Not gonna lie, first time I saw Loch Ness Cho’Gath loading in I thought someone was trolling. Big green sea monster Cho’Gath waddling down mid lane. Took me a second to realize this skin is actually kind of genius. The whole concept is Cho’Gath as the Loch Ness Monster and it works way better than it has any right to at 520 RP.
What Loch Ness Cho’Gath actually looks like in game
So the model swap turns Cho’Gath into this dark green aquatic creature. Smooth scales, flippers instead of the usual spiky arms, and a head that genuinely looks like something from a grainy Scottish photograph. Clean execution for an old Standard tier skin. The VFX got some love too. His Q rupture has this watery feel to it and the R feast animation reads differently with the sea monster model. Nothing crazy but it ties the theme together.
Voice lines stay base. No new recall animation either. Thats expected at this price point honestly. Been running this in my Diamond games on and off since maybe season 5 or 6, and the model still holds up better than some 975 RP skins from the same era. The silhouette when you stack R and get massive is hilarious. Giant Loch Ness Monster towering over the Rift.
(Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play bot lane when I lock in this skin because he says the model distracts him. Been saying this for three seasons straight.)
The Fables line and release history
Loch Ness Cho’Gath dropped March 1, 2011. Early League days. Part of the Fables skinline, which is one of those older thematic groups Riot doesnt really talk about anymore. Feels like a relic from when the skin team could just pitch “what if this champion was a myth” and ship it in two weeks.
No splash artist credited in the data, which tracks for skins from that era. Riot wasn’t exactly documenting the pipeline back then. The splash itself is moody though. Dark water, glowing eyes, classic monster movie composition. Could be wrong here but I think they updated the splash at some point because it looks cleaner than other 2011 splashes.
Legacy vault skin. You cant just grab it from the shop whenever you want. Hextech only these days or wait for one of those Legacy skin sales Riot runs maybe once a year. Seen maybe 4 of these in my games all season, which honestly adds to the appeal. Last Tuesday I ran into another Loch Ness Cho’Gath main in ARAM and we both spammed the laugh emote for a solid minute.
Should you hunt for Loch Ness Cho’Gath?
Real verdict: 520 RP feels fair for what you get. Model swap with some VFX touches on a champion who scales into a literal kaiju. The Fables theme gives it personality that newer generic skins sometimes lack. If you main Cho’Gath and like the goofy side of League, this is a must-own. Probably his most fun skin from a pure vibes perspective.
Cho’Gath has better skins for tryhard ranked. Battlecast Prime exists. Gentleman exists. But Loch Ness Cho’Gath hits different when you want to tilt the enemy toplaner by being a giant sea monster with six Feast stacks diving their backline in a late-game teamfight. Might be overthinking it but there’s something about the absurdity that makes you play looser and honestly sometimes that confidence wins games. Worth 520 RP if you main Cho’Gath. Just gotta wait for it to rotate out of the vault or get lucky with a chest.
