Broken Covenant Xayah

First game I played with Broken Covenant Xayah was around 1 AM on a Wednesday, just grinding Diamond soloq like usual. Locked her in bot lane and immediately noticed the feathers looked different in a way I wasnt expecting. Dark stained-glass aesthetic across every ability. Not sure if it’s just me but Xayah has this problem where half her skins feel samey, and this one actually breaks that pattern. The whole vibe is gothic cathedral meets fallen angel, which sounds like it shouldnt work on an ADC but it does.

What Broken Covenant Xayah actually changes

The feathers are the star here. Every Q throw sends out these deep violet and crimson shards that read like broken church glass scattered across the Rift. Clean contrast against most map textures. W activation gives Xayah this pulsing dark aura, the attack speed steroid feels heavier visually which I think helps with the gameplay fantasy even if it changes nothing mechanically.

E recall is where it gets interesting. Pulling feathers back has this shattered light effect, almost like stained glass reassembling in reverse. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in ranked and the E snap still looks satisfying every time. Root confirmation is clear too, which matters when you’re trying to peel for yourself against a diving Kayn or whatever jungle menace is running at you.

R is solid. Xayah’s ult already has one of the better animations in the game and the Broken Covenant version adds these dark feather trails with that signature purple-red palette. Untargetability feels dramatic. The recall animation ties everything together with the covenant theme, Xayah kneeling before some kind of dark altar. New recall, new VFX across the board. Voice lines stay base, no VO refresh, which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic.

(Random sidebar: the feather trail on auto attacks is genuinely one of the cleanest in her skin catalog and I’m not even a Xayah main saying this.)

The Broken Covenant line and release context

Broken Covenant dropped March 9, 2023. Mid season 13. Marie Magny and West Studio handled the artwork, they captured this fallen devotee energy perfectly in the splash. Xayah’s pose has weight to it.

The Broken Covenant skinline is one of Riot’s more underrated thematic sets. Feels like they wanted dark fantasy without going full edgelord, and the stained glass motif gives it actual visual identity. Riven and Rakan got skins in the same line. Been running this in Diamond games since it dropped and I see the Rakan pairing maybe once every 15 games. Looks incredible together if your duo is on board.

8 chromas total. Tanzanite is my pick, the deep purple leans harder into the dark church aesthetic than base does. Sapphire runs a cold blue that reads clean in teamfights, easy to track your feathers. Pearl exists for people who want the light version but honestly it loses some of the skin’s identity when you go that bright. Rest are fine but those two carry the chroma set.

Is 1350 RP worth it for Broken Covenant Xayah?

Real verdict: this is a top three Xayah skin. Might be overthinking it but I think the reason it works so well is that the dark palette actually improves gameplay clarity on her feathers. Been maining ADC on and off for five seasons and Xayah skins have this recurring issue where feather visibility varies wildly. Broken Covenant fixes that.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, strong recall, cohesive theme. If you already own Star Guardian or Elderwood you still might want this for variety. Different mood entirely. Star Guardian is the flashy pick, Broken Covenant is the one you lock in at 2 AM when you’re trying to climb and want something that looks good without being distracting.

Skip it if you dont play Xayah regularly. But for Xayah mains or anyone who duos with a Rakan player who grabbed the matching skin, its an easy recommend. Permanent shop availability, grab it whenever. Could be wrong here but I think this ages better than most Epic tier skins from season 13. The stained glass VFX have a timeless quality that won’t look dated two years from now. Banger skin.
