Justicar is one of those skinlines that feels like Riot had a bigger plan and then just... moved on. Two skins. Thats it. Justicar Syndra dropped in 2012 and Justicar Aatrox followed in 2013, both at 975 RP, both Standard tier. The whole concept is this divine arbiter aesthetic, golden armor and celestial judgment vibes. Honestly not gonna lie, the execution on both skins lands harder than you'd expect for a line this small. Been playing ranked long enough to remember when these were fresh in the shop, and even now they hold up surprisingly well against newer 975 RP options.

What Sets Justicar Apart on the Rift

The Justicar line pulls from this very specific angelic judge archetype. Think Arclight but before Arclight was really a thing. Gold and white dominate the palette, with divine light effects that give both champions this otherworldly presence in lane. Not sure if it's just me but the color scheme reads cleaner than most golden-themed skins Riot has done since.

Justicar Syndra swaps her default dark purple orbs for bright golden spheres. The contrast against Summoner's Rift is immediate. You see those orbs from across the map during a teamfight, which honestly matters more than people think. Played against a Justicar Syndra last season in Diamond and I could track every single sphere she had out. Clarity cuts both ways.

Justicar Aatrox is the other half of the coin. This was pre-rework Aatrox, so the skin got updated when Aatrox got his full VGU. The golden wings and divine warrior look translated well to the new model. Kinda feels like Riot put extra care into making sure Justicar survived the rework intact. The splash art captures that whole celestial enforcer vibe perfectly.

What ties the two together is restraint. No over-the-top particle explosions, no neon color bleeding everywhere. Just clean golden tones over solid base models. For 975 RP skins from 2012 and 2013, the visual coherence between them is better than some modern skinlines that have twelve entries and still cant decide what they're about.

Compare Justicar to something like Arclight, which eventually took over as Riot's go-to divine aesthetic. Arclight went bigger, louder, more champions. But Justicar has this stripped-back quality that I think aged better. Could be wrong here but the simpler VFX on these two skins feel less dated than Arclight Varus or Arclight Vel'Koz, skins that tried harder and show their age more.

Best Justicar Skins to Lock In

With only two skins in the line, this isnt exactly a deep tier list. But there's still a clear winner and a clear runner-up.

Justicar Syndra takes it. No contest. The golden orbs are the entire identity of this skin and they deliver. Every Q you drop, every W you grab and throw, every ult sphere that flies out - all of it pops in gold against the dark Rift backdrop. Been maining Syndra on and off since season 4, and Justicar stays in my rotation even with skins like Star Guardian and Withered Rose available. For 975 RP this is genuinely one of the best value Syndra skins in the shop.

The splash art alone deserves a mention. (Random aside: I had this as my desktop background for like three months back in season 6.) Syndra floating with golden energy cascading around her, that divine tribunal posture. It reads like a legendary splash on a standard-tier budget.

Might be overthinking it but Syndra as a champion just fits the Justicar concept naturally. She's already about raw power and domination. Slap a divine judge skin on her and it clicks. The dark sovereign becomes the golden arbiter. Thematically it works without forcing anything.

Justicar Aatrox is solid but sits below Syndra for me. The pre-rework version was honestly better thematically because old Aatrox had that fallen angel design baked in already. Post-rework Aatrox is more of a world-ender berserker, which clashes a bit with the calm judicial energy Justicar is going for. Still looks good in game though. The golden wings during his ult are clean, and the sword model with the light effects works in teamfights.

Real talk though, Aatrox has so many strong skins now. Blood Moon, Prestige Blood Moon, Odyssey. Justicar competes in a crowded field. For Syndra mains the math is different because her skin pool, while decent, doesn't have as many standout options at the 975 price point.

If you main either champion and want something that reads as premium without the premium price tag, both Justicar skins punch above their weight class. Hard to complain about 975 RP for what you get here.

The Justicar Champion Roster

Two champions. Syndra and Aatrox. That's the full roster and it's been that way since 2013.

Syndra joined first in September 2012, barely a month after her own champion release. Riot saw the thematic fit early. A power-obsessed mage reframed as a golden divine judge - the contrast between her lore personality and the skin's aesthetic creates this interesting tension. She's not actually righteous. She just looks the part. Been spamming Syndra in ranked for years across multiple seasons and Justicar is one of those skins that makes you feel like your Q poke in lane carries divine authority.

Aatrox came in June 2013. Pre-rework Aatrox was this mysterious Darkin warrior with angelic wings, so Justicar leaned into the angel side hard. After the 2018 rework the skin had to adapt to a completely different champion kit and model. It survived. The golden Darkin look still works on the new Aatrox, even if the gameplay fantasy shifted from sustained drain-tank to burst dive champion.

Who should get a Justicar skin next? Take this with a grain of salt but I think Kayle is the obvious answer. She's already half there with her base design. Divine judge, winged warrior, literal scales of justice in her lore. Kayle would fit Justicar so naturally it almost feels like an oversight that she doesn't have one already. (Sidebar: Riot if you're reading this, Justicar Kayle with golden wings at level 16 would print money.)

Morgana would be another strong pick. The fallen sister angle mirrors what Justicar Aatrox does - taking a darker champion and reframing them in divine gold. Maybe Thresh or Karma too. Champions with clear visual hooks that would translate well into the celestial arbiter space.

Problem is Riot basically replaced Justicar with Arclight and later with the broader Cosmic/Arcana lines. The divine golden niche got filled by other skinlines. Doesnt mean Justicar couldn't come back though. Stranger things have happened. Remember when everyone thought Pool Party was done?

Tier and Price Breakdown

Both Justicar skins sit at Standard tier, 975 RP each. No Legendaries, no Epics, no Mythics. Pure 975 RP territory.

This actually works in the line's favor. At 975 RP you get model changes, texture updates, and minor VFX adjustments without the expectation of new voice lines or recall animations. Both skins deliver on that promise cleanly. Voice lines stay base for both, which is fine. The visual overhaul carries the weight.

No chromas exist for either skin. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity honestly. A dark silver or deep blue Justicar Syndra chroma would go hard. The golden palette is strong but variety never hurts, especially for a line this small. One chroma pack could breathe new life into both skins overnight.

For context on value: 975 RP puts these below the modern Epic standard of 1350 RP but above the bare-minimum 520 RP recolors. You're paying for meaningful visual changes without the full production package. In my Diamond games I see more 975 RP skins than people admit. Not everyone needs the flashiest option. Sometimes clean and affordable wins.

Total investment to own every Justicar skin is 1950 RP. Thats less than a single Legendary. Fair price for completing an entire skinline collection. You could grab both during a sale for under 1500 RP combined. Not bad at all.

Justicar's Place in League History

This line dropped during a specific era of League skin design. 2012 to 2013. Season 2 into season 3. The game was still figuring out what skinlines could be. Most skins were standalone concepts: pirate this, robot that. Shared thematic universes were just starting to form.

Justicar was one of Riot's early attempts at building a mini-universe. Two champions united by a shared divine aesthetic, released about nine months apart. The idea clearly had legs. But Riot went with Arclight instead for the broader divine theme, starting with Arclight Varus in 2014. Then Arclight expanded to Vel'Koz, Vayne, Yorick.

Maybe just my experience but Justicar feels like the prototype that Arclight scaled from. The DNA is there. Golden divine warrior, celestial judgment, clean light-based VFX. Arclight just took it wider and more production-heavy. Whether that was an upgrade depends on your taste. Personally I think Justicar's restraint aged better than Arclight's ambition, at least on the earlier Arclight entries.

In ranked games today, you rarely see either Justicar skin. Last Tuesday I saw a Justicar Syndra in my lobby for the first time in maybe two months. It's not a flex skin. It's not a rare skin. It just quietly exists in the shop for players who want that divine look without dropping 1350 or 1820 RP. There's value in that even if it doesn't generate hype.

The line sitting at two skins since 2013 makes it one of the smallest named skinlines in League. Not the absolute smallest (some have literally one entry) but close. Over a decade with no new additions. At this point Justicar is either permanently retired or waiting for the right moment. Season 14 brought back some old skinline concepts so who knows. Could be coping but I'd love to see Justicar get a third member someday.
