Broken Covenant Cho'Gath - Splash, Price & Chromas

First time I saw Broken Covenant Cho’Gath load in, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The whole stained-glass cathedral horror vibe on a giant void monster just wasnt something I expected Riot to pull off this well. Been running this as my main Cho’Gath skin since it dropped in March 2023 and honestly it still holds up. Huge upgrade over most of his older options.

Cho’Gath needed a modern Epic skin badly. Most of his catalog feels dated, and Broken Covenant Cho’Gath finally gives him VFX that match the threat level you feel when a six-stack Cho walks at your backline in a teamfight. The new particles lean into dark reds and shattered glass fragments. Every ability feels heavier.

Q rupture sends jagged cathedral shards out of the ground. Looks clean. W scream gets this deep crimson wave effect that reads well even in chaotic late-game fights where you’re trying to peel for your ADC. Not sure if it’s just me but the E spikes feel more satisfying to proc with the new visual trail they leave behind. Could be placebo but I swear the auto-attack animation feels smoother too.

R is where the skin earns the 1350 RP price tag. The feast animation has this stained-glass explosion on the target, shattered fragments flying outward. Played maybe 40 games with this skin the first two weeks it dropped and the ult never got old. (Random aside: my duo partner literally thought I was playing a different champion the first game I locked in with this skin.) The recall animation ties the whole theme together with Cho’Gath channeling dark covenant energy. Solid work.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin. The base voice still works fine honestly because Cho’Gath’s original lines carry enough menace on their own.

Broken Covenant as a skinline and who made this

The Broken Covenant line dropped March 9, 2023. Late season 13. Riot pushed this line alongside Miss Fortune and Riven versions, plus Nocturne and Rakan. Cho’Gath fits the dark religious aesthetic better than most of the roster honestly. The whole corrupted covenant fantasy reads naturally on a void creature that devours everything.

Huyy Nguyen and West Studio handled the splash art. They cooked. The composition puts Cho’Gath center frame surrounded by shattered stained glass and dark energy, and it reads as genuinely threatening rather than just busy. One of the better splashes in the entire Broken Covenant set.

8 chromas total. Sapphire is my go-to, the deep blue against the dark base model creates this cold cathedral vibe thats honestly cleaner than the default red. Tanzanite pushes into royal purple territory and works well if you want something more dramatic. Pearl goes pale and ghostly, kinda gives off a different skin entirely. Real talk though, most of the chromas are solid picks here because the base model geometry carries the theme regardless of color.

Where Broken Covenant sits in Cho’Gath’s lineup

Cho’Gath has a weird skin catalog. Gentleman is iconic but ancient. Battlecast Prime is a Legendary that shows its age. Dark Star looks great but plays in a completely different fantasy. Broken Covenant Cho’Gath fills the gap between “classic monster” and “over-the-top mech” by giving him a dark fantasy skin that still feels like Cho’Gath.

Kinda feels like this is the skin Riot should have made for him years ago. The gothic horror angle suits a champion whose whole kit revolves around consuming enemies and growing massive. Been spamming this in Diamond ranked for a while now, works great as a top lane pick into melee comps where you just stack Feast and become an unkillable frontline. Last Thursday around midnight I hit a six-stack Cho game where I was literally one-shotting their Kayn out of his ult with R. The Broken Covenant feast animation on that play was chef’s kiss.

In the bot lane specifically I’ve seen support Cho players running this too. The VFX on Q rupture are clear enough that your lane partner can follow up without confusion, which matters more than people think.

Should you buy it?

Straight talk: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, a strong recall, and one of the better splashes in the Broken Covenant catalog. Shop has it permanently so no rush, but if you play Cho’Gath with any regularity this is arguably the best Cho’Gath skin for the price point. Battlecast Prime costs more and looks older. Dark Star is the only real competitor.

Maybe just my experience but I think the skin’s VFX actually help with gameplay clarity on Q. The shattered glass pattern makes the rupture zone slightly easier to read for your team during engage. Could be coping but I’ve had teammates comment on it. Worth 1350 RP if you main Cho’Gath. Skip it if you’re just picking him as a counterpick once a month, but for anyone climbing with the void boy in their ranked pool, this is the one.
