Broken Covenant Nocturne

First time I saw Broken Covenant Nocturne load into my game, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The stained glass aesthetic on a champion built around darkness and fear? Weird pitch on paper. Works in practice. Been running this in Diamond for a solid stretch now and the VFX alone sold me within two games.

What Broken Covenant Nocturne actually brings

So the whole Broken Covenant theme turns Nocturne into this corrupted cathedral entity. Think shattered stained glass fused with shadow. His blades get these deep crimson and dark violet tones with jagged translucent edges, and when you Q – Duskbringer – the trail on the ground has this fractured glass particle effect that reads way cleaner than base. Not gonna lie, it makes landing the Q feel more satisfying just because of how the trail looks against the Rift floor.

W is where it gets interesting. The spell shield pops with this burst of red and purple shards. Looks like a church window exploding outward. Small detail but in a teamfight when you dive the backline and proc the shield, the visual feedback is immediate. You know it went off. Compared to base Nocturne where the shield activation can get lost in particle soup, thats a genuine gameplay clarity upgrade disguised as a cosmetic.

E tether keeps the dark covenant energy flowing between you and the target. Subtle change but the color palette shift from base blue to this deep crimson makes it easier to track. R is the big one obviously. Paranoia with Broken Covenant Nocturne darkens the screen with these stained glass fracture patterns creeping in from the edges. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in the bot lane specifically as a jungler and the ult still catches people off guard visually. My ADC duo said the screen effect looked different from base, which tells you Riot put work into the dash trail too.

Recall animation fits the theme. Nocturne kneels before a shattered altar, absorbs the covenant energy. Clean loop, not too long. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly Nocturne’s base voice is already menacing enough.

The Broken Covenant line and release context

Broken Covenant dropped March 9, 2023. Mid season 13. Su Fu and Kudos Productions handled the splash, and they captured this unholy cathedral vibe perfectly. The splash has Nocturne emerging from behind shattered stained glass with that signature red glow. Check Su Fu’s portfolio if you havent, the composition on this piece is strong.

The Broken Covenant skinline includes Riven, Rakan, Xayah, and a few others. Might be overthinking it but Nocturne feels like the most natural fit for the corrupted religious aesthetic. A nightmare entity breaking a sacred covenant? The thematic writes itself. Riven and Xayah look great too but Nocturne wears the concept like it was designed for him specifically.

8 chromas total for Broken Covenant Nocturne. Obsidian is my go-to, strips away the red for this pure dark energy look that feels closer to what a corrupted shadow demon should actually look like. Tanzanite pushes deeper into purple territory and honestly reads cleaner in-game than the base chroma. Pearl exists if you want the light contrast thing but kinda feels like it fights the skin’s whole identity. (Random aside: Obsidian Broken Covenant Nocturne is genuinely my lock-in screen wallpaper right now.)

Is Broken Covenant Nocturne worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, cohesive theme that actually enhances Nocturne’s fantasy instead of fighting it. Could be wrong here but I think this sits comfortably in Nocturne’s top three skins alongside Eternum and Old God.

If you’re a Nocturne one-trick or even just someone who jungles him in comp regularly, this is worth the pickup. Still in the shop, no vault rotation nonsense. The Q trail alone changed how I feel about ganking on this champion – season 13 I think, first week I had the skin, I went on a 9 game win streak just because I was spamming Nocturne to justify the purchase. Correlation isnt causation but the confidence boost from a clean skin is real.

Skip it if you already own Eternum and dont care about the aesthetic shift. But for everyone else maining Nocturne this season, Broken Covenant is the skin if you can only own one from the recent releases. 1350 RP well spent for mains. Simple recommendation – just buy it.
