Withered Rose Skins

Withered Rose is one of those skinlines that flew under the radar for most players and honestly I think thats a shame. The aesthetic is dead roses, gothic romance, thorny elegance. Think masquerade ball meets funeral parlor. Dark purples, blacks, dried petals crumbling off champion models. Riot dropped the first batch in 2021 and came back for seconds in 2022, ending up with four skins total. Small roster but tight. Been running Withered Rose Syndra in my ranked games since season 12 and the vibe just hits different from anything else in the shop. Not every skinline needs 15 champions to make an impression.

What Makes Withered Rose Stand Out on the Rift

Could be wrong here but I think Withered Rose is one of the most underrated visual packages Riot has put together. The shared color palette across all four skins locks in hard: deep violet, black, gold accents, and those signature wilting rose petals woven into every ability VFX. Its not just a color swap situation. Each skin gets custom particle work that makes the decayed floral theme show up in abilities, recalls, and even idle animations.

The splash arts across the line share this moody ballroom energy. Candelabras in the background, cracked marble floors, rose vines creeping up pillars. Whoever art directed this batch understood the assignment. You look at the Crystal Rose skinline that launched alongside it and the contrast is stark. Crystal Rose went bright, clean, wedding-day pretty. Withered Rose said no, we're doing the haunted version. The dark mirror approach.

VFX-wise the dried petal particles are the signature. Syndra's orbs trail withered petals. Talon's blades scatter them on impact. Elise's spider form gets this thorny overlay that reads beautifully in teamfights. The recall animations all share the decaying garden motif but each champion interacts with it differently. Talon slashes through a rose that crumbles. Syndra levitates petals and lets them fall. Clean thematic consistency without feeling copy-pasted.

Not gonna lie, the skinline reminds me of Coven in some ways. That gothic dark fantasy energy. But where Coven goes full witch-coven-in-the-woods horror, Withered Rose keeps it elegant. More refined. Like the difference between a slasher movie and a Victorian ghost story. (Random aside: my duo partner called it "emo prom" and I cant even argue with that.) The color grading on the splashes leans heavy into desaturated tones which gives the whole set a cohesive gallery-wall look if you line them up.

Compared to something like Blood Moon or Death Sworn, Withered Rose carves its own niche. Less supernatural horror, more tragic beauty. The "what if beauty died" angle. Small skinline but the identity is razor sharp.

Best Withered Rose Skins Worth Locking In

Four skins to rank. Tight field. Lets get into it.

Withered Rose Syndra sits at the top for me and its not particularly close. Been spamming this in Diamond since early season 12 and the orb VFX alone justify the 1350 RP. Each dark sphere trails those signature wilting petals and during a full combo in a teamfight the screen fills with this beautiful chaos of purple and black particles. The recall where she assembles a rose from her orbs and watches it decay? Chef's kiss. Kinda feels like Riot designed the entire skinline around Syndra first and then expanded outward.

Withered Rose Elise takes second. Spider form gets the thorny treatment and the human-to-spider transformation has this burst of dead petals that looks incredible during a jungle gank. Played against one around 11 PM on a Tuesday last season and I actually stopped to watch the cocoon animation mid-lane. Almost died for it. The Elise skin has this aristocratic spider-queen energy that fits her kit perfectly. Spiderlings get the rose-vine texture too which is a nice touch for an Epic tier.

Withered Rose Talon is solid. Good, not great. The blade particles scatter petals on his W and R which looks clean in a teamfight, and the parkour animation over walls gets a subtle vine trail. My issue is Talon already has so many good skins competing for the slot. Enduring Sword exists. Prestige Debonair exists. Withered Rose is a strong mid-tier option but when you're climbing in ranked and want to feel powerful, I think some of his other options edge it out. Still worth 1350 RP though.

Withered Rose Zeri came in the 2022 batch and honestly not gonna lie, she fits the theme less naturally than the other three. Zeri's electric gun-slinging energy clashes a bit with the gothic romance vibe. The VFX team did their best to make lightning bolts look like thorny vines and it works in screenshots but in actual gameplay at full speed the read gets muddy. Not a bad skin by any means. Just the weakest thematic fit in the set. Maybe just my experience but every time I see a Withered Rose Zeri in my games the player switches back to default or Ocean Song within a week.

Overall ranking: Syndra, Elise, Talon, Zeri. Fight me in the comments.

Champion Roster and Who Should Join Next

Four champions. Compact crew. Elise and Talon dropped in the 2021 batch, Syndra and Zeri followed in 2022. Havent seen anything new since.

Syndra is the perfect fit. Dark mage, floating, regal, powerful. The withered aesthetic enhances her base fantasy rather than fighting against it. Elise also works naturally. Spider queen in a decaying rose garden? Writes itself. The aristocratic horror angle plays into Elise's entire character identity. Talon makes sense thematically too. Assassin at a masquerade ball, blade hidden behind a bouquet of dead roses. Very Phantom of the Opera energy. (Sidebar: if Riot ever does a Withered Rose event with a cinematic, Talon should be the protagonist. The brooding assassin archetype fits too well.)

Zeri is the odd one out. Electric ADC in a gothic romance skinline. Not the worst stretch Riot has made but you can feel the seams. She was popular when she launched so the business decision made sense even if the thematic one didnt fully land.

Who should get Withered Rose next? Real talk though, LeBlanc is the obvious pick. Deceptive, elegant, already has the Black Rose lore connection. It's right there. Evelynn would kill in this aesthetic. Predatory beauty decaying into something dangerous. Thresh with withered rose lantern particles? Come on. Zyra is almost too on the nose but dead roses growing from her plants would be incredible VFX work. Katarina spinning through a shower of dying petals during her R. The list writes itself.

Four champions is too few for a skinline this visually strong. Hoping Riot revisits it but its been since 2022 with no new additions. Not a great sign.

Tier Breakdown and What You're Paying

Simple breakdown here. All four Withered Rose skins are Epic tier at 1350 RP each. No Legendaries. No budget options. Uniform pricing across the board.

For what you get at 1350 the value is solid. New models, new VFX on all abilities, custom recall animations, and the shared petal particle system that ties the line together. Voice lines stay base across all four which is standard for Epics. No new VO, no special interactions. Fair enough at this price point.

Thing is, this skinline would absolutely benefit from a Legendary. Imagine Withered Rose Syndra at 1820 with new voice lines, maybe a corrupted aristocrat persona, unique interactions with Crystal Rose skins on the enemy team. The 1350 version is already one of her best skins. A Legendary would be S-tier for Syndra mains. Riot left money on the table there.

Total cost to collect all four: 5400 RP. Around $40 depending on your region. Not a crazy investment for a complete skinline collection. Compared to something like Star Guardian where you'd spend over 30k RP to collect everything, Withered Rose is a budget-friendly set to complete. Grabbed all four during a Your Shop rotation back in late 2022, got two of them at 40% off. Worth watching for discounts if you're patient.

No Prestige editions exist for any Withered Rose skin. No Mythic variants either. Straightforward Epic lineup, no FOMO mechanics, no limited availability nonsense. All four sit in the permanent shop. Refreshing honestly.
