for an Epic tier skin at this price point. Base voice is unchanged from default.

Withered Rose Syndra dropped February 11, 2021. Right in the middle of season 11. West Studio handled the artwork, they captured that dark Valentine’s vibe perfectly without making it too on the nose.

The Withered Rose line is one of Riot’s more interesting thematic experiments. Kinda feels like they wanted a darker counterpart to Crystal Rose, and Syndra fits the corrupted side naturally. Her whole power fantasy is about control and domination so the wilting roses and thorns make sense for the champion.

8 chromas available for this one. Obsidian is my go-to, the near-black color palette makes her look genuinely threatening in lane. Rose Quartz pulls off this soft pink that contrasts hard with the dark base VFX. Sapphire hits a completely different mood, almost icy. Not sure if it’s just me but the Ruby chroma feels redundant since the base skin already leans red. Still in the shop at 1350 RP, permanent availability so no rush to grab it.

How Withered Rose Syndra compares

Syndra has a stacked skin catalog. Star Guardian is the flashy pick. Bewitching has the seasonal appeal. Been running Withered Rose as my main Syndra skin since around patch 11.4 and I keep coming back to it over the others. The darker color palette is easier on the eyes during long ranked sessions, especially compared to the bright purples on base or the blues on Snow Day.

Real talk though. For 1350 RP you’re getting new VFX on every ability, a solid recall, and 8 chromas to pick from. That checks every box I care about for an Epic skin. The Withered Rose line doesn’t get talked about enough in my Diamond games. Seen maybe 5 people running this skin all season which is wild considering how good it looks.

Three things stood out after grinding with it: ult VFX clarity, the recall animation, and how clean Obsidian chroma reads in river fights around dragon. Overpriced? No. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip this if you already own Coven Syndra since they occupy similar dark fantasy territory. But for Syndra mains who want something gothic without going full edgelord – this is the pick. Been maining Syndra with this skin through two seasons of climbing and honestly its the best value option in her lineup right now.
