Cho'Gath

Cho'Gath Skins

11 skins available

Cho'Gath has one of the weirdest skin catalogs in the game. Been maining him on and off since season 3, and the range between his best and worst skins is massive. You get two Legendaries that feel like they're from completely different games, a Mythic that most players will never own, and a handful of budget options that range from "surprisingly solid" to "why does this exist." 11 skins total for a champion thats been around since 2009. Not the biggest roster, but there's quality hiding in here if you know where to look.

How Cho'Gath's Skin Catalog Shaped Up Over the Years

Nightmare Cho'Gath dropped back in 2009. One of the original launch skins. Could be wrong here but I think it was literally available day one of the store opening. The early stuff like Nightmare and Loch Ness are products of their time. Simple recolors, no new particles, no new animations. Standard tier pricing at 520 RP and you get exactly what you'd expect from that era.

Then Riot started actually investing in him. Gentleman Cho'Gath came along and completely changed the conversation. Full voice over rework, new animations, the whole package. Still one of the most iconic Legendaries in the game even now. Battlecast Prime followed later and pushed the mech-kaiju fantasy hard. Two Legendaries on a single champion was rare back then.

The Epic tier filled out more recently. Shan Hai Scrolls Cho'Gath in 2022, Broken Covenant in 2023, Toy Terror in 2024. Riot's been giving him consistent attention the last few years which is nice to see. Four Epics, four Standards, two Legendaries, one Mythic. Solid spread. Not gonna lie, the fact that he got three skins in three consecutive years after a drought feels like someone at Riot finally remembered he exists.

(sidebar: I still remember the Dark Star Cho'Gath charity event back in 2018, that whole campaign was genuinely cool regardless of how you feel about the skin itself)

The year range from 2009 to 2024 means you can literally trace Riot's skin quality evolution through Cho'Gath alone. His catalog is like a timeline of the art department leveling up. Season after season, each new release looks better than the last. Pretty obvious statement but it hits different when you line them all up in the collection tab.

Best Cho'Gath Skins Worth Your RP

Gentleman Cho'Gath. Full stop. This is the skin. 1820 RP Legendary with a complete voice over that turns a void monster into a polite British aristocrat. The contrast is what makes it work. You're ulting someone off the map while talking about fine dining. Been spamming this in Diamond for years and the enemy team still types "lmao" in all chat when they hear the voice lines during a teamfight. The Q animation with the monocle particles, the W with the top hat energy. Every ability feels intentional.

Battlecast Prime is the other Legendary at 1820 RP and it takes the opposite approach. Full mech conversion. Cho'Gath becomes this industrial nightmare with rocket effects on his Q and laser visuals on his W. Honestly I think the skin aged a bit compared to Gentleman. The model still holds up but some of the particle work looks dated next to modern Legendaries. Still a strong pick though. The R execute animation where the chest opens up is peak character design.

Dark Star Cho'Gath sits in Mythic tier. Special pricing, special acquisition. Most players wont ever own this one. The cosmic void aesthetic fits him naturally since he's already a void creature eating everything in sight. Kinda feels like Riot just said "what if Cho'Gath but space" and it worked. The growing mechanic where he gets bigger with R stacks looks incredible with the dark matter effects. Seen maybe five of these in my ranked games all of last season.

Shan Hai Scrolls at 1350 RP is my budget recommendation. Epic tier done right. The ink-brush aesthetic on his abilities reads clean on the Rift. His Q looks like a painted scroll erupting from the ground. W has that watercolor splash. For an Epic, the amount of visual changes they packed in feels generous. Locked this in for about 40 games straight when it released.

Broken Covenant surprised me. Not sure if it's just me but the stained glass visual theme on a giant void monster shouldnt work and yet it does. Another 1350 Epic. The purple and gold color scheme pops hard in lane. His E auto attacks have this crystalline shatter effect thats satisfying to watch while csing. Top five Cho'Gath skin for sure, maybe top three depending on your taste.

Skinlines and Where Cho'Gath Fits

Cho'Gath shows up in a bunch of different skinlines and some fit way better than others. The Battlecast line is probably his most natural home outside of base. Giant mechanical monster eating robots. Makes sense. The whole Battlecast universe with Viktor as the villain works thematically when your champion is literally designed to consume everything.

Dark Star is another strong fit. Real talk though, any void champion looks good in the Dark Star line because the cosmic horror aesthetic already lives in their DNA. Cho'Gath eating stars instead of minions is barely a stretch. The Shan Hai Scrolls line was more unexpected. Chinese mythology meets void creature. On paper it sounds forced but the execution carried it hard.

Prehistoric Hunters is funny because Cho'Gath as a dinosaur is basically just Cho'Gath. He's already a giant lizard thing that eats people. The skin leans into that and I respect it even if the visual changes are minimal. High Society with Gentleman is iconic. Day Job and Fables round out the weird comedy skins. Legacy line covers the old vault stuff like Nightmare.

Broken Covenant was the newest skinline addition before Toy Terror. The gothic church aesthetic gave him a completely different silhouette read. Played against one in bot lane last week and the R animation genuinely startled me because the color palette is so different from what you expect out of a Cho'Gath. Might be overthinking it but I think Cho'Gath works best in skinlines that either amplify his size fantasy or completely subvert his monster identity. The middle ground skins are the forgettable ones.

Budget Picks vs Going All In

Cho'Gath's price range runs from 520 RP Standards all the way up to 1820 RP Legendaries. Big gap. If you're climbing ranked and just want something that looks decent without spending much, Jurassic Cho'Gath or Prehistoric Cho'Gath get the job done. They're Standard tier, minimal changes, but the color swaps are solid enough that you dont feel like you're running default.

The 1350 RP Epics are where the value lives though. Shan Hai Scrolls punches way above its weight class. New particles on every ability, clean model, good recall animation. For 470 RP less than a Legendary you get maybe 80% of the experience. Broken Covenant is in the same boat. Either of those two Epics would be my recommendation for someone who wants one good Cho'Gath skin without committing to Legendary pricing.

But if you main Cho'Gath? Like actually one-trick him? Gentleman is mandatory. 1820 RP well spent for mains. The voice lines alone justify the price. Took this into ranked for an entire split in season 12 and never got tired of it. The comedy factor gives you a mental edge too. Hard to tilt when your champion is discussing the merits of aged cheddar while devouring the enemy jungler during a gank. Battlecast Prime is the serious alternative if the comedy angle isnt your thing. Same price, completely different energy.

(random aside: I once had a Cho'Gath on my team swap from Gentleman to Battlecast mid-lobby because "the enemy team doesn't deserve the funny skin" and honestly that energy stuck with me)

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Cho'Gath have?

11 skins total as of 2024. Four Standard tier, four Epic, two Legendary, and one Mythic. Decent catalog for a champion thats been around since launch. Not the biggest roster but there's no real filler either. Most of them are worth looking at honestly, which is more than you can say for a lot of older champions.

What is the best Cho'Gath skin?

Gentleman Cho'Gath. Not close. The full voice over rework makes him a completely different character. Been running this since season 4 and it still holds up. The comedy factor combined with actual high-quality animations puts it above everything else in his catalog. Battlecast Prime is the runner-up if you want something serious.

What is the cheapest Cho'Gath skin?

Nightmare Cho'Gath at 520 RP. It's a 2009 skin so expectations should be low. Basic recolor, no new particles or animations. Gets the job done if you just want something different from default without spending much. Loch Ness is in the same budget range and honestly looks a bit better.

Does Cho'Gath have a Legendary skin?

Two Legendaries actually. Gentleman Cho'Gath and Battlecast Prime Cho'Gath, both at 1820 RP. Gentleman has the full comedic voice over, Battlecast goes full mech. Completely different vibes. Having two Legendaries on one champion was rare when these dropped and both still see play in my ranked games regularly.

What skinlines is Cho'Gath in?

A bunch. Battlecast, Dark Star, Shan Hai Scrolls, Broken Covenant, Prehistoric Hunters, High Society, Fables, Legacy, and Day Job. Wide variety. The Battlecast and Dark Star lines fit him best thematically. Shan Hai Scrolls was a surprise hit though. Could be wrong but I think he's in more skinlines than most champions his age.

Does Cho'Gath have chromas?

Some of his newer Epic skins have chromas available. Shan Hai Scrolls and Broken Covenant both got chroma sets. The older skins like Gentleman and Battlecast Prime dont have chromas. Standard fare for Riot's chroma policy. Newer Epics get them, older Legendaries usually dont unless they do a special event pass.

When was Cho'Gath's last skin released?

Toy Terror Cho'Gath in 2024. Before that was Broken Covenant in 2023 and Shan Hai Scrolls in 2022. Three years in a row which is solid cadence. Feels like Riot has him on a consistent rotation now. About time honestly, there was a stretch where he went years without anything new.

Is Cho'Gath worth buying skins for?

If you play him regularly then absolutely. Gentleman alone justifies it. He's a champion where skins genuinely change the gameplay experience because his growing R stacks interact with skin visuals in cool ways. Even in games where you're behind, watching a giant fancy gentleman devour people never gets old. Fair warning: once you play Gentleman you cant go back to base.
